It is funny how many products involved in the creation of this video contain copper and nickel. It is also funny how people can be so opposed to mining, yet not think twice about driving a car or talking on a cell phone, or use any of the other countless every day products which rely on mined materials in order to function. It is ok to be opposed, but not ignorant.
the mine hasent even been built yet and probably wont be built for years as htere are still lawsuits and future lawsuits that will come against the project........and thank god for that...........last thing we need are more foreigners raping our land......
The dumbest idea ever...you take the last "truly" pristine waterway in Michigan...the last one that can actrually support Coaster Brook trout and you put an acid mine drainage sulfide mine on it...
20 years of jobs and a 10,000 years of ruined groundwater, a 1000 years of destroyed fishery, and 100 years of destroyed surface ecosystem.
Yes, but why pollute more pristine areas? There's quite a distance from one site to another, and many of the older mines were for iron, which causes much less lasting damage. Since the superfund was de-funded by Bush & Co., cleanup has been halted. And the technology exists to prevent acid mine drainage, but it is often too expensive to use, so cheaper methods, still unproven, are tried to neutralize the wastes. Risks for gluttony, and a legacy of pollution.
kennecott is owned by rio tinto, a UK conglomerate known for its flagrant disregard of environmental law. the money made by this company off the mine will be going out of the country, not recirculating in our economy.
Honest businesses will prosper in the 21st century. Recyclers, better-materials industries, and green materials producers are the future; the small amount of rare elements we do need can come from the safest sources and methods; Efficiency and greater intelligence should lead us toward a green future. Making politics and governance more honest and accountable is a big part of the process. The other is our awareness and connectedness to nature...;-)
Much of the demand is non-essential (and at the current rate, will be so if it isn't already!). Aluminum wire, with the best and properly done connections; earth-friendly plastics for pipe; enamel-ware instead of copper-ware; other alloys for coins and steel. Better to use it efficiently, and recycle. We want the cold beer and the hot pizza - not the copper. Any remaining demand from safest places, ores, and methods. Either way we go, it is the future. Earth only hold so much.
Mining is liek so fukin bad. we need 2 stop it and hllery clinten wil make sshur da mine isnt bilt in mishigin if we vot 4 her. i no peple think its a jok wen i tel tem jilery is teh anser but she is and tey dont no wat tey need 4 ter cuntry so we kan stop minieng.
google earth allows fair use anyway... non for profit enterprise is 'encouraged'. Albeit 'with' their logo so ... Nevertheless, just because something 'looks' GE does not make it GE. Public Domain + 3dStudio = this look no sweat.

to all of you who think kennecott will help our economy:
It is a london and Canadian based company, the only money michigan will see is the wages for the 5 to 7 years the mine will be active

See you at the Mackinaw Bridge Walk Labor Day 2008.
No Sulfide Mine. No Kennecott. Save Marquette County, the U.P. and the Upper Midwest from this beast.

Easy solution to your problem......Just quit buying and using products that contain copper. (If you can find any)

Looks like you used Google Earth, but removed their logos. That's a no-no. Did you get permission to use Google Earth??
FilmmFantastic 4 years ago
It's a combination of World Wind and satellite photos from NASA. So it's royalty free. :]

I also composited a lot of cloud layers into the piece to spice it up a bit, so it does look a bit more dynamic then World Wind by itself.

So cool! thanks for the heads up!
