  • Name of song??? So kickin'.

  • hey never did make it down.

  • I could climb all day with a rope. But to free solo, nu-uh. WAYYY too sketchy.

  • He's a climbing superstar, no doubt about it. Truly amazing mind over matter, to do what he does. However... ALL climbers slip at some point, no fault of their own. You grab onto what appears to be a very firm hand hold, but after several seconds of all your weight on it, something gives and your hand loses the grip. Maybe Alex can sense it on some metaphysical level. But it's not guaranteed. One day, he is going to slip. Alex needs to wise up, shift to using a safety line before it's too late.

  • dope but he's no dam osman

  • this is so beautiful.

  • he gets the bitches

  • LOVE IT when he's all relaxed and slouchy at 2:53..he's all "well, i got up here. Oh, the view's real nice."

  • What is the name of the song?

  • Dude, that song. What is that epic song in the background?

  • @jsmitty901 he doesn't ;)

  • Nice. I could probably climb about 15 feet and then say "That's it!".

  • How does he get down?

  • @jsmitty901 usually free climbing routes have a backside that you can just walk down - OR his partner was actually carrying a bag with his harness and rope and there were anchors to repel from...

  • so who is the guy doing that while holding a camera?

  • Goodness gracious he is cute!

  • probably an ISTP

  • this is more alpha than mma

  • aahhhh

  • @TheEmarbe Thanks for the "politeness". I am not ignorant, but perhaps rude. Thus, I have removed the observation. He is pretty amazing.

  • Crazy. I know he's skilled and all, but no matter what, there's still a risk. If something went wrong, he would be dead. o___o

  • @19409 he will be dead anyway, just like the rest of us ^^

  • @rocks0r but before that, he lived his dream ;)

  • I like that it looks like he's dressed for a bar-b-que in someone's backyard. Khaki shorts and a short-sleeve collared shirt?

  • Rhett and Link.

  • this guy is amazing no matter what you say and has been one of my insperations for a long time. but seriously, who climbs in a shirt?

  • how does these guys get down?

  • @demonbarber17 they hike down the other side....on a normal trail...duhh.

  • The level of risk is directly related to his level of skill and control. He has climbed all his free solos many times before he does them, with ropes and harnesses, and he reaches a point where he KNOWS beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will do it without falling without ropes too. There is actually very minimal risk unless he pushes his limit in terms of climbing difficulty. All the pitches on half dome are between 5:10's and 5:12's I believe, comfortably within his ability to send no problem.

  • @almirras did you see what he was wearing..? Did you hear the way he was talking? Nothing would have fit the video better than chill beach music.

  • Comment removed

  • who da fuck filmed him climbing??

  • @Fadlinification

    A helicopter...

  • Ok the Only thing that comes to my mind is HOW DOES HE GET DOWN? Does he have to climb all the way back down? Thanks for any reply. Amazing by the way, watching gives me chills.

  • @DrewTierney1985 He hikes all the way down the other side of the mountain. (the so-called 'easier' side that most people use to get to Half Dome)

  • @DrewTierney1985

Popular peaks like Half dome, el capitan, yosemite falls, etc all have paths for hikers. So he can just hike down.

  • @DrewTierney1985 this video is not enough to show what he does, because before he have tried this way with rope and security..just the last time is without rope, about your question like you can see in the end of the video, is possible to get to the top without climbing, just by your feet, you can see a family arriving in the moment he finishes the way :)

  • your a living legend bro, keep it that way. im not worthy, im not worthy

  • [insert lame Chuck Norris joke here]

  • This edit is so disappointing. It makes me not want to buy North Face anything again.

Alex's discipline is unreal, the feat unheard of; the choice of chill almost beach surf music is nauseating.

  • How does he get down

  • What A Stud.

  • my man has got balls of iron.

  • I don't usually comment on this sort of thing but previous comments have forced my hand...

If you knew anything about the guy, or what he has done to prepare for this climb, you might understand why most of you are in more danger walking up the stairs than he is on this climb. The dude lives in a van, eats, sleeps, and climbs. He is plenty old enough to make his own decisions about what he does with his life, and I'm confident that he is in a better position than you or I to make the call on w

  • 2:15?????what??????

  • Anyone know the song?

  • I like how he is wearing a seat belt when driving...

  • I watched the full episode on this guy on a dvd i got from the North Face store. At first i thought he was brainless but part way through something he said got to me. When asked how he deals with free solo climbing mentally he said "I just have this unwavering belief that i know i won't fall". This is true with so many pursuits in life. You will only fail if you let yourself fail. You have control over it. If you're confident in what you do and take it one step at a time you're untouchable.

  • And im getting ready to go jog and its alittle chilly out and Im being a whiny bitch about it and then you see this guy...man, that guy has dump truck balls on him...lol

  • I saw one poster encourage Alex to wear a chute at least, would a chute save his life from a thousand ft up?

  • @dgray3746 Unlikely, as I imagine if he were to fall, he would do so backwards, preventing the chute from deploying in time. The chance of there being a suitable LZ where he would fall is slim too. Not to mention the impediment to climbing a parachute would be.

  • he is like "o..k.. so what?..."

  • That should be where all the magic happens. If i was a girl I'd get on my knees for this stud

  • This guy amazes me! Less than one percent can probably do what he does and who is to say that percentage of climbers survive! I admire this guy for his fearless approach, being able to brush aside any mental negativity or anxiety that may get in his way. Alex, you have managed to conquer what nobody has done. Quit while you're ahead bro...you will still be #1 for a very long time!!

  • The world is his playground.

  • how much is his insurance?

  • i was yo dude is so next level i was like somebody needs to pay for this dudes rent . dude is a national treasure .

  • @calexrose agreed, sponsors need to step up! If they're not already..

  • This guy is my new hero, I wish I could climb that with a rope. and what a great pay check some cool gear from North Face. I'm 61, done some cool things in my life and I'm totaly amazed at Alex's skill, there is only a few people ever on this earth that can do as he does. Live your life as you see fit Dude!

  • i can do that with just one hand

  • Just watched the 60 minute on this guy. Pure amazing. This guy is incredible.

  • I was just waking up and half asleep when this guy came on 60 minutes(had tv on) .. when I heard the lady say he was up on a rock wall as high as the empire state building without any equipment I had a panic attack as I pictured myself in his position .. I froze while laying down and freaked out .. safe to say I'm scared of heights lol .. this guy is tremendously impressive

  • thumbs up if ur here after watching 60 minutes

  • Would be so much worse climbing back down haha

  • Hope this guy lives a long and happy life. What an amazing human being!!

  • dude please quit doing this ! your amazing kid, fantastic ! but ya gotta quit bro ! you will die man ! climb everest and other huge mountains and get paid. Teach others, start a school ? but please young blood stop now ! youve proved enough your the best now stop I and others dont wanna read about your death so please STOP free climbing NOW ALEX ! Sincerely Bruce Merritt in Michigan.

  • this is incredible

  • Marry Me?

  • @Kbyusxie romance is dead.

  • What better way to enjoy life...side of a solid rock couple thousand feet off the ground in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Wish I had the nads.

  • Dude climbs 2,000 feet in a button down...BAMF.

  • Damn, my hands are sweating..

  • Totally amazing guy.

My only concern is what if he comes across a scorpion or venomous snake lurking in one of those cracks half way up the cliff?

  • @smoky2004 That would be bad. Lucky for him though snakes and scorpions can't climb a 2,000ft vertical face.

  • crazy, but intriguing

  • rollin in straight button downs.

  • crazy mofo

  • HOLY CRAP! THIS GUYS ****ING CRAZY! :O i don't know how he does it!!!

  • I want this song

  • "that is where the magic happens.... i wish." trust me alex, every girl wants your massive balls

  • Haha he wears his seat belt. Safety first!

  • Anyone know what song this is???

  • RIP ALEX, 100% CONFIRMED

  • @pabloernesto19 Shut up, complete lie

  • @lechodemeista I used to be a lier. Then i took an arrow to the knee

  • Going to climb a 2000 ft cliff today without a robe, better put on my favourite button up shirt.

  • now iam wondering there are pitons and things right, so when you fall you do not fall to your death

  • Crazy! My hands are sweating just watching this

  • how did he get down?

  • Comment removed

  • @peterddakmagic probably a helicopter

  • @peterddakmagic The face of Half Dome is sheer, but you can actually hike to and from the peak from the back way.

  • whats the name of the first song

  • This guy likes climbing mountains without safety. I wish him all the best of luck. Nothing more. Hes not an idiot, he is just living his version of life.. And if you sit in a cubicle from 8-4 and say he is an idiot. I can see why you say that.

  • @Hazzie54321 I sit in an office from 8 to 5.. and I envy, REALLY envy these kinds of people, doing what they love, and living their life.. how I wish one day I could just STOP doing everything, and go live my life without regrets.

  • @DereckRansy its not just gonna happen, got make it happen

  • @DereckRansy I want the same thing. And you know what, if that's what I want then why can't I have it? I can. So can you. Unless you already have kids and what not. But if it's just you do what you truly love. No matter what it is. Fuck jobs and offices working the 8 to 5 or 9 to 5. Outside is life. It's real. Not man-made. We're built for it. Be a part of it. Not stuck in an office your whole life.

  • @DereckRansy just do it. stop thinking and just do. i know it's easier said than done, but why does it have to be?

  • Best porn music ever.

  • no rope

    no harness

or any sort of safety gear

only one big crazy idiot !

  • obviously shopped I can tell from the pixels

  • sometimes i think about how much it would suck to splat on the ground but then i think of how awesome it would be to pop up on top with a bunch of hot chicks up there

  • why the fuck are all those really talented guys driven by an inevitable deathwish?

like...yeah, amazing climb and stuff...but a good climber is old, not dead.

  • @breedingpitmetal Maybe my eyes don't work properly, but it looked like he got to the top ok and lived to tell the story. Now compare that to the 4000 or so people who die every year from simply crossing the road. This guy could be one of those 4000 people, tomorrow.

  • how is it possible to climb with balls that big

  • Accolades. You exemplify God-intervention, as did Philippe Petit, in "Man on Wire". I'll be studying you profoundly, lifelong, for my own advance. The most humble respect, Alex.

  • @nityanandi How... what... this has absolutely nothing to do with God-intervention... people just find ways to make everything religious, geez.

  • How about the government bans all the fast foods and unnatural food additives. so that Americans stop getting so fat and sick they can't solo their coach to carpet instead of idiots calling to "stop" Alex?

  • @zaniellify wish they did do that, obesity in America runs rampant it's disgusting.

  • Yeeeah! Fuuuuck that!!!

  • This channel is not the NF official one. Yet, the video looks like an official one. I'm amazed how a brand like NF can be associated with such a stupid thing: climbing without ropes. Shouldn't they promote safety in the mountains?

  • @petrussola This is why people like northface. Safety? people can do whatever they want.... we don't need idiots like yourself telling people what to do.

  • @petrussola what's 'stupid' to you apparently isn't so stupid to this kid .. he's not harming anyone else .. and however 'stupid' it may be, to him it's apparently something fulfilling within himself.. can't say many people are able to truly live that way

  • So this is extraordinarily dangerous. And most of his fellow climbers say it's unsustainable. What that means is he's pretty much guaranteed to die from doing this. So serious question. Why is it that when someone is addicted to heroin, we have interventions and his family pleads with him to quit. But when someone does this, we praise him and his family says stuff like "he's doing what he loves to do"? Yeah he is, and it's awesome but it's almost certainly going to kill him just like heroin will

  • @italoirish888 live a little mate

  • @italoirish888 very well said. you make a good point, and raise a serious question. Dan Osman's daughter would have really benefited from someone doing an intervention on her now-dead-father. I wonder what she "loves to do" now?

  • @justinhc123 Who gives a *** what someone's "daughter" would think or do? "benefited" my ****

  • @justinhc123 Dan Osman didnt die from free soloing though... just a bad stunt.

  • @italoirish888 Big Brother Nanny State of course needs to do something about this asap...

  • @italoirish888 Oh come on that example is pathetic. Comparing climbing and achieving a goal/dream, and getting addicted to heroin is totally retarded. Yeah it's definitely very risky, but we all take risks every day and 10's, maybe 100's of thousands of people will die every year doing something that we all do on a regular basis.. that's just life. I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing a friend or family member was climbing like this, but it's definitely an achievement to be proud of.

  • @MrBThatsMe Actually heroin is probably a lot less dangerous than this. Sorry to break it to you. Most heroin users exist on the drug for years. This man's peers are telling him this hobby will likely kill him any day. The comparison isn't as crazy as you assume. This is beyond risky. It's basically suicide. It's great he's acheiving a goal but that doesn't change the fact that even other professional climbers are saying he's essentially signing his own death warrant.

  • @italoirish888 How much climbing have you done in your life? I suggest you do some more before judging alex honnold. No other professional climbers are telling him he's signing his own death warrant, they're just saying that if he continues to free solo for the rest of his life, he will probably get hurt at some point.

  • @italoirish888

Your clearly not a climber... climbing is quite a low risk sport.

Alex Honnold is able to climb well above the level required for Half Dome. Climbers are aware that if they do something stupid they can get hurt, much the same as pedestrians know running in front of traffic is stupid. If ya dont do something stupid, youll be fine

Now cheerleading, there's a dangerous sport

  • @italoirish888

    ur a tit

  • @italoirish888 because heroin brings about NOTHING good for you .. this does(to his soul, without hurting him physiologically) .. people do all kinds of 'dangerous' things all the time.. shall we ban any extracurricular activities ? .. no more mountain climbing, no more hiking, no more triathlons, no more marathons, no more driving since a lot more people die from driving than say flying .. so basically we should all live indoors and never step out into the world ..

  • @steelermia Where did I say anything about banning or telling people not to do anything risky? I didn't. Ive done plenty of risky things myself such as skydiving, deploying to Iraq etc. What I'm saying is there is a difference between things that are reasonably safe but MIGHT kill someone, and things like this that are pretty much guaranteed to kill someone. Climbing is a great sport. It's also risky. Climbing without ropes is beyond risky. It's essentially suicidal.

  • @italoirish888 Exactly how I see it. He's just reckless and one day he'll pay the consequences.

  • @shitfacedwaffle the question is: why are we all so hung up on quantity of life over quality? if you live balls out for 23 years and then splat at the bottom of half dome, you still probably lived more than most people. i find peoples sad little lives of playing everything up the middle and not taking chances just debase the whole of the human experience. im more insulted by someone riding a sidewalk scooter to get groceries ( when they can walk but just are too lazy ) than the audacity of alex.

  • @commanderetardo agreed!

  • @commanderetardo I'm not but there are thousands of other ways to live your life without asking for death. I also hate seeing people that live to make money pay their bills and die, or live struggle and die. It's sick. Sure you have to take chances, I agree. If not then whats the point of living at all. I just think this guy is going a little over the end with taking a chance.

  • I can't free solo my stairs!

  • Alex Honnald that was awesome but my tummy hurts now.

  • @SmileDudeMusic "Everybody dies but not everyone lives."

  • awesome

  • He puts a seatbelt on when driving... hahaha

  • @ChristianHartman77 Hahaha i was thinkin the same..

  • I've watched this and a dozen other clips of Alex climbing and it's absolutely mind blowing the guts this guy has to do what he does. I know it's extremely dangerous . But I'm questioning which is the greater attribute, his ability to climb or the ability he obviously has to control his fear. I think I can honestly say that I've never been more moved and impressed by what one single outdoor adventurer has done than what Alex has done and continues to do. I pray to God that he never falls !

  • "Is this where the magic happens?" Awesome!

  • Dumpert

  • Are we looking at the new chuck norris here?

  • how'd the cameraman get up there? ropes i'm guessing?

  • @jizmistful Camera man is chuck norris, he built the mountain and left the cameras behind.

  • How does this guy find underwear big enough to fit the size of his balls? he will have a short life span.

  • Abosulute balls of steel, possibly one of the bravest people around.

  • Dude my friend told me that regularr climbers it takes them like 3 days to climb it. asshole did under 3 hours

  • How many free-solo climbers live past the age of 45?

  • How does he get down???

  • @16ChrisA Walks. Yosemite is cliff faces, not towers. There are trails (which us mere mortals use all the time) to get to the tip-top as well. Some people kinda do the reverse of Alex, walk UP the trail side of Half-Dome and then down on the cliff face side without ropes. They free jump it (parachute on their back).

  • @innismor11 Uh, actually no. Base Jumping is prohibited at Yosemite.

  • @tursiart Uh, actually, "correct" (and "not no"). Base jumping is indeed prohibited in Yosemite. Doesn't mean that people don't do it. Unless National Geographic is into photo-shopping these days -- see the same issue as that with Honnold (it was others base jumping Half Dome). They fine you (whatever that means) and escort you of the Park. They don's attempt to intercept you on you way down. They nab you when you land.

  • @innismor11 Your post implied it was perfectly okay and people do it all the time. It's not really as common as you think. And yes, every one of those base jumpers that do it anyway get arrested, fined and their gear (which is expensive) permanently confiscated. There have been multiple base jump related deaths at Yosemite in the last decade, all illegal. In one unfortunate case, the guy landed perfectly fine but then drowned in the Merced while fleeing park Rangers.

  • @tursiart I clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I most certainly did not imply with my post that "people base jump Half Dome all the time". I only said people do it / have done it. If you make the choice to turn that into something else, cajoled by your view of the matter as it applies at that particular Park, well, then so you do. Off you go then. I also never condoned the practice; heck, whether legal or not. You really should not go about reading things into things .

  • @16ChrisA there's actually stairs behind the mountain.

  • how do we know he didnt climb a pitch then get roped up?look at where the cameramen are.just sayin' lol

  • @fatsmut you can watch the whole thing on the 'first ascent' dvd

  • That's awesome and everything but my brothers next door neighbor used to do the same thing but he had a really bad day when he was doing the same thing. He fell to his death and left behind two little girls and his wife. Your life is your life but don't think that you won't eventually have a bad day just like my brothers next door neighbor (good friend) did. He will be sorely missed! To read his death article Google the keywords: Gretna hiker dies in fall. GOD BLESS HIM AND HIS FAMILY!

  • i get mad anxiety watching his vids 0_o whewww

  • this is some home video editing. Completely ruins it.

  • i would like to see, how is he climbing down :)

  • Congratulations you are the number one. There are no girls will climb buildings like the Robert Alan, not missing girls, once again congratulations.

  • this guy is so chill.

  • nice dude

  • Alex your an amazing climber, we get it. Now please stop soloing. The world needs you to stick around.

    Steve Nootenboom

  • how does he get down?

  • @chuckanola55 base jumping :)

  • @chuckanola55 Hiked down the back, using the trail that most normal people use to ascend Half Dome.
