  • You make the eys look so easy to draw.

  • what kind of plan? can you sugest a plan?

  • In elementry and middle school people praised me non-stop. But then i got into high school and shit got serious

  • great advice ;)

  • Excellent. Keep up the good work!!!

  • I feel the same, in elementary people said I was good but I didn't think so and know I'm in middle school and people say I'm good , I wonder if in high school it'll be like yours... Ima draw 10 hours a day now

  • @gevoian when i drew in elementary school, ppl say "thats rlly good!" and stuff and now when i look back i wonder "why did they let me do that?!" lol its a funny thing, growing up and learning from mistakes and old crappy drawings :)

  • does tht look like you? no pun intended

  • love your vids :D

  • u sounded way more confident towards the end why are you so nervous about talking you should talk more

  • Lol your mess at the beginning even looks nice. Thanks for all your videos.

  • What you say works for both digital and traditional art that's why I'm subscribing :-)

  • quit the intro... plz;)

  • practice does not make perfect, nor does perfect practice make perfect

    practice makes pudding!

  • this is exactly how I feel when I look at artwork that's out there.. I'm just goign to keep plugging away :D

  • What were you brush settings for this sketch?

  • Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.

  • lol being oriental does not make you talented.. but it helps i guess xD

  • @IdentityHero no disney isnt good enough for him

  • Oh my gosh! I am in 9th grade, and in elementary school everyone told me I was good and such, and when I got accepted into this fancy art school I also thought I was good. But I get there, and everyone but ten of the visual artists are Asian. All of these kids had been to art school there whole lives, and here I was just beginning. They, at the age of 15, all drew like it was a photograph. I felt so bad about it. Thank you so much for this video.

  • Perfect practice makes perfect

  • I'm about to apply to a Computer Arts course which includes a lot of animation and drawing. You are amazing and you inspire me. Keep up the good work!

  • DUDE! You totally sound like you grew up in the West Van district! Cause you said you go from elementary to high school and you live in Vancouver! Yay I feel so connected to you! And yes - I used to be the best artist in my elementary school, then came high school and so many Asians... But I still think I'm 1 of the best in my grade. Vain much? Anway, thank you for such good advice!

  • I'd LOVE for you to make videos about animation ^^

I actually thought about studying animation.. but it didn't pan out.

I'd also like to know which school you're going to, and how it is :D it would be wonderful to find out, because it might help me decide to go do animation later on too.

  • @TarenjaDA I don't think some people understand the vastness of the internet. lol It's easy to just download a PDF or DVD about 2d animation or 3d animation. I know I downloaded a bunch of animation books, but the best I found was The Animator's Survival Kit. It also has 16 dvds by the author. I downloaded these with torrent sites like Demonoid*com, Isohunt*com, and ThePirateBay*org.

  • I definitely prefer the tutorials you talk in. Keep making them!

  • I'd love to learn about animation!!

These tips help sooo much, Sycra, keep up the good work and thanks for always being my inspiration.

Also, if you have any time, could you please make a video of how to color?

  • SYCRA please make some videos of shading. Make video's of how to draw people from the side and how to shade.

SHADING is the biggest challenge for beginners. please doo.

    vote if your a beginner.

  • i draw like a first grader.i really suck at that.anyone know what would help me?

  • @231johnjohnson

practice makes improvement. doodle doodle doodle doodle aalllllll the time.

  • @Kanadah you sound like f-ing flanders.diddly

  • You may've mentioned earlier....but, is this a Wacom Tablet with your program? I use a Wacom with "Canvas". But, as you know it works equally as well with PhotoShop or Corel...or.....??? At any rate, what settings do you use....as in "pressure, changeable opacity, pencil width, etc. "

Btw, I am with you, I grew up with many from "Asian ethnicity"....and I agree, you are not necessarily more gifted at Math or Art. However, I really think y'all are very talented at driving. ;P

  • What program are you using?

  • i love ur advise

  • excellent commentary and drawings (:

  • you sound asian. thats cool:) btw I havent checked out your videos in like 2 years because you never uploaded anything! but welcome back.

  • Your voice was perfectly fine and you did very well.. Now if we could get rid of the buzzing/humming sound, it would all be perfect.. but please keep up the good work and the tips coming, I really enjoyed it!

  • Nice!No dislikes!

  • Keep talking :) You are doing great! And your advise is good!!

    *bow*

    thanks!

  • Great Advices Sycra,, i got improved in drawing in your videos, plz check my work on Deviant Art

    also..

i suggest that you download the Great Ideas in Psychology - Audio Podcast it's available free on iTunes. It explains how human learning things and stuff.

  • Your so amazing~! Drawing is one thing but doing it on a computer with a mouse sketch pad is another! Love it!!

  • 12-16 hours? :o ...that's my asian-moment for today :D

great vid and keep up the talking

  • you're so cool!

  • keep going with these commentaries. Your getting better already :)

  • Thank you for adding the commentary. I have found your videos some of the most helpful on Youtube, but the voice explanation really makes it more clear. Good luck at school!

  • You've got fun work, but long "boring" work ahead of you. You'll see what I mean.

Hope animation school works out for you. Thanks for the upload, its great to hear your voice.

    Keep them videos coming.

  • Its really great to here you in this vid, no need to be nervous!, having someone talk makes it so much better :)

  • you inspired me to open up my journal again and draw

  • Rock on. Really awesome channel.

  • nice you talk, it-s great to hear your voice and not just to sit and guess it is really a person who-s doing those amazing drawings

  • Genuis video, I love your laughing n stuff :P

  • Haha, I totally relate to that thing about moving up to a new school and suddenly seeing everyone else draw amazingly :P I was the best drawer in my school until I moved up to secondary and was thrown into a few hundred kids ^^; Ironically I became best friends with the best ^_^ Not Asian, but ah well :P I still draw though. An AWFUL lot :D I doodle in my notebook at college and have improved loads in a year :)

  • I love your voice

  • is it VFS you're attending? anyway, animation school that sounds wall-to-wall interesting :)

i remember a video about character creation, and the artist was saying he was trying to imagine the life of the character and his qualities and defects, is it something you tend to do?

  • You will find far more intelligence in the people who support you than the Youtube trolls. So don't get nervous we got your back.

  • Once you start out animation school, you should post a video on the best way to draw a character from multiple angles (front view, side view, etc) and still maintain their likeness. I've heard of people using molding clay to sculpt a bust first, but I wanted to know what other techniques there are. I'm sure 3D programs can do this automatically, but I'm more interested for projects like illustrating a graphic novel where you draw the same person differently every slide.

  • please make videos about animation and the blog thing! i love drawing but i'm starting animation school aswell next week so im more than interested :)

  • This 25 minutes of advice will really help a lot of people stuck in their homes and trying to learn how to draw by themselves xD Thank you very much and a vlog would be awesome! Btw I'm shocked to hear pro's draw that much -.- makes me feel bad lol

  • "Work hard on your skills and never give up! Anyone can draw!" -Goro Fujita

    That's the truth ;)

  • I'm glad you appreciate the comments.

And you certainly have no cause to be nervous.

I can already draw as well as anyone you care to name, but even I often learn something from watching your videos

(note to fellow artists, NEVER stop searching for ways to hone your skills, even if you're eighty).

  • .... your guest find it acceptable whatever you do today, because you are the important one. Often if they did mess up their speach, the guests found it even more endearing. Sycra, on this channel, you are the important one and you are helping others, so whatever you do and however you do it, is most acceptable because it will be just right. So please don't worry about not speaking ok, you're doing a great job!! ..... now all I need to do, is tell myself the same thing hahahaha .... best, joe

  • this is great you started talking, it takes that confidence I wouldn't have. I can organise a group of 300 people and photograph it yet I can't talk on a video lol. I think it's because I through a switch stepping into photographer mode and I then have the confidence to talk to them with authority. I photographed weddings for 30 years and here's another thing .... often the groom was really nervous about making his speach. But I told him, it's ok today because you are the groom ......

  • i always thought this was a girl for some reason

  • Yaaaaa!!! for learning animation.

  • congrats on the animation school

  • I would call that little voice your Artistic Conscience.

  • I think a vlog would be awesome!

  • Congratulations on your Animation school!! I think that's fantatic and would love to see some videos on animation or vlog on how it's going!! Best of luck to you!

  • Would you say that having the knowledge of the bodies muscles and skeletal structure helped you drawings improve? And i don't think you should feel nervous anymore because i see a lot of positive feedback, so good job.

  • Lol I think asians are better at everything lol! Your work is amazing bro thanks for the vids

  • i love listening to your stories, i hope you keep making similar videos.

i hear some friction, do you have a piece of paper between the tablet and pen?

  • i love listening to your stories, i hope you keep making similar videos.

  • I'd really like to see some animation techniques. It sounds to hard for me to try, but maybe when you post some techniques I could see how hard it actually is. I still have to learn how to draw people first. :)

  • you shouldn't feel nervous you're amazing

  • You should write a list of things to talk about to help you remember what you're saying.

  • Animation for the win :). Hope it goes well

  • sycra, man i love you ur sooo cool

  • Your advice is so helpful! Im in a related position, my peers and art teacher tell me I'm good, but I know I'm not that good, It's so satisfying to know how to over come that and progress. I would love if you made some vlogs about animation school too, as that is what I'm ultimately aiming for, and I'd love to know what I need to learn in advance. Love the videos, thanks for all the help :)

  • ALL of your videos are awesome but these really help! thx ☺☻☺☻

  • You have a cute laugh. LOL.

Anyways. Thanks for the video! This made me want to draw SOOO Badly.

As for the Animation... if you figure out how to do something like what Guild Wars 2/ Aion online has... then PLEASE!!! :D

    ~Aru

  • I've been subbed to you for a long time, and I've always thought your video's could do with some voice over, I'm so glad your talking now, the man has skills!

  • CRAP, I MISSED THE LIKE BUTTON!!!?!?

    well this is bad

  • We love you, Sycra. You're an awesome artist. 5*****

  • Nice video! you're helping so many artists with your wise words! I would btw love vlogs about the animation thing. Keep up the good work!

  • MORE TALKING

  • haha i hate how ur 10 second eyes are better then my 30 minute eyes :D good job

  • thankyou for being such an honest artist. your advice is very helpful and I can relate to it. it is lovely that you are becoming more confident :) please keep talking in your videos!

  • Oh and you'll definitely get better, I'm here for ya!

  • I hear you... Talking in my videos also makes me nervous, so I know how you feel lol! That's why I don't talk in my videos, I just lip sync and dance, haha!

  • Animation videos would be amazing, as it is one of the fields I'm seriously considering for my career. I'm going to be a HS senior and am also really looking to crack down on my hours (aka stop being so lazy) and really improve this year, so your tips/vids will surely be very useful to me in the near future. (: It's really quite inspiring to have somebody who has been through what I'm going through now; thanks loads for the advice as well.

  • animation would be awesome! and you sound a lot more confident!

  • AND A VLOG ABOUT ANIMATION SCHOOL LOL

  • YESSSSSS Videos about animation PLEASE

  • I'm loving these vids. I think some animation tutorials on how you animate stuff would be real cool.

  • When I was younger I used to do about 5 hours a day. Now I'm varies to 18 hours to none at all. And I've found that the key to improving is often realisation. Thats way your videos are so useful, because they can help you realise what you maybe have been doing wrong.

I've always done comics- so I can draw the face, shoulders and chest really well. But legs and are are rubbish. How you draw your poses taught me a competely different techique of drawing legs that helped sooo much.

  • I wish I could talk and draw :P I cant use both sides of my brain at the same time.

  • man bro i gotta work on my art u a beast...i need to work on it u stopped for a summer i stopped for like 3 years

  • 23:01 Could be a Dinasaur too :)

Mannn, ur voice is so good, (reminds me of Trunks 'from DB' Brazilian version xD)

And i cannot believe i hdnt subed yet, was one of the first channels i seen here on youtube :)

Really good work man, it really helped me a lot ^^

  • I appreciate the candid discussion, it makes a huge difference in watching you draw, I just wanted to say thanks and I look forward to every new video :)

  • Your advice was complete bullshit. I'm half Asian and everybody who's always known me have always said that I get my drawing "skills" from being Asian. People need to stop being so fucking insecure about themselves enough to stop with the racial crap going around. It's one thing to not be such a good artist. It's another thing to be easily influenced to find something retarded against a type of person to make yourself feel better. Christ. I thought you were actually smarter than that.

  • @FUSSYBABY No, what he's saying is he didn't want to be a person who excluded Asians when he was comparing his artwork to others peoples. And artists will always be insecure about their art- otherwise they wouldn't try to improve. Not trying to improve makes you a failaure as an artist. It doesn't matter if you do or not, its about trying. I think the whole "Asian's are better than everyone else" probably isnt to do with gentics but attitude. Manga has put artists higher up in people's mind sets

  • damm 12-16hr?!??!?!?! wthhhh...

  • I'd LOVE to learn about animation! that'd be awesome!

where are you going for school?

  • i think i'm going to try that sketchbook idea :)

thank you so much for posting these videos

    thank you :D

  • Skyra, you have to do everything.

You're so good and interesting.. just do everything D:

Also, do a vlog about animation school.

    Do it ^o^/

  • Not to be buzzkill, but I think people are pretty unfair when it comes to judging how impressive something is from race to race. Being Asian I play piano and draw a lot as well, and some of my friends think I'm pretty decent and they say things like "damn, asians can do anything!" which I don't mind since I have a sense of humour and they mean good, but it strikes me as a bit unfair that because I'm Asian, people think I have the innate ability as opposed to have practised hard for it like Syc.

  • I'd love to see animation videos. It'd be very helpful and entertaining. Please do! :)

  • I wish you made this 2 years ago. 2 years ago i was that type of guy you said. any way yea Make all those types of new videos you said at the end.any way thanks for the tip. I think i will be walking away just a tad bit batter of a artist then i was 25:26 min ago. Great in vise.

  • thanks so much for your vids, I always watch them, and then instantly become inspired to go do my own work. Some of my finest works were made right after I watched one of your videos. I even listen to the Juana Molina song you put on the drawing hands video. It helps me come up with something everytime.

  • I love it when you sound dumb sometimes and laugh at yourself =] it's comforting to know that you're human and it's funny =] you're amazing and keep up the amazing work!!

  • You're a genius man. Best Advice I've heard in awhile.

  • animation on... Flash? autodesk Maya? I'm interested more on the first but any other animation will help :)

  • YAY! i love hearing your voice. so much nicer than reading so much. :]

i always thought you were a girl.. for some reason i default online artists to women.

  • @thegreatbelowx

I do that sometimes, but it really depends.

I thought Sycra was a girl because Sycra sounds more feminine as a name, in my opinion. Sycra's pretty far from a girl though.

  • Buzzing sound on the mic fyi.

  • nice stuff, i'm thinking of opening up an art channel, featureing my works.

  • haha, i've been doing the "draw every day" thing consecutively for the past year. Even if I have to cheat myself and draw a stick figure, I make sure to do so. But for the past two months, I've actually been really dedicating myself, drawing portraitures and more technical and gestural stuff.

  • OH my god i love these talking vids ahahah your stories are aweeesome omg!!

    MAKE mooooRE :O

  • i like the skull :)

  • good gorb

  • hey, i have a pen tablet also, what are you using to record the videos?

  • @Menokokoro Most likely Fraps

  • Good advice dude. I've gotta say, hearing you talk about how to improve teaches me more than just watching a drawing video of yours that has just music.

  • Keep talking, it's very cool you're talking now, before you looked like a machine xD Now people can get that feeling that you're really a person and connect with your artwork better.

  • cool vid man thanks for the upload

  • Wow you sound just like me right now. I should really work harder :(

  • I think it's great you've finally talked man!

  • You are to me, as the Taiwanese were to you. But you are inspiring me to keep drawing

  • @Sycra I am a good artist myself and I started drawing young too... I got really into drawing when I discovered girls liked drawings of winnie the poo and shit like that ^_^
