So coach Pitino was simply saying, no miracle is going to happen, no stars are going to simply walk in to the locker room and make this team better instantly. He was trying to say that any improvements made were going to be long term building processes, and that the celtics of before were no longer the celtics of today.

He came into town expecting to be God, he forgot that this city has tradition and when you fuck with tradition (telling Red Auerbach to get lost, trading the number 3 pick) you aren't going to be respected.

His coaching style is better suited for a college schedule. You can't play 82 games in the NBA w/the kind of intensity he demands daily.  Only Pat Riley got away w/coaching like that in the 80's but the players now r of a different breed.

He is a GREAT college coach though!

Rick Pitino becoming the president and GM was one of the worst moves in Celtics history. He was too impatient and that may pass in the college level where everyone's gone after 3 or 4 years but not in the pro's.

He gave up on Bruce Bowen, Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace (he wanted him to be a small forward), Ron Mercer and on and on.

The one thing he ever did right was draft Paul Pierce, other than that his Celtics reign was a complete disaster.
