@pgf95 Actually, anime is considered a style. Yes the term came from animation, but its now its definition is modernized. Manga would also be incorrect because manga is the japanese word for comic. Last time I checked, this was no comic. Learn some facts before you try to troll. You are just embarrassing your self. so just be quiet.

@vihena hey im doing anime but on corel essentials 4 whiich i know is pretty basic compared to say corel x or photoshop (cs3 or 4) which i actually have both but havent figured them out yet. but say what brush strokes or utinsisls could i use for coloring and shading with essentials 4 that would be comparable to corel x or photoshop as far as skin tones and whatnot, cuz i have a way i do it with the fine camel brush, but im trying to get that painting look like the illustarion you posted here

Hi! If you're using photoshop, you have your lines on a separate layer, so you basically paint "under" the layer. The line art consists of just the lines, and the rest is transparent. Hope that helps!

@vihena and if the line art wasn't transparent, you could set its layer mode to "Multiply" then paint under that layer.

@grifonclaws Actually, I put each color on a separate layer. This way I can color and erase all I want, and it won't affect the other layers.

@grifonclaws keep line layer ( lineart) on top . so when u will color it will always be behind the lineart :P

@grifonclaws seperate the lineart from the drawing by place it on a new layer above all the others. Open the lineart image, double-click the "background" layer, and where it says mode, select "multiply". you can go further if u like but it depends on what you like

colouring is like dressing a character in colour, the more elements there are above what you want to colour in, the more you can go over the lines.

You just put your lineart on a top layer, and put all your color layers below it.

How do you get that almost watercolor look and blend colors? I've tried but all I can do is paint one on top of the other. I know how to do it in Corel, though. Help please!

Hmmm... I've never used photoshop elements before, so I wouldn't know...

For me, I use a semi-opaque brush, and when I paint over it, I use the Alt key to pick other colors to blend into them. Hope that helps!

as i got my intuos4 my computer started busting my ass... it always takes some seconds untill i see the brushstrokes i just made. anyone suggestions to increase performance?

yup. your computer may be too slow. increase the ram resources allocated in the photoshop preferences, keep the undo level cache smaller, and use a smaller image size. if you don't intend to print you images, 72dpi is enough
