In Transformers those were Robots so they got away with it. That's why if you watch ROBOTECH or Battle of The Planets both of which Were edited for anerican Audiences you may hear of a Death but you'll never see it played out on screen. They were so libertarian and radical. They didn't even wear uniforms!

They jumped the Shark a bit with Cobra-La, I thought at the time.

The best thing I liked about GI Joe as a kid was it wasn't about people with super powers or stuff that was too "out there." I related more to it than the "Superhero" stuff. The characters were more "real."

Duke was suppose to die in the original plot but after parents and kids freaked out over the almost every transformer hero dying in that classic movie, they changed it. So you are half right, but the actual movie release had him in coma, and awaking from sad coma.
