  • what song is this.

  • My first (and only to date) trip on a 747 was a return flight from London to NYC on a Pan Am 747 (Clipper Flying Cloud, if I remember correctly) in July of 1970. Very memorable experience. I'm old enough to remember when flying was nice.

  • Clipper Westwind renamed Clipper Queen of the Seas... great plane!

  • N753PA era el Clipper Queen of the Seas, "Clipper Westwind" nunca existio...

  • Pan Am What a great time!!

    The Best

  • My first 747 flight was Pan Am Chicago to London, June 1971. My first 707 flight was Pan Am LAX to Honolulu, May 1964. Great times.

  • I love the way you put this film together. Very moving. What a great tribute to the first of the jumbos, and to an iconic airline. I would love to see someone do this for the Stretch DC-8 as well - another great airliner, but one that seems to have been filmed far, far less in its day of passenger service. Cheers.

  • This was a time when big birds flew across great oceans

  • does anyone know the names of the two captains ??

  • There are not business class seats in the upper .

  • Only three windows in the upper deck! Old jumbo//

  • I could have sworn I flew this clipper westwind from JFK-SJU in February 1973..and on return the clipper Midnight Sun

  • 8mm film?

  • Great Vid! Also I miss the 747SP.At that time the SP only can flight straight from TYO to NYC.Im living in TYO. And when I was child I often watched CLIPPER800 from my window. And I was dreaming to go to the world....

  • i was expecting to see jack and rose boarding the plane something very titanic about this video.

  • say hello to a brand new world say hello to PAN AM. long live the clippers

  • maybe this is late in the aircraft's career but their birds just always looked so beat up in pictures

  • what route was this pan am 747 doing? fiji - honolulu - los angeles?

  • It later became Clipper Queen of the Seas in the eighties.

  • Great airline, they flew the world. Pan Am was the best and the great TWA. They pioneered the 747, what a great time it was to fly in those years. People had class, airlines were great and the services aboard. What a joke today. The only airline that makes any sense in these times, is the great Southwest from Love Field Texas.

  • The early 747's were the most beautiful ones because of the smaller dome.

  • Thank you for posting wonderful footage of such a beautiful girl.

  • Anyone know what the music is used on this video? it really is so lovely and very emotional

  • Comment removed

  • @tonightwefly, i believe is from Arvo Part - "Spiegel im Spiegel'

  • i found that video really touching. Music was really nice. Flew on that aircraft from london to the US in the early 80's. I later went on to become cabin crew on a 747-100. lovely plane, such a shame they are all gone. thanks for posting it

  • Thanks for posting this, its priceless to me. Pan American aircraft mechanic......

  • We should prepose to the clipper hostel that a pan am paid scheme is to be rethought? I agee with the other statements. Hats off for the conservation of the classic

  • Found out that one of the Clippers has been preserved as a hostel in Sweden. Google JUMBO HOSTEL. Its shame she isnt still in PAM AM colours but hats off to the guy for saving her.

  • I love watching this stuff.Classic footage of an airline icon, from a time before Lockerbie, and the other events involving this airline, like the hijackings,Tenerife, etc.I watched a great movie featuring this very aircraft a few weeks ago....Die Hard 2!Shame on you,Bruce Willis, for blowing her up...LOL!!

  • THANK YOU ever so much for posting this! It's very dreamy...

  • If this plane is still around and I suspect near the end of her life, surely someone will preserve her. I think the Airline which brought travel to the masses should have a 747 somewhere in a museum. Anyway a little hint to Delta ... I think the brand has got to big and needs to be more personalised ... I got a plan, Paint long haul in PAN AM, make people feel there flying with a specialist airline. Just 1 thing thou it needs to be a wide bodied quad to show off the sign writing!!! 747-8? A380?

  • Nostalgia, i love it

    Great video and lovely music

    5+ stars

  • Awesome vid, nice bit of history, may I add that before she was sold onto Evergreen she was first leased to TWA from December 1988 till 13th of July 1989 which she was then sold into Evergreen International, she is now in storage with hope of flying again sometime soon :)

  • TWA,really???Did she fly there in PAA colors? Can't find that info on the net,nor photos...

  • Im an aircraft tecnician working for Delta airlines terminal 3 JFK(EX. Pan Am worldport) In the basement there is such an erie felling seeing all the old pan am signs and other goodies

  • Wouldnt it be wonderful to get the goodies outta of there and put them up on the eaby or something for the collectors? Might be too big however& all thet red tape to get abouts...

  • In 1987 after I finished school, I had the great opportunity to fly abord a PanAm 747 once, from L.A. Intl. Airport to N.Y. JFK Intl. Airport whilst a vacancy trip to & across the USA with my father.

A really powerful & fine plane. The flight was very comfortable, too.

  • The world's greatest airline.... and now vanished... what I could remember was how much I love flying in childhood times..

It is very sad to see this beautiful bird goes.... she is now flying........ in our memories....

thank you rainscratch for the great flashbacks

    what a pleasure...

  • :-( Oh if only Pan Am had made the right decisions, it could have been the worlds finest airline today!

  • No..!! Pan Am had always been the worlds finest airline, In the end a indifferent US govt destroyed this institution..! R.E.G Davies "the worlds greatest airline"

  • So nice. I saw 3/5th's of the world on PAn Am by the time i was 15. I flew on 36 Clipper 747's before she went out of business. PAnAm will always live for ever. Please donate to teh Pan Am museum in Miami so they can pull out all of their memorabilia that was rescued from the Pan Am building at the last hour b4 creditors took it. Also check out "PanAm GIG EZE" for some great footage. FYI - Clipper America PA 747SP still flies today. She flew at MCAS Airshow earlier this yr - 20 ft off ground!

  • The music was a little schmaltzy for my taste but otherwise a great video. Even with no music my eyes well up though when I think of Pan Am's past glory. What a pity she went down the drain.

  • They flew such big planes to the most remote places, it's so romantic

  • Good old 747 !!! It was, it is and it ever will be my beloved aircraft .... talking as a passenger or simply as a planespotter hanging around at airports and waiting for "Her Majesty" .... '69ers may last forever ;-)

    ... very nice video ...

  • very nice video! :') poor old B747 :'( 5/5!

  • What a beautiful video and a rare treat - thanks for making and uploading - this music really does make me well up! It sounds remarkably similar to the music used in the closing scene of the Waking the Dead episode 'Shadowplay' (the one where Mel dies)

  • Makes me cry..Is that Chuck chillders? Fred Slidem? Dick bolling flght engrnr,1970-79.

  • Unfortunately don't know who the flight crew were. The Captain spotted and reacted to being photographed. How would he have known way back then that he would be seen by thousands in the future world of the internet? If anyone knows who the crew were would be interested to hear.

  • @zgnept, no, but you're close. The crew are Chuck Norris, Fred Dryer and Dick Van Dyke.

  • This video is absolutely beautiful.

  • We miss Pan Am. the 747s. we love Pan Am. this is a Excellent Video. congratulations

  • I don't know what it is about this video I love so much. I just discovered it the other day while searching for Pan Am videos and fell in love with it. Thank you so much for posting this and introducing me to Spiegel im Speigel. This may sound silly but I can't put into words the feeling I got when I first watched it. Sort of a melancholy nostalgia? Yeah, that sounds good.

  • We miss Pan Am. the 747s. we love Pan Am. this is a Excellent Video. congratulations.

  • Very, very good video. Hope Pan Am fly international routes again.

  • very good video, really makes you cry, we miss you Pan Am, a true american icon. The Best of America went away when you dissapeared.

  • Amazing vid i really enjoyed it thank you very much.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I brought back some very nice memories.

  • Lovely film mate. Really brought back some lovely old memories. In memory too of B747-121N473EV - after Pan Am, with Evergreen from 13 Jul 1989, and sadly scrapped at Marana AZ in 2001.

  • Thanks, and also thank you for the info about the ultimate fate of N753PA.

  • Memories for me too, flying in N750PA 'Clipper Rambler', RIP for this old girl, as a boy in 1977. Are there any ex PAN-AM 747-100s still in existance? I think, given this airline's acclaim and iconic legend, one should be preserved somewhere, enought people would support it. It can have many uses inside to make it pay for itself - themed restuarant, bar, conference centre and restore a part of the cabin original. This sort of thing has been done in Europe and South Africa, so why not USA?

  • I know of two ex Pan AM-100s still flying today:

N653PA is now with Evergreen,as N480EV,N744PA is now with General Electric,as N747GE,and is used as an engine test bed.The Evergreen jet is on youtube as well!

  • Thanks Dutchy for that info, great to hear. I hope an ex PAN-AM jet like a 741 somewhere is saved, turned into a cafe and museum, lots of scope for that. In fact noting your from the Netherlands, I see KLM did just that at th Aviodrome. Perfect idee to save a big airliner and at the same time make it pay for its upkeep.

  • It's funny you should say that:I visited that KLM jet in 2006.I've flown on 747s a few times, but never stood next to one until then.HUGE!!!As for a Pan Am jet,as a restaurant:N747PA,the second one off the line,is now a restaurant in Korea!!It's a shame, though because of the ugly color sceme. But it's Clipper name "juan trippe",is still on the fuselage.

  • Yes, I intend to be travelling and visit there (Aviodrome) very soon. There is an F27 Friendship that once flew in NZ, which I think line no.1. Thanks for info on N747PA, as most sites show her as scrapped, but small amount of info shows she is a restaurant. Good news, as hopefully once her value increases further, hopefully a trust could form to save this historic fuselage. There was remains of a PAN AM 707-321 still in PAN AM livery, in Arizona 4 years ago, probably gone now, alas.

  • This actually made me cry

  • Quite a good film. It's a real period piece and it being shot in 8mm makes it all the better. Also nice to know that the craft is still flying and hasn't met the welders torch.

  • Great video.
