Under common law jurisdiction (law of the land) there must be harm, loss and/or an infringement of rights to denote a crime has occured. There is a difference between unlawful and illegal. Illegal actions are otherwise lawful activities (like being in posession of an organic plant material) which has been purported to be against the law through the use of legalese (the language of perpetration).

When was the last time you seen two stoned guys get in a fight, or someone that got too high and went home and attacked his family. It barely ever happens, if it happens at all. In areas where pot is legalized (It wont hit North America all at once, but it'll spread), crime will drop DRAMATICALLY, general health will improve, as will productivity. :)

If a cop finds some guy smoking crack on the corner then the crack and the pipe should be taken away and the poor sob should be sent to rehab, I think. I agree with being Portugal a good model! Theirs being much more liberal (in the purest sense of the word) than of the Netherlands. But unfortunately no one talks about it. Holland has become the role model only because they sell it in stores, so everybody thinks that's the only way. We were hanging out with a local and my friend lit up a J in the Burger King and the local almost had a heart-attack.
