  • Very nice! Thanks!

  • Zappa always thought Vinnie was the best...

  • f**king mouse!

  • Whoops...forgot about Billy Mundi..that aint' no drum machine on Flower Punk home slices...brilliant!...and I hear alot of Vinnie in this guys king playin'..whatcha say Vince?

  • Strictly Genteel-thank you very much.

The 'Jazz Noise Here' version is timed better and is literally Zappa fucking bliss.

    Vinnie's king of the count.

    Aynsley,Jim Gordon,Art Tripp,Ralph,John Guerin-kings of feel.

Boz?-a little bit of both..and a maniac..and the drummer on 'Pomp'

Chad cradled it all- and is the drummer on 'Ship'

    Boy ...what an impossible topic

  • The way Zappa's band sounded throughout the years was based more on the drummer he had at the time more than any other musician.

  • @senna01

Then why does the 1981-2 band sound different from the 1984 band from the 1988 band. They were all backed by Chad Wackerman on drums. Obviously the whole band makes the difference.

  • @grant1r

That's your opinion. Maybe you're confusing what I mean by "sound" with differences in arrangement and instrumentation.

  • @senna01

The sound of the drums? It would be foolish to disregard the arrangement and instrumentation as not effecting the final sound, although that would be to Frank Zappa's discretion. Also the changes in keyboard players. Frank Zappa's band with Vai and Mars is different from Keneally and Martin. Mars and Martin is different from Zavod and Martin.

  • @grant1r

To me it sounds like he molded the arrangements and the band formation according to what the drummer sounded like. Which bands would you say differ the most, 81-84 or 79-81 or 74-76? I didn't include the 88 band because, after all, it was "The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life". Sure every musician counted, but there are major differences and minor differences.

  • Moraisito Ametista - The best...

  • this might be my favorite version now.

  • I was at this gig aged 19............been a massive fan ever since.......and now going to the ZPZ gigs too and taking my 15 year old Daughter..

  • this is when most of the band was really sick from flu.

  • @jancivil but whats funny is they played possibly there best gig here, if you listen to there tracks from this concert its possibly one of the best shows

  • love this version. Chad Wackerman does it for me, been to a couple of his drum clinics in Perth Western Australia

  • i absolutely love the version on YCDTOSA 6 with the zappa scream at the end.

  • this song is a masterpiece

  • Huge Zappa fan since 1975.

Every time you listen to a Zappa piece you hear something new. Even after all these years.

  • @squanto2 too true buddy, i hear it every day

  • I'de have to say that the music, for 1 is phenominal in every way. Also it is vast, and unusual in the very best way? Basically the vibrations are great! Rest in peace Frank Zappa..

  • Gail blows!

  • How nice--- I have never heard a version of this tune from the 78/79 band. Thank You, Timmo. You have some great tracks. If only the ZFT would start releasing some of these recordings.

  • I agree! Vinnie's job on Joe's Garage is unparallelled. Strictly Genteel is definately one of my favorite Zappa compositions although sitting through 200 Motels to get to it can be a bit of a job in itself.

  • ansly dunbar was great too.

  • Thanx for sharing this. I never heard this version before.

  • each drummer performed a different, yet excellent purpose.

  • Vinnie allowed Frank to go into areas that he couldn't with the others. SHIT! I just noticed that I posted here before! Need to get a life!

  • qpine, you are so right. Vinnie was the best w/FZ, and still is...

  • Vinnie Colaiuta was Zappa's best drummer hands down!

  • That he was qpine

  • I must agree, he is quite outstanding

  • i prefer Bozzio

  • @qpine I agree...but what about Chester Thompson...Bozzio...Wackerman...they all ROCK!

  • @qpine I like Vinnie and there`s no questioning his ability but I liked Chester Thompson for the time period he was there.

  • @qpine just to let you know you got the most liked comment on this video, congratulations.. but to be an asshole i need to tell you that's really subjective opinion.. i like colaiuta too, but comparing musician is what rock and heavy metal kids do...

  • @pedalla Okay. Thanks for the notice. As far as being an asshole goes. you nailed it. I don't typically compare musicians in any way. I think my point was to express my love for Vinny and what brought out the best in Frank's soling. And by the way, I'm 43 and listen to Heavy Metal. And a ton of other shit. Anyway, thanks again for letting me know that I got some award that I could fart sideways to a dime about based on a comment that I made two fucking years ago and completely forgot about.

  • @qpine sorry my vote goes narrowly to terry bozzio

  • @qpine i must disagree with the upmost respect but in my humble opinion i must say chester thompson was a mighty fine drummer but i dont think he had a bad musician come through his band. im sure even frank's brother carl must be a pretty good guitarist.

  • @qpine Batz: the best drummer in Zappas time was just everyone, Jimmy Carl Blake, Steve Thomson ,Terry Bozzio, Chad Wakerman and Colaiuta. But it is the thing ,he played only with the best. He was one of the Rock musicans who is exeptet in the the ´´so called´´ E-Musik. So ´´Humor belongs to music?´´ Forget it, it´s only funny.

  • ditto

  • AWESOME!!!! thank you :)
