He was not a spirit until he died. Its the highway that is cursed, The people who die becuase of that cop haunt that Highway, the people at the Gas station are not spirits. At the end Ashton holmes spirit helps he to safety. He was not a spirit until he died.
@jrpone the car had no plates.he knew every food she liked. he knew she wanted lasik surgery. he knew what she looked like with glasses although she never ever wore them outside of dorm. the guy at station look real real good was the guy who melted away when he came to help her. yes ashton tried to save her but she died too. she watched the coroner shut the door. think think think

I don't know about the car plates, but it was explained why he knew all the things he did; He was stalking her. And if you didn't notice, all of the ghosts don't carry on actual conversations. They just repeat things that they had said prior to their death. Like the scene where she is trying to talk to the cop. Ashton's character was alive up until he died of internal bleeding/freezing. The next time he shows up as a ghost, repeating things he had said to her before. That's what I got anyway.

The moody, atmospheric photography in the "telephone pole" scene is amazing. The performances are especially great. While the film as a whole is quite well done, the last 20 minutes of the film are preposterous (i.e. Car explosion, demon voice, etc.)
yeah this is so sad.. i wish the guy didnt died there. it was so sad!!! and the ending feels like not complete!! but its a nice movie really nice cause its scary!!!
