Traditions distingushes us from other nations so they cant assimilate us as easy. Who doesnt value it? Alot of kids, groups, clicks, or whatever theses days dont. I mean to just know where you are coming from is good enough.
Ok, I've been seeing this alot, are there only concert french horns? Or can there be marching horns also? Or Is it just 1 or the other, do they even allow marching french horns?
It is the same instrument... the bell is held at a slighty higher angle than when sitting... french horns typically play the offbeat or the 2,4 beats as well as countermelodies with the low brass ( tubas and euphoniums ).
Semper Fi is short for Semper Fidelis which is Latin for Always Faithful. Semper Fidelis is also the name of a famous march by John Philip Sousa - and which the Marine Bands frequently play.
It has been years since I last wore the Eagle Globe and Anchor, but the Hymm still sends a chill through my body and causes me to swell with Marine pride...
I was in the Marine Band field 11 years before getting a lateral move to Force Recon and actually knew CWO Jacob when he was a L/Cpl. This brings back a lot of memories for me. And its NOT the "Marine Corps Hymn", its the "Marines Hymn".
OOrah!!!! Thanks for the video, it really does bring back some good memories. Im retired now (since 03') and look back at my Band days as enjoyable ones. Thanks again.
Really? I met the band in 2005 at the Estes Park Tattoo, i was playing with L&B Police at that time. Jacob is a great guy, i met his wive too. Are you with the band Argeniss?
ohhhh....i just got a hard on

Can you explain to us why tradition is so important, and also who doesn't value tradition in your opinion?

I bet that one trombone player in front of the cymbals had a headache after their performance! LOL!
No, seriously; of all the instruments in any Marine band playing the Marine's hymn, my favorite to hear is the trombone.
