on a second note: nice animation; but it's always tricky to try to realistically represent evolution proportionally to its duration; ultimately the more complex and more interesting the life form the less time it has been around and conversely the more essential a mechanism the more time it took for it to evolve; in a 10 hour video, 10h=4.6 bil years, dinosaurs would be only 20 minutes
Yes the whole argument is rhetorical but it is one that should not be ignored. After all how do I really know that I'm not the only thing that really exists. I would need some kind of extra sense to prove that beyond any doubt. It's not something that I believe but it's also not something that I can really KNOW for sure. Using only the senses and perceptions that I have.
I find it sad that, rather than seeing shared awe by all viewers at the intracacies of such a beautiful process as natural selection, I look through the message boards, and see only arguments on whether or not natural selection even occurs.
@Choowbz deevolution? are you kidding?? primative single cell organisms still exist, in their own ecological niches. What you are refering to is the loss of environment suitable for more complicated organisms, bringing about their demise. That is not regression of any life, but total loss of life, perhaps leaving only the more primative organisms that you are describing. People will not deevolve into ape like beings but will simply die out if the events you describe come about.
@Choowbz there will not be a reverse evolution, as descendants carry all of the genetic information of their ancestors. Thus you are predicting microbacteria with huge amounts of genetic material. And i wouldn't call this the first rise/ fall, look at the major extinctions that occured periodically in the past, i.e. the famous Cretacious extinction event. And what scientist says the Earth is 100 billion years old? Entering "earth 100 billion years old" into Google doesn't turn up anything like that. Enter "age of earth" or "age of universe" and the results will give very consistent results, with the numbers rounded off to slightly different amounts. Earth = 4.5, Universe = 13.75.

I would need some kind of extra sense to prove that beyond any doubt. It's not something that I believe but it's also not something that I can really KNOW for sure. What you are refering to is the loss of environment suitable for more complicated organisms, bringing about their demise. That is not regression of any life, but total loss of life, perhaps leaving only the more primative organisms that you are describing. Humans generally conceptualize time in terms of two to three generations - a little over a hundred years at best. Humans (depending how they are defined), have only been around for 100,000 to 250,000 years. Note the lack of a set of three zeros on the end. Three zeros is ten times longer than you generally ever think about. Geologic time is hard to conceive sometimes.

And what scientist says the Earth is 100 billion years old? Entering "earth 100 billion years old" into Google doesn't turn up anything like that. Enter "age of earth" or "age of universe" and the results will give very consistent results, with the numbers rounded off to slightly different amounts. Earth = 4.5, Universe = 13.75.

Have in mind, that we know very well that the overall energy of the universe is 0. So, you don't need much to get it started. Complexity arises from simplicity.
If you are actually interested, and do not mind if scientific findings contradict dear held beliefs, watch Lawrence Krauss' "A universe from nothing".

Today I went to a vintage car race, and the weather was raining, there were few cars on the track, and I prayed for some sun, and then, out of nowhere, a hole opened up in the clouds and the whole day lit up! Of course, you won't believe me, and you'll think its a coincidence, but its not the only time.
