In regards to the comment about the 63 Chevy convertible, I'm pretty sure I raced against that car in eliminations a number of times. I'm also pretty sure it was a 327. He ran real well and won often. I ran K stock and usually fell into the little stock or middle stock eliminator rounds. A 409 would have been in top stock. The reason it looks so fast on this tape is most of the other cars are in much lower classes.
Incredible,,, yup, thunder rivet was ours, Frank Brunke and Lou Hroncich, Thank Lou for directing me to it/ Brings back a ton of happy memories,, I still have some of the trophies in the basement,,, Darn we were good... for N stock anyhow, hahaha.
Oh, and it was a '49 ford straight six,,, had a ton of torque, and we did have slicks, 9" I think,, hurst floor shifter, no heater, no floor mats.
From old Bridge we would drive to Flemington, eat at the Flemington Diner, then sleep in the car and race at Flemington on Sunday! Miss those crazy, but really fun days. A win, I believe, paid $10. Entry was $3 and gas 28 cents a gallon! The inspector at Old Bridge was a "Duke" Snyder. He later ended up at Island Dragway, which we also ran. The line to get in Island used to back up the highway all the way into town. Our tow cars, with tow bar, was anything that ran!
That light blue and white 1963 Chevy Convertible at 0:17 sure looks fast for a big car and the convertible was heavier than the hardtop. Probably a 409 2x4s also looks like an automatic,
Hey, all you guys that drag raced at "The Bridge" we'd really like to get a hold of you for the annual reunion!

That old '49 Ford is mine! 47 years later I still do this! Can't believe it's on here. We won over 50 trophies with that car, Frank Brunke and I!
