  • great vid. I'm a 4th year helper from chicago local #2. Ive never seen anything old yet. I'm new construction, can't wait to work on the old stuff.

  • YEAH....Ur right there, I guess...I restore antique radios & TV's and everytime I go to a convention, they are all OOOOOOld dudes...they look @ me like a "young punk" & I'm 42! :) LOL! So, I guess, ur right...you gotta do wut u gotta do 2 make it so people can work on it! Looks good, Man! Sorry bout' the negativity! Looks like that would be a FUN job! ;)

  • OK..type "102-year old elevator" in the search pane above & see a STILL WORKING elevator that has not been defaced by digital junk!

  • @seatboi TK's and KONE's controllers are less likely to break! OTIS and Schindler are the ones that are likely to break.

I just can't believe OTIS went from the best to the junkiest in only a short time, 1979-1980 (1989-1990 for Lexan fixtures discontinued in 1990)

  • Top Video. I,ve seen hoist motors like this on a site in Sydney that was built in 1932. Otis made these BIG gearless machines for a longtime. They,re good.... very good and last ages. Looking at this video a job well done with hoist motor field coils, commutators, re roping and the new controllers. I used to work for TKE Australia and the high rise product used was SWIFT futura. These controllers TAC 50 do they use Magnetec Drives in them the same as SWift Futura.

  • Some modernizations we do use the magnetec dsd 412. These particular drives were TKE Quantum Quiet w/ re-gen, rated at 120 hp. We were using the quantum quiet with ac motors also, but recently switched to Accord Drive made by TKE in Brazil

  • Hey Man Thanks for the feedback on the Convertor Drive Units. I actually had a GooGle L@@k at The Oak Tower in Kansas City and gotta say that it is a good L@@king older style of High rise building. For the modernization job that You and all The BoyZ have done it is an impressive example of job well done. You BoyZ must be proud of it. Thumbs Up Job and Well Done BoyZ.

  • Everything is quiet in the building tonight!

Really cool video! Great to see those old machines.

  • Very, very nice equipment!!!!!!!

  • Cool! Do you work for ThyssenKrupp?

  • Yes, I have worked for TKE for almost 2 years now, I have been in the elevator industry for 12 years. What city are you in?

  • In my opinion, TKE is my favorite. There's nothing better than the cool looking Signa4!

  • @elevatorsonly Yeah, till a lightning bolt FRIES all that digital CRAP...the old stuff woulda taken it...or at least just blown a lil relay or something, but all in the name of "progres"...bet THESE won't last as long as those Otis drive units do!

  • @seatboi Anything will run forever if it is properly maintained - for example, there are still plenty of DC-3 aircraft flying and steam locomotives running. However, they are very expensive to maintain, are not very efficient and the number of people still alive that can make them operate properly is rapidly declining.

In Kansas City, MO, there is really only one guy left who can make this equipment work, unless he retired. Keeping the OTIS running in KC simply can't be done.
