This is The Gethsemane Quartet. The lead singer is Penny Andrews. Her husband passed in 2004. I grew up listening to Gethesemane. Penny is still alive but in a rest home in NC somewhere & played piano for Gethsemane for many years. They other vocalists as well as singers throughout the years. They were one of the first, most well respected quartets in Southern Gospel music from NC. Jeanie Johnson a member (in the photos i believe) now famed in the videos from Gaither Homecomings.
Who is in this group and where were they from? Good old gospel singing with the piano being enough. Something like the Melody Singers from Rock Hill, SC.
@lostbootsguy Not really sure. It was an album given to me, and I do not know much about the group. I was surprised by the good sound, however. I think they were headquartered in North Carolina. That's about all I know.
@insman1976 my dad did this recording in our living room with shure mics and berlant reel to reel machines. my dad also played guitar on a few of the songs. my dad, john lookabill, was from greensboro nc as well as the quartet. i cant believe i found this!!!
