I have watched your series of videos on how to live without work. I have found them most interesting and they have provided me with much food for thought.
Apart from the content of the material you presented, what kept me watching the series was the technical quality of the video itself - it was easy to watch. I was also impressed by your humble, matter of fact, worts and all presentation of your challenges and failings. Thank you for that and I wish you all the best with your new endeavours.
I do have a question and I really hope you can answer that :) b/c it would help me a lot with my plans being a freelancer. Am I a good salesperson, I really don't know. Watching your video "too shy" I wonder how you build up a customer base? Like we all know, not everyone is a good salesperson, I believe one has to have that certain gene/sales mentality. Many call themselves salesman but they aren't. Theres so much psychology behind selling a product, how do you handle this?
First you need to offer a service that people need. Second you need to be there when they need that service. The way you can be there when someone needs a service is you have a relationship with them. The first customers are the hardest. Find businesses that your services are a complement to and ask them to give you referrals. After that, the word of mouth from those customers is the key to success.
I am happy that you have choosen a path that you feel is right for you. I know how hard it is to leave the workforce. I did that very thing about 4 years ago to help my fiance' take care of his sick father. I think you are exactly right in saying that you do tend to lose a part of yourself. I have often felt that very same way..and have recently made the decision to go back to my job of being a Nurse! Good Luck with your new venture!!!Keep us posted on how your doing!
I have been in business for myself for 2.5 years now, and I have to say it is the best lifestyle I ever could have imagined. You really do need to listen to your customers and pay attention to the needs of your potential client base. (You got that right!) It isn't always the best product or service that sells. I still consider the essence of what you are doing now to be part of it. Life without work, should just mean that you are not working for an employer, not that you aren't creating!
you seem happier here.
