Jim is the voice of reason, of relevance, of transcendent beauty. His are the songs you've heard again and again in your subconscious longing to be part of a cleaner, saner world where the 'earth comes first', where every living creature has a place in it, and where beautiful songs like his always receive the recognition they deserve.
Hey Jim...beautiful song! You have a nice way with words.
I think I've seen you in concert before out in Oregon. Could you sing some of your other songs? I particularly liked--I'll Wait For You, In For the long Haul, and Guide Us On. This Window is nice too.
i love this song so much if i could sing and play guitar id sing it everywhere. are you trying to disguise your voice and why areyou hiding your face.
I like the melody and pickin', but you need to isolate the vocal without the reverb effect. I think I like the singing, but the reverb is a bit too much for my aging ears (so maybe others with better hearing don't mind). Mainly, I think this song has potential to win over many more besides me. I said a lot to just say this: nice song.
Beautiful words and an omen. We are the generation that can make a difference. It's a calling that was handed to us out of necessity. Recycle - Reuse - Conserve
Nicely Done Jim, Great guitar work, fine lyrics and music. It's good to think about how you don't want to soil your own nest. It's really good for a home recording, imagine how fine it would be if you got it studio-recorded! I bet that'll come along your way. Keep up the good work, and thanks for posting!
It is actually is studio recorded on a cd i made called "The Gathering" which is on itunes. Kind of a folky sounding arrangement with a soaring mandolin break on it. thanks for the nice comment RivenrockGarden.
Ohh, I LOVE mandolin! Gotta look that up. I play didgeridoo myself, it's an interesting instrument. I never really knew too many people who played it, and thought I was pretty good...until I went to the didgeridoo festival in the desert a few years ago. All of a sudden I was in the midst of pros and VERY good players. Now, I am humbled and know... I am a novice player. Keep up the good work Jim!
what troubles me the most is the most powerful country in the world - with all of its human capital, technology and resources - chooses to put up barriers instead of seizing the opportunity to lead the world and showing the way...
Nice one, brilliant song. Words are right sorted and bang on. Thank you guy, get this track in shops. Everyone, please get this out to your mates. Well done, thanks Cezie for telling me about this song.
Hey my mate, fellow Youtube user Cezie2006 recommended I listen to this song. I say music, the singing and especially the words of the song is simply 100% Outstanding. Yes FIRST IS THE EARTH. Well Done mate 5*****
wow, i really like this song!!! great job on singing and playing! it's great and has a great meaning! we should take care of this planet and not be so selfish! peace~juliet ^_^
Wow!!! I am lost for words. I would love to see this song released. You are simply an outstanding Guy. Well done to you. Simply amazing mate and 5-Star and more if I could. Many thanks for this song. 100%Outstanding...
*Applauses* Great job! The music is catchy and the lyrics are full of metaphors. My favorite words are "But by the wisdom of a better way". Wisdom; is there any ounce of it left? But it's the hope for better realities that motivate us to move forward...and that motivated you to write this song. =]
Awesome song! Thanx so much, brother, very heart-felt and nice arrangement, too:)
I was part of Julia "Butterfly" Hill's ground support team, and a good friend of hers, as well, so this song really hits home for me:) Thanx again, my friend! First is the Earth!
Sorry the hands are hard to see through some of this as this is a guitar lesson but the words and chords are included in this video. In the verses the Am and G chord just alternate back and forth very simple. The refrain is a little more tricky (ah the dreaded F chord) but really worth learning. the chord changes lend itself to great improvisation from any instrument.
