Are you serious Al-Jazeera? Australia has less people in the whole country than in California. Australia contributes less than 1% to carbon emissions.
wormite. study, study and study more. then you might be able to understand how this world works.(gods, one god,emperors,kings,democracy-no democracy,capitalism-communism,new world order, etc. you have allways been controlled and brainwashed.

I mean, if I tell everyone around me that they are brainwashed, and I am the only independent thinker, either I am Albert Einstein, or, I am incredibly arrogant and brainwashed with the idea that I am the only one meaningful.
Oh my. The anti-science tin-hat crowd is out again. Get a fucking grasp, people. The time for us to act more responsibly is long overdue. Even if human driven climate change was not real there is nothing bad about advocating sustainability.
Global warming scheme was thought up by al "the criminal" gore and ken lay(former ceo and founder of ENRON) the data was cooked up by those who will make the most money, WE NEED Carbon Dioxide for plants to live, and any1 that is pushing it should be placed in the darkest prison in the world!
@edarotag84 I am a very conservative person, but I do not think what you said is true at all. The plain hatred towards Al Gore and liberals is distorting your view of reality. Even if you wipe out Al Gore or all the liberals, CO2 will still be one of most important pollutants. The countries that invest in renewable energy will still have a better economy. I suggest you choose truth as Jesus said God is truth, base your opinions on bible instead of on your own.
@wormite Ah.. then you must be Chicken Little "the sky is falling the sky is falling" Basic science says that more CO2 is needed for life on this planet, al gore said the Ice caps were melting, they always melt in the summer, funny thing is, the ice caps on Mars are melting at the same rate as earth's, it is caused by Solar Flares, maybe your schools in your area don't teach basic science.......
@edarotag84 I am a graduate student in environment engineering. Science is science, please do not make science what Al Gore says and hates what it really tells you. Basic Science will tell you that plants on earth only consume certain amount of CO2, CO2 is not "the more the better". Currently this balance has been broken by the industrialization. The main effect of CO2 is not only the rising of the sea level, but extreme weathers. Btw, it's amazing how people hates Al Gore. Crazy politics.
@wormite well you may be a graduate of your local middle school, but if you look at real data, you'll see that sea lvls are not rising, simple thing to do is this, even a moron like you can do, fill a glass with ice, then fill the rest of the glass with water, let the ice melt, and you'll discover that the water lvl actually settles below the rim of the glass, you must have stock or make money from this fraud, like your hero al gore and the scum bag Ken Lay!
@edarotag84 LOL, I am a Chinese, do you think I really care about all your American politics? To me it is no more than a drama show to entertain certain people. I am a graduate student in U.S. pursuing my doctorate degree, I am poor, so unfortunately I do not have any money to buy stock. Who in the world is Ken Lay? I have many conservative friends who are really environmental, and I believe God gave us a garden to manage, and we should manage it well. Don't hate sth just because of Al Gore.
@wormite well any1 dumb enough to live under the thumb of communism is a sheeple, you have no voice, shut up and live under your nanny slave driving government
@edarotag84 Well any1 dumb enough to think that he can discredit a person by accusing the country he is born in, is not only acting as a racist but also contradicting the free spirit of U.S. Btw, I live in U.S. now, I love both this country and China, if you are a real patriot of your country, please stop putting dirt in her face. People on internet are not your garbage bin for your anger trash. Respect others and you shall be respected.
@edarotag84 Your grandmother's saying is right. Please use it wisely, and often check her saying on yourself. I will use it to check on myself too. Remove the log in your eyes before taking out the speck in the eyes of your brethren.
@edarotag84 LOL, so you mean that University of California is not good enough and needs UN's help, well, you do have some high bars, don't you? I am starting to think you may have multiple PhD's, lol. Hopefully they are real ones instead of Permanent Head Damages. :)
@edarotag84 See levels are rising. They have gone up about 10 cms already. Mostly from warming, but also some from melting glaciers on land. Oh and in your description of the experiment, that only holds true if you hold the ice down. If the ice is allowed to float, the level remains the same. But the no one is claiming that's where the rise comes from.
@Maxdwolf You are either a complete idiot if you really believe that (after the global warming scam was exposed as fraud ) or you are part of the criminals at the top that are going to collect taxes from polluters while doing nothing, as was planned by the original scammers in the beginning!
@edarotag84 Ah, you're one of those NWO nutters aren't you? Yeah, disparate scientists from multiple specialties have been conspiring for decades on this. *rolls eyes* There has never been any evidence of fraud. There were some e-mails that were misinterpreted by morons as being indicative of fraud. Glaciologists have long documented the decline.
@andie2244 yup, but that data has already been exposed as fraud dude, infowars.com wake up, pull back the curtain and expose the man behind it, wake and get out of the matrix
@edarotag84 oh, now i understand, you're in the granola State, "Fruits, Flakes and Nuts" no wonder you are so very confused, lol, yup you need a real education, instead of the pastel color type of vagueness that that state offers, where everyone wins a trophy in sports, because unlike the real world there are no losers .......
People should think about helping my country to overcome the pollution issue, which is China, we are not only the biggest polluter, by projection by 2020 whatever you do in the developed country would be only less than 10% compared to the pollution emitted in China. Lots of work need to be done here.
@TheCatsLastWord Yes, in China the biggest environmental risk is actually not carbon emission, but all the industry pollutions. We are killing our country's natural environment. We need help, both technology innovation and economic innovation to change the situation. We need people from all over the world to help.
@wormite It will need the first world to lead the way in order to convince less well developed countries, especially autoritarian ones like China, because they want their economies to grow even more than use in order to catch up with us.
@playgrrrr actually, it is countries like China who seem to be leading the way in sustainable energies. Australia should be a leader in solar technology, but the government does little to promote or subsidise this type of innovation. Many Australian scientists have been lost to China to greater availability of funds and grants and less red tape.
@Kable645 You just told the truth, New south wales University used to be the best innovator in solar pv, but nowadays you hear less about them. The owner of the biggest solar pv production company in the world is a Chinese who graduated there. We should promote more tech cooperation between China and Australia too. Aus(and U.S.) as innovation country should be properly rewarded and its government should fight for its renewable industry and research.
@playgrrrr I do not think Chinese government looks at the "first world" for leading as it used to be. You should consider that China is right now the 90% market and production of solar thermal, 80% of the production of the solar PV, biggest investor of the renewable technology, biggest producer of wind turbines. It is a more economic driven country than ideology driven country. You have to directly work on China's economy and tech instead of trying to show-case to it.
@wormite While I agree with the possible reality of those numbers they aren't providing proportion. China is one of the largest and highest populated countries, too. They have some vision, but how much of it is genuine & how much only prestige? Think of their rail system for example, or the fact that they massively invest in coal power.
We could move them to do more, but we are too obsessed with money as an end (instead of utility), too.
@playgrrrr I hope you will find money, market and politics getting more and more encouraging in your life. They can all be used to promote good causes. The number I showed didn't mean China has done enough, but it really means China has not done enough and the other countries are in the same boat, we need to use every tool, including economics to work it out. The fact coal is still invested as you said means that economics in China has to be changed to wipe coal's profit out. Maybe you can help.
@wormite =I hope you will find money, market and politics getting more and more encouraging in your life. They can all be used to promote good causes.= And almost never are.
@wormite =Well, it's good to keep up the good hope. :)= I like purposefulness. Hope - not so much. It's better to work so that hope is not needed.
I like the way you are trying to change my outlook into a more positive one though. It's kind of cute/funny. I hope I can say that without it sounding offensive.
@budapest509 I think the most brainwashed way of saying something is to be utterly closed/self-righteous about an issue and calling those opposing him brainwashed.
"Science" is superstition. Science (without quotes) is different. Carbon dioxide is not pollution. Polution is a very serious problem however. Dangerous pollutants are being ignored by the cardon tax profiteers.
"Science" is superstition. Science (without quotes) is different. CArbon dioxide is not pollution. Polution is a very serious problem however. Dangerous pollutants are being ignored by the cardon tax profiteers.
@pkpapers If you believe in Science then you can not deny the heavy impact of the effect of carbon emission. The CO2 emitted now can stay in the atmosphere for thousands of years. One way or the other, (tax or whatever) you have to deal with it. I would say let's have less argument about how to do it but act first, because it is so urgent.
There are built-in constraints to all kinds of ecological reform instituted by industrialized nations. History will repeat itself so long as destructive corporations register profits, albeit less within the framework of market based environmental mechanisms.
Sustainable reform can only happen if you have an environmental dictator who is impervious to political/corporate patronage. Other changes don't go far enough, and will result in a rubicon. You can buy say a few years, but that's it.
@baltao08 What you said is pretty pessimistic. I have two questions: 1. Does that mean that free market/democracy has no hope to adapt to urgent environmental issues. 2. If 1. is true, then should we say that democracy has its own flaws and should be subject to change?
@wormite The thing about liberal democracy is that it tends to be a dictatorship with many faces. Is public policy really based on the common good or has it been co-opted by business interests? Corporate structures are inherently authoritarian because they are fictional persons who see exploitation as a business move, and are willing to pay a fine if brazenly defying a law is in their interest. It's always a matter of cost benefit where pollution and environmental degradation are externalities.
@wormite Another thing to reflect on is how the corporation has penetrated and made less porous the boundaries of the nation-state in the age of globalization. This allows companies to export their brand of exploitation to weak states, whose jurisdictions are in their best interest. "Democratic" nations are only a facade in reality because they have several industries that do the dirty work and dump their waste in other countries
@baltao08 You are obviously a smart person, I like you alot, and please be careful of not losing your humility, and help me to be humble too. We are not so savvy anyway. That said, we see in recent years that democracy is having its holes too. I agree with you on the things you said. How can we change our own lives to help the world? I started to pursue my PhD in environment eng because of my interest in solar energy. Maybe you can help by starting to make a change by becoming a politician?
