  • best irish song based on a true letter bundle thought that was cool and hope to vist killkelly ireland soon i hope i can vist the chuch a put flowers down for the graves :(

  • Saw Mick, O'Connell, & Keane do this at Berea College circa 1995, and it changed my life. My daughter was 2 at the time and I learned all the lyrics so I could sing it to her. She's 17 now and still has a soft spot in her heart for me singing this song. Thanks for making it available on YouTube.

  • Ur photos are so random all these seascapes and images from Clare ... would have been nice if you'd looked for some relevant pics for ur video

  • @ antbug --- Suck it up bud !! Yours and mine ancestors did us a GREAT service immigrating. You have been brainwashed by the media which has sickeningly become so liberal I want to vomit !!! I don't listen to their BS,I got smart years ago when Clinton became pres. I now vote my conscience, conservative. we need to change the US one vote at a time. DON'T GIVE UP ON US !!!

  • Check Robbie Oconnell's cds...it is on several of his

  • God bless Ireland , :) my how this makes me miss home,

  • A truly beautiful, and haunting, song.

  • @CredoCatholicJournal iwill be there on christmas for the first time..cant wait..thanx for the invite!!

  • I'm french (16 years old) and I studied this song at School, It's really magic and beautiful, but really sad !

I can't stop listening this song again and again, Peter Jones has made great (but really sad) lyrics.

Thanks for this beautiful song !

  • @heinzlegermain its not his lyrics. He excerpted pieces from letters of a father writing to his son, John, who had moved to America.

  • Thanks, I know that these are not "his" lyrics because he read old letters. But I think he has changed a lot of words in order to create a nice song. That's normal.

    Thanks for your answer

  • Beautiful song and pictures...great !

  • nice job!!!!

  • to s4lis: me too!

this is a very great song! but i am so sad, when i hear this... :-(

  • I miss Roscommon so much, Castlecoote especially. When our tribe emigrated in 1949 to Liverpool, we don't know where they came from but Roscommon has such a strong pull for me........songs like this don't help....

  • we had this song in our english lesson=)

  • Love the song - heard it first more than 15 yrs ago as I drove to work - sat in the parking lot to fix my face - the father was like my grandfather, only some many years earlier. From the same part of Ireland and used the same words ....

    Thanks.

    Mary Redmond

  • This is one of the saddest songs that I've ever heard but very beautiful at the same time, I found it on a compilation Album called Bringing it All Back Home Vol 1, which I found in a Hardware store in Mt Vernon Ohio a few years ago, sung by this Artiste, An excellent song on an excellent Album

  • aye, Sad...yet to borrow a line from the devils own...." dont look for a happy ending Tom. It"s not an American story...It"s an Irish one" My mothers people were/are Dillons from west Meath, came over after the Famine. God bless them all.

  • I'm an American (of Irish heritage on my mother's side) and discovered this song listening to a college radio station in New York City. This has to been one of the saddest songs I've heard since "Fruit Tree" by Nick Drake. I was really moved by this song - beautiful and sad.

  • for two years my english teacher showed me this song. at this time I heard the song the first time I'd cry. Now after two years I hear this song again. And I have to cry again.

So a sad song :(~ Love it! It really touches me.

  • great voice

  • Song gets me everytime. amkes me bawl bloody murder!

  • The singer is not Mick Moloney, its Robbie O'Connell. Mick Moloney and Jimmy Keane accompany him.

This version is from the Bringing All Back Home documentary series - you can see O'Connell singing it.

  • I was gonna say that lol you took care of it for me, thanks lol

  • Nice little bit of family loyalty there, John. Good for you!

  • haha

  • Good job John, ill take u at ur word and ive fixed it

  • Good Man TheKKIsBack!

  • im from greece. just studied/been in edinburgh for a year.. anyways, this song is touching :/

  • I have it, but i need to know why it makes the 9 mb song to a 76 kb song!? :S

  • Couldnt tell ya mate...maybe the 76kb is just the project ur working on, make sure u actually create the video, it should end up being 30-50mb or something, the project is just a save file with information about what ur doing in the program if ya get me...saving that is no good, on the left side under "Finish Movie" there's an option -> Save to my Computer, make sure u click that and it takes a few mins to create it

  • I have another version with Mick Moloney too? :P

Please, help me to put it on youtube!!!

What program do you use? Windows Movie Maker?

  • Ya windows movie maker bud, u can download it for free if u dont have it alrdy.

  • there is a cd of the tv series bringing it all back home

  • Grrrh... I wanted to upload this video for 7 months ago, but it told be the file was too small! :S it was a 9 mb song, but it told me it was 76 kb? :S

  • i wish this was on cd somewhere..

    mike

  • Bringing it all back home...get it off amazon if u can, has a heap of really good songs -> Rose Connelly by the Everly brothers is a classic
