Please note: in this video we simulate a touch screen -- I am moving the mouse with one hand while holding slurp in the other. We did this since we didn't have the proper touch screen available. In the ideal implementation we would use a touch screen that could sense the position of slurp against it to determine x/y location. If you'd like to learn more about the technical implementation there is a peer reviewed paper from CHI '08 and video of the conference presentation.
First, thanks for the interest. This project is almost 3 years old -- we built slurp over the summer of 2007 and I can assure you (despite the humor and my taste in music) that it does work. You can read our very academic paper about it (linked to above) for all the details. Slurp isn't about networks, or infrastructure, or even about computers -- it's about material and space. It is not a solution but a question: what is this digital world that we have wrought; how can we touch it?
Could you clarify one more thing? The Slurp device is not transferring data -- only pointers, right? So it's still essential for all the participating systems to be networked, correct?
I'm calling ether useless or we a getting Rick Rolled, they relay should put that music on the Internet with out peoples calling fake, and why use IR it slow.
another idea : how about transfering a file... without slurp ? wouldn't that be cool ? like directly between desktops and devices ... through bluetoooth for exemple ? you mean this already exists ??? then what is the slurp for ? another expensive apple accessory ?
Jeez, it's just a song, people. This is a perfectly logical idea that could use the same mechanisms that a graphics tablet uses to know where the pen is even when it's not touching the tablet itself. This and a combination of wireless transceivers and flash memory, you've got yourself a concept!
Woah, it's super cool. But it's a fake/simulated touchscreen, and i noticed that the right side machine the person would always hold the mouse. Was it just a copy paste thing or what?
If you write the software, use some IR devices and perhaps cameras on every computer it shouldn't be a huge problem. Storing the data isn't that simple. It should be possible to use a WIFI connection for it.
It looks nice but you would need all that stuff on each computer to make it work...

Nice idea. But using the Rickroll for the final demo doesn't help the credibility at all.

i think it might be better to use rfid + it'd be nice if even un-linked pc can use it... does it only suck up or drop 1 file at a time???
