Our BT, Fonzie, is about 8 mos. old. I say 'about' because we don't know when his birthday is. We rescued him from some horrible breeders who had no idea what they were doing. He came to us sick, completely unsocialized & didn't even know what grass was, at 6 mos. old. Now, he's completely social with everyone... A real sweetheart, spoiled rotten, and hops like a bunny when he gets excited! Lol
I had never considered this breed of dog before, but I'm so glad he's part of our family now. H
@bobbychops1 - Yes, this is really his first night home. The breeder had socialized him very well. Also, we visited him at the breeder's house a couple of times and played with him before bringing him home, so I think that helped. He was always playful from the beginning and never did seem nervous or anxious.
our Marley is almost 5 (aug) and we are looking now for another.. we are so in love with this breed... we call Marley our K 9 kid... he's the best 350. we ever spent.. we got an awesome deal too, don't think that will happen again!
awwwwwwwwwwww , I am getting my very first Boston Terrier puppy on June 21 2011 at around 12pm ! I cannot wait ! He was born on April 19 2011 so he will be 2 months and 2 days when I will finally get him. :)
@tkdartistmom I am actually going to get him on June 21st instead ! I am sooo happy ! I can't wait to be able to show him off and to play with him etc.... LOL !!!!
I was wondering when someone would ask. It was just a joke with my husband b/c my dad thinks it's silly for people to call themselves mommy & daddy with their pets. We, on the other hand, think it's quite normal, LOL.
@Pbxgrl2583 lol!! ok! we did the same thing with my dog growing up! haha i was her sister and of course my parents were her parents! lol i think its normal :) hahaha
Hi! you know, i have since won the tennese lottery and now have a total 56 boston terriers, with 14 on the way...and they all date back to my first 2 bostons in 1981,who died in 1999 on new years exactly 12:00:00 midnight on yk2k both 18 years of age
Twilightgirl, you will love you BT. Jaxon is 3 years old now, and we got a new one in January. She was 9 weeks old when we got her. Six weeks is a little young, you might want to wait another week or two just so he is better socialized. Good luck, they are wonderful dogs.
im gettting a boston terrier in 5 weeks he is going to be 6 weeks old we have met him but he was too young he was 1 week so his eyets were closed and im just woondering how yours was
Boston Terrier puppy! :D Jaxon reminds me of the first night our puppy had in our house... shaking a toy as big as she was too. Jaxon is going to be a handful I bet!! Beware the cuteness!
I'm the same way. I prefer big dogs. I'm not the girl that will carry a dog in my purse. But these guys are prefect little dogs for big dog people. Full of character, intelligence, and love. I can't wait to get one!
Mine cost $300 plus we got another one (who was last in the litter) free because nobody ever bought him so they gave us a free dog after we bought the first one, so it was a buy one get one free talk about a bargain.
whats the best time/week from when it's born to take/buy a puppy? or adopt. you know form abreede ror shelter. yeah? cuz thne if you train it at three weeks, it's more obedient, right? o.o ty.
i recomend a wednesday or thursday 2 or 3 days to get used to the home then a weekend to have fun. 3 weeks is i guess good but usually breeders or sellers dont sell till 6 weeks old also better to wait till then to get shots taken care of and you wouldnt want to get a 3 week puppy and then it dies of an illness 6 weeks are much easier
sources : owned 1 boston terrier and getting another one in 9 days thank you
ty ;D i see. so if i wait six weeks, the shelter's gunna take care of the shots for me? o: but i thought shelters only hold the dogs for three days, then they kill em..
A breeder i would wait at least till six weeks shelters well ive never used one to get a pet . by breeder i mean go through news paper and newspaper close to where you live if you do meet a breeder pay a down payment half price soo that they can hold it then wait till between 9 and 12 weeks that way the shots will paid for and you dont have to get them
another subject tell me if you bred your dogs and they had puppies would you find it rude if someone called you a back yard bredridid ,jerks
the best time apparently is eight weeks, if you get him at 3 weeks, he will have social issues and he hasn't been weaned off of milk, and that milk it best choice because it contains antibodies too,
mine has the same black and white layout as yours, but he has just a hint of brindle, when we brought our boston home he was 7 weeks also, but his ears were already standing straight up :D
however, a good breeder will never let you take the pup home before 9 weeks of age, socialization process take place btw the 6th and 9th week, where the pup will be learning in the litter. :(
Amen to that...too many people don't know how important it is for pups to stay with their mom for at least 8-9 weeks. Thanks for the post - and hope everyone reads it!!
awe what a magic moment, I've never had a dog my whole life and someday I'm gonna get a boston for my first dog. So I can't wait until that first night I bring my little guy home!
Usually the first night is a bit of a hassle.. The puppys are very restless and usually spend almost the entire night running around the house whining and looking for their mother and siblings.
It really helps if you get a blanket or something from the previous owners that has the smell of it's family on it.. this usually helps calm them down.
But as a rule they are very unhappy puppies the first night. =(
I have heard that, but Jaxon was awesome - he was happy the first night and didn't whine at all. I think since my husband was retired and we spent a lot of time with him from the beginning, it kept him from feeling anxious. He's always been a very happy and sociable puppy.
During my lifetime we have had roughly 6 dogs pass through our household. For all of them the first night has been a bit of a shock.
And before anyone starts screaming at me that it's because WE are doing something wrong: That is not the case, my father has had dogs for as long as he remembers. He loves them like his own children, sometimes more than his own children. =P So he knows what he is doing.
It's just a shock for the pups to suddenly be "alone".
Our breeder said it's normally 8 weeks, but Jaxon was actually 7 1/2 weeks, a few days shy of 8 weeks. He turned out great - loveable and well adjusted. My husband was retired when we got him, and was home with him all day to give him plenty of love.
but the last week is essential to learning with play mates.
special guiding dogs are taken when they're at 7 weeks and socialize them earlier so that they dont grow dog behaviors such as puppyplaying. guide dogs are only calmer because they are taken so early.
so one or two days does make a diffrence, thats 48 hours less of learning. yes, they can manage without their mothers at 7 weeks, but its better to buy at 8 weeks.
Yep - it was his very first night. He's a really good natured little guy who just loves to play. He was 4 weeks old when we bought him, and 7 weeks old when we brought him home.

7 and a half. And 1 or 2 days really will not make a difference for the pup.
The 8 week rule was set up to make sure no puppies were ever sold too soon. at 7 weeks they can manage without their mother just fine.
