To me, this song is about the (understandable) difficulty people have with the concept of God. God isn't going to change your life, letting Him into your life will. That's a difficult nut to crack which obviously let to a beautiful song.
@69drummerdude Even if it wasn't, the concept still applies beautifully. I've seen so many ""secular" songs whose ultimate point so clearly can pertain to the struggles people have with God. The irony can be spectacular.
in the middle part of the song, is he struggling over the possibility that his true love or soul mate might have passed on? "But in the gray of the morning, my mind becomes confused between the dead and the sleeping, and the road that I must choose."

As much as I love you, and I do, Jesus loves you so much more. He is God. He is gracious, kind, forgiving, and gives you more love and peace than you could ever imagine. Please ask Him into your heart.
Is it just me, or would The Flaming Lips do a decent version of this? Don't get me wrong, I love this song, and I'm not particularly a big Flaming Lips fan, but I could see them pulling it off.
@Chrissie644 I know this was uploaded a few moons back, yet, damn this version is fantastic, really shows, you put some love into the sound quality, thanks for the upload. PEACE TO ALL!!!
Another amazing song from the Moody Blues. This is going into my MB favorites playlist. Thanks for the contribution. A good song can be a bit of peace and beauty in our world of confusion.
This song has such a great lyrical meaning and just plain old nostalgic to me. Reminds me of my childhood, but its also relevant to my adulthood. Beautiful music and lyrics and everything!
@beerkat88 me too....I was singing this song in the shower today. Love it soo much. When he starts singing that lyric about needing a miracle in his life I just started bawling
@rsohlich1 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
@rsohlich1 Alexandre Dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels exposing world tyranny(Roman Catholic Empire). Alexandre Dumas pere was born near Paris in 1802 and 'coincidentally' in 1902 The Society of Gesu(Jesuits) were expelled from France for the 3rd and last time. The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
Yes, the music woke we the baby-boomers up. Only to watch Americans buy foreign products which in turn sent companies overseas to produce their products. We watched the greedy and selfish of all generations destroy the life we once knew !!
Once we had unions and a decent wage, everyone bought American products...concepts are great when their is a system to live off of. Get my drift !!!
@nehouma Unfortunately the greedy and selfish are the unions, which drove the prices up and forced the companies overseas for less expensive labor so that they could compete with the foreign products which cost less. Now the unions are running scared because their funding base is shrinking making it more difficult for them to buy socialist politicians like the current campaigner in chief and vice versa. Rant concluded.
as so many have said here this song is as important now as it was then and listening to this song the last few times it is a timeless classic flawless in presentation and superior in its message i am proud to say i grew up with this music and my family taught me to always question everything and try to understand for yourself in this life you live
musicians today in my opinion need to take note and learn if they wish to achieve the level of power like the moody blues
"Between the silence of the mountains and the crashing of the sea lies a land I once lived in.." That has to be beautiful Santa Barbara, the home I long for. I'm looking for a miracle in my life.
Am I crazy or did the Moody Blues redo all their hits and release the shit 20 years after originally releasing it? I think the newer stuff sounds like shit compared to the classic stuff. Maybe it just always sounds different each time I hear depending on the musical source.
No, you are not imagining it. @koenbergheger If all you look for is Sadness ,Despair ,Tragedy and the terrible things in life thats all you'll see and Find. There are Far more greater Kinder and wonderful things going on that truly out number the bad. Just look for those things the news will give you crap stuff.
Partner, that's one dreadful outlook you seem to have going on. Songs may provide some sentiment and food for thought, but only PEOPLE can change the world. Like it or not, manipulation and abuse are a part of human nature -- we're not really all that far removed from grunting cavemen and barbarians -- and there are those who refuse to keep it in check.. Even today, entire governments are build around fear, violence and oppression...
@TheBillsCatz Well said. Especially today. In fact, it's getting worse and worse, because the manipulators think it's all about power and lust and money, and sad to say, too many believe them. When I hear music like this, it lifts me to higher ground where I can see things more clearly. But then again, it all depends on what you are looking for, cause whatever it is, that's what you're going to find. Those who look for nothing find nothing.
@koenbergheger I totally agree with your take on the world situation. I don't think the Moodies had in mind changing the world, though, only waking a few of us up. They didn't have all the anwers. Everybody else was saying: "Look around you at what's happening". They were saying: "If you want to keep your sanity in this insane world, look beyond it and search for meaning and truth. Some of us did just that. Of course, it's a lifelong quest, but any journey begins with the first step. Bless you.
This was a response to AMERICA'S involvement in Viet Nam. Just a little history children. But WHAT A GREAT SONG! Made me pick up my guitar and play.... Just like yesterday!
@mustwinder I'm fairly certain they've got more than one guitar going which lends to the constant cascade of sound. Are they using 12 string or 6? Is 6 capable of the same sound? And i'm sure age had little to do with it, and lots of speed and weed most likely inspired this song. I mean it would be hard to conceptualize and actually carry out writing a song of this 'speed' without being on that level already. Brilliant guitar rift but definitely not something that was written sober.
@proximity1111 The guitar sound at the beginning is Justin Hayward strumming a 12-string guitar with Mike Pinder matching his rhythm on a tambourine. This song is the combination of two different songs Justin Hayward was working on at the time. He got the idea to combine them at a scheduled Saturday morning recording session when he needed to present a song to the band.
@proximity1111 12 string for sure! 12 string has a fuller, more rich sound when strumming but honestly, I've only played a few times and it's been years. You could definitely make this song sound decent on a 6 string, I have it down now. Yeah, speed, weed and probably some LSD. Good example of the difference between a 6 string and 12 string would be Wish You Were Here by Floyd.
yes it does...the web want made for commericals that why you have tv....google has alot more to do with youtube than vevo...get rid of all the commericals off the web ...kapice !

Chrissie644 I'm so happy!! I came across your video a few months ago, and wanted to post something but I was sort of a newbie (even though I'm an oldie), hence, I hesitated. Now that I'm more confident, I'll say this, "you're a good girl to post this great song (I'm assuming you're female!)" Many of us who lost friends in Vietnam, appreciate it a lot; sad but true!! Thank you!

16sag7 When I first read your comment a couple of months ago; I realized, how many of us experience this! Just so sad but beautiful! Especially since I'm from the era of the Vietnam War.
Who, at some point in their life, was not looking for someone to change my life, or looking for a miracle in their life? When you put into beautiful music what everyone, at some time, has felt but not necessarily thought about you have, well, you have the Moody Blues.
@pigjubby ...yeah try to google the songs you want...sometimes it works and sometimes not...sometimes it will even bring you back to you tube..just a suggestion...i have downloaded some off google...their player system seems to work better
Listening to the Moody Blues in the sixties when I was very young, was like undertaking a sacred quest...I never tire of their creativity and, they were just so unique and ohso special...love em forever...
I can't find my original posting about the Moody Blues, but you are persistent. I can't read or write about the war. I go insane. I can't listen to youtube because so much violence has been posted on there by the war porn people.
I mentioned that I was in a fire fight. I only remember the first three to five minutes. Then a blank then firing from another position. Still with my cheap little Sony with a single hearing aid type headphone. I was in a tower hit by a B40 rocket.
“And when you stop and think about it you won’t believe it’s true that all the love you’ve been giving has all been meant for you.” These lyrics changed me forever. I was driving down the freeway in Chino California at 2:00AM when the sleeper was awakened to the true meaning of love. The drive must have put me in a receptive state of mind. It was at this moment I learned the meaning of the love of self and the love of others from these lyrics. All hate was released from me at the very moment.
music like this always makes me smile... don't get music like these nowadays... CURSE AUTO TUNE!!

TheBillsCatz 8 months ago

Bless you.

This song is harder to play than I thought!
mustwinder 11 months ago
@mustwinder You found that out, too!
12Racer99 11 months ago
@12Racer99 Yeah, I can play it now but it took some serious practice! I guess my hand is getting slow, old age maybe.
mustwinder 11 months ago
@mustwinder The old age thing I understand! Only too well.
12Racer99 11 months ago
@mustwinder I'm fairly certain they've got more than one guitar going which lends to the constant cascade of sound. Are they using 12 string or 6? Is 6 capable of the same sound? And i'm sure age had little to do with it, and lots of speed and weed most likely inspired this song. I mean it would be hard to conceptualize and actually carry out writing a song of this 'speed' without being on that level already. Brilliant guitar rift but definitely not something that was written sober.
proximity1111 11 months ago
@proximity1111 The guitar sound at the beginning is Justin Hayward strumming a 12-string guitar with Mike Pinder matching his rhythm on a tambourine. This song is the combination of two different songs Justin Hayward was working on at the time. He got the idea to combine them at a scheduled Saturday morning recording session when he needed to present a song to the band.
Shevek57 11 months ago
@proximity1111 12 string for sure! 12 string has a fuller, more rich sound when strumming but honestly, I've only played a few times and it's been years. You could definitely make this song sound decent on a 6 string, I have it down now. Yeah, speed, weed and probably some LSD. Good example of the difference between a 6 string and 12 string would be Wish You Were Here by Floyd.

This sounds different than the album version! Single version?

Probably the best tune on the album!

I like the song overall but 1:45-4:15 is 2mins and 20secs of subtle passion. v.v I have to do a country vocal as I sing along. So bloody benevolent.

I'm looking for someone to change my life.
I'm looking for a miracle in my life.
And if you could see what it's done to me
To lose the the love I knew
Could safely lead me to
The land that I once knew.
To learn as we grow old
The secrets of our souls.
