I know it is 8 months sincce you asked - but in the interest of anyone else seeing this, yes it works on the Asus EEE 701 model - one of the first models with the least processing power.
In fact it works better than the alternatives I tried.

The uploaded quality is so bad? I believe that the original quality is damn good. I love recordmydesktop

it is some what readable on youtube but not very sharp.

Now that you can watch videos in high quality you can read the text perfectly fine!
How do i get it to look better on youtube :S
