  • People need to understand the time period the film was made and the era.

  • Cover the TITTES!!

  • HOLD ON A SECOND!!!! IS THAT WEEZY FROM THE JEFFERSONS?!!!!

  • I hated Tilly in this movie, but that is only a testament to Isabel's talent.

  • "And Furthermore to that, you ain't even all that good-lookin!" LOL!!!

  • wow that maid don't get out much

  • Check out the Sidney Poitier Monologue performed by Gary Mitchell... Just type Sidney Poitier Monologue

  • Dutch Tilt? Or trying to hide the height difference with the camera angle to make her appear higher status?

  • @edstercw the camera work is very effective!

  • AND FURTHERMORE TO THAT U AINT EVEN ALL THAT GOOD LOOKING!!

  • I would told her off. I would have said: ... Hey I do have to look good for you. Besides Miss Sanford!, Women like the beauty inside of a man more than on the outside...! :-)

  • amazing perfomance Isabel sanford

  • I love this movie HATE this scene. I love the fact that Hollywood showed just how much self hate tommin, coonin, house negroes had. I loved when 'joey' told her off at the beginning of the movie. She said 'Tillie, I love you too and you're every bit as black as he is' HILARIOUS!

  • @bgroupie I think you read her character wrong. The maid's motivation is not self-hatred. But rather a mix of pride and over protectiveness. The civil rights movement brought a huge backlash that was felt by all blacks, whether or not they were militant. Tillie doesn't appreciate what John is doing because she just sees him as a troublemaker. Her life was probably quite comfortable and she didn't see any reason to take up arms for a civil rights cause. Yes she is narrow-minded but not dumb

  • @bgroupie That scene was kind of a uncle Tommish...

  • Where are Tom and Helen Willis whenyou need them? LOL

  • @delorme9 Eight years too soon, LOLOLOL.

    Merry Christmas.

  • "You bring any trouble in here and you will see what black power really means!" That is just so funny.

  • @sheltv100 I laughed so hard when she said "you ain't even all that good looking." lmao

  • @tubeviewerthree lol me too

  • @sheltv100 That, 'start your motor', and 'get permanently lost' are what make this movie so watch-againable.

  • Malcolm X would have loved and cherished this woman

  • wow! he actually looked a little scared for a bit there

  • uncle tom woman jive here....sadly

  • LMAO

  • I'm raising my hand!!!!

  • Why is Weezy hating on the brotha for moving on up?

  • @MisterCool hahahaha, good one!

  • DAWM, Weezy!!! You handed him his ass!!

  • she is BADASS

  • pwned

  • At 0:43 ish thats the sign of an amazing actor look at the way Sydney hides behind the blanket like a child.

  • Isabel later said in an interview that she didn't know anything about cooking at the time, and there's one scene in the movie where she's shown trimming the crust off of a pie, and she had practice many times to get it right. She also spoke of the kindness of the stars; Isabel had actually been taking a bus to the studio for her scenes and when Hepburn got wind of it, immediately had a car and driver hired for Isabel.

  • @dvlaries wow so nice from miss hepburn :) it's a really good movie with real legend , hepburn, poitier an spacy!

  • Louise Jefferson did not take any crap from anyone. Not Archie Bunker. Not George J. And certainly not from this guy.

  • Mammy Jefferson lol

  • LMAO! "And further more than that, you ain't even that good looking!"

I haven't seen this movie in the longest time but, I'm happy that I thought of this crazy funny scene!

Oh, quite the contrary Louise Sanford...Mr. Poitier was very handsome looking in this movie! Check out the movie The Willby Consperisey with Micheal Caine and Sidney Poitier. It is a great movie! :)

  • Isabel Sanford is priceless in this movie. She should have won an Oscar for this performance.

  • @SternSuperManiac , a lot of people in Hollywood at the time were campaigning for an Oscar nomination for Ms. Sanford, but in the end she lost out because Beah Richards had been nominated for her work as Mrs. Prentice, and it was unheard of to have two Black actresses in the running for the same role. In fact, it was only seven years later that the Academy had two Black actresses in the race for Best Actress (Cicely Tyson for "Sounder" and Diana Ross for "Lady Sings The Blues"), who both lost.

  • That truly is a shame. As much as I appreciated the role of Beah Richards, I feel that Isabel Sanford provided a more passionate performance. She really gave it her all. I feel that she and Spencer Tracy deserved to win for their performances.

  • I just saw this film on TCM (probably for the tenth time!) and I was JUST thinking the same thing! She was great, and I agree totally! One thing, tho - he WAS that good-lookin'

  • Yeah, he really was that good lookin', and she really was that great!!

  • I saw this movie about a year ago. Its WAY better than the Bernie Mac remake. The "mammy" yelling at Sidney was probably typical of that time.

  • she reminds me of scarlett o' hara's mammy when she disapproved of her marrying rhett, she called him 'trash'

  • I love this scene, it's one of the best in the movie.

  • I couldn't stand her in this film. She does have a Mammie mentality, but at the same time,I think she's jealous because she wish she had a GOOD MAN like John, and that bitch know he good looking. I wish someone will upload this. I love it.

  • Louise told him off. Everybody's criticizing her in this movie. But this is the way people were programmed back in the day including other blacks who served as servants. She was like a Mammie to that girl so she only acting in the best interest of the girl.

  • She should have seen it as a sign of equality.

  • She was looking out for that girl, since she had years with her growing up. That same conversation could easily go on today. Nice Mammie analogy, but not really accurate. In real life, she may not have been crazy about him marrying a white girl either. Funny, how no one thought that maybe the maid had some racial thoughts.

  • Atomic Aunt cha mama))) blasting her

white folks love in his face. This scene is priceless! it reveals the mammy mentality to its finest.

  • Sadly, an excellent portrayal of how self-imposed bigotry and jealousy can create a real barrier, thus preventing a person from getting to know another individual.

  • LOL, hell naw....

  • This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad! She has a real problem. I guess the joke is that she is just an over protective aunty figure....but the sad part is, there were and ARE black folk that don't think other black people should get "upperty" by doing things like advancing in the world. Also, so many black powerful men...yep you know...go for white women. But other than all that, great movie lol I'll get of my soap box now lol

  • What about the Sidney Poiter's father disposition? The scene between his father and Sidney was SO POWERFUL it made me think - yes - that is how it should be.

  • I would have believed in her more if she were angry at him for abandoning black women in preference for a "trophy" blond.

In other words, not worried about protecting her little nursling, but mad on behalf of the blackness she assumes he's rejecting.

  • Those of you who think Miss Sanford stole the scene, raise your hand.

  • Such a Mammy stereotype.

  • damn Weezy!

  • She had to add the "You ain't even all that good looking" comment at the end... I think that was brought on by the shock that he didn't have a shirt on. LMAO

    I love this movie.

  • she's good :)

  • It's the Skool Boi.
