Harley, I'm glad you're drawing attention to poor diets. I unwittingly tried a calorie restriction diet when first going raw and my hunger was uncomfortable. I've been happy on 811 for 2 years now since finding your videos.
After I've had a large smoothie after being (unintentionally) delayed in eating, my mood swings from low to a natural high.
An other thing to check out. This is where Angela Stokes- Monarch shares her diet. I hardly could believe, that is all she eats, especially, because she claimed in her recent video, that she ate her usual diet during pregnancy. That seems to be next to nothing, according the suggestion of calorie intake promoted by 30 bad. Yet she just had a perfect baby, with less than two hours labor time. How come? I`d like to know what you Guys think
@rawdria She mentioned not being able to face eating early on due to pregnancy nausea which is common. She is probably very, very restful; also able to be extremely relaxed because of her circumstances.
@rawdria She was eating stimulants like maca and cacao and also a lot of nuts (obviously all due to her calorie restriction). My goodness! And no wonder she said she used lots of enemas. Nice lady but bizzare diet to eat / recommend.
I used to eat cooked food I could consume thousands of calories in a day and still be left feeling hungry. It's all about the quality of foods you consume. Calories are an after thought.
calorie restriction is actually the only tested and proven way of increasing life-span in mammals. And I've done water fasts before where at first I admittedly felt like shit, but this was due to the detoxification. After a few days though, I felt great and had amazing energy. I don't think the amount of calories you consume is as important as the nutrient density of your food. I've eaten very little fruit and greens through out the day and have felt satisfied, whereas when...

I have a question. I have been undereating and did not know it until someone let me know today. I have been experiencing low energy but thought it was just the cancer making me tired. Now I know I'm not eating enough and am going to fix it today. How soon after I jack up the calories will I see improvement in my energy? Thanks!
@didrock17 It depends, but shouldn`t take to long. If you have cancer, you definetly need to go all 80/10/10 Low Fat Raw Vegan, and drink a lot of water, get sunshine, air, exercise, go for walks each day, and get a close connection with God, prayer is a good for healing. I don`t know if you believe in God, but you should, gives you the peace you are looking for in Christ. Anyway, the above works, at least do the physical part and you will see quick improvements! =)
@Mekelsior Thanks for your advice. I have been doing all of what you said and have been Low-fat and High-carb vegan since the diagnosis in August. I actually just had no idea about the cals, it didn't even occur to me. I increased heavily on the cals for dinner tonight and plan to triple the cals of what I have been eating, starting tomorrow. Thanks for your reply.
@didrock17 Anytime my friend, now you need to eat about twice as much as you normally eat in order to get half as many calories.. this is from the SAD diet to the vegan diet. This is because the SAD diet is so filled with fat, and fat has 9 Calories pr gram vs 4 Calories pr gram in Carbs and Protein. Excess protein cause acidity and especially animal protein. I will have you in my prayers and may your healing progress rapidly!
This is all true. I was depressed since I was 13, and ironically enough, 13 was when I started starving myself to become thinner. Just a couple months ago, I got over the fear of gaining weight, I started eating enough, combined with 30 + mins of exercise and depression finally went away. Haha, I don't regret a thing. All the friends I broke away from because of my depression are fat losers now anyway. A couple even have babies already. Anyway, thanks for the free book!
Wow.. I don't eat sometimes cos I am to lazy to fix food or don't want to ... LOL and I am depressed as fuck.. Weight 48 kilo and 1m 59 cm tall ... Lol...... And I am sad right now while I'm writing this shit.. My feeling at the moment: "Damn this God forsaking place..."
Hey Harley! Great video! I'm gonna compete in bodybuilding in around 2 years and my bodyfatlevels should then be at around 4%, or 5%. Do u think this is possible todo without some level of starvation? Calorierestriction i mean. Right now im very welltrained and have visible muscles all over, but I'm not at 4-5% . Cheers =)
@massivejester we gotta remember that bodybuilders cut back on carbs and water and salt before a comp to achieve a more 'ripped' look. They dont drop any body fat at all but drop pounds of fluid and that makes the muscles more defined. Go back stage and watch the binges that immediately start literally as soon as the show is over.
Takes at least decade to be an elite body builder too. 2 years aint enough unless you been training for the last 6-8.
@durianriders Thanks for the reply! I've been training for the last 5 years. Right now i have a lot of musclemass, i weigh around 95kg when I wake up. I was thinking 2 years until competition because im 183cm and the guys I will be competing against will be a little bit shorter i think, so to look as big as the shorter guys i was thinking that 2 years would be enough to out on enough. Muscles i mean hehe.
I wouldnt mind waiting even longer tho. Keep doing your videos man! =)
And i've seen the binges hehe, and heard about them. I have a friend who became a swedish champion recently. The competition was on saturday, he stopped drinking water on the thursday before. They must be so hungry and thirsty when competing.
@durianriders Good point, but further, bodybuilders posing in competition are actually in -terrible- shape, as far as performance is concerned; weak as babies.
@massivejester If at least 80% of your calories are from carbs and a maximum of 10% of your calories are from fat and protein, then your body fat percentages will not increase regardless of how many calories you consume. Eat as much as you want and focus on using exercise to lower your body fat percentages.
@b0ondockz pro youtuber, pro speaker, pro coach. Thats how I afford the spotty bananas. ;)
When all our work is play, we will never work another day. Ive never worked longer hours in my life and Ive never spent more time doing what I love doing. I have to force myself to stop 'working' each day lol! Gotta recharge and start again tomorrow.
i blame harley for getting me to eat a lot of carbs which gave me the energy to ride my bike which led me to having some sore muscles. i would have never gotten sore muscles before when i practiced caloric restriction and was carb phobic. damn u durianrider!
so true. last summer i started 'counting calories' and ended up with less energy which ended up with me working out less and i ended up gaining weight. cut out the crap eating, move more and you end up feeling better in all aspects of life. it's not rocket science, it's common sense.
@durianriders I'm all for high carbs, and definitely on board with your overall message. I just find it to be counterproductive to eat way beyond what is needed.
Harley, do you think it is possible that an otherwise healthy person who eats right and exercises could retain a small amount of fat due to not eating enough calories long-term, and his/her body more or less holding onto the fat for emergency energy usage it knows it will need when an under-caloried person attempts to exercise?
I think it's important to distinguish between caloric moderation and severe caloric restriction. Certainly, dipping below 2,000 calories for a grown male is getting into risky territory - especially with sub-par micro-nutrients, but eating in gross excess beyond what the body needs isn't a cure all or magic energy provider. To say that you can eat thousands of calories beyond what you need and not gain is to say that your body cannot do one of its basic and most important functions - storing fat
Eating less supposedly makes you live longer, but maybe it's because you eat less of that junk that would normally kill you faster? (Not saying it's a good thing to under-eat.)
Restricting calories by itself, does not alter the results when the methionine levels stay consistent. My point is? Restriction of methionine, a sulfur containing amino acid (protein, intake is lowered on a calorie restriction diet) is responsible for minimizing mitochondrial oxidation.
Restricting lipids and/or carbohydrates creates no effect on life extension.
First I got up and got an orange then I sat down and fired off a 20 dollar donation. You and your girl helped me peal 17lbs off my butt (so far). And during the holidays no less. You earned it.
I also agree with your aversion to debt. It took 11 years but I paid off my home, got debt free and now 30% of my income covers all my spending for the month. It's taken a lot of work to get here but I'm on easy street now.
@ZeroTemp The concept I was going for was that no animal in nature restricts itself from eating food if it wants it. Carnivores aren't going to not eat an animal if they see one they want becuase we say it is ethically wrong. No, it's in their physiology to consume other animals. My point was, for us humans, when adopting a fruit&veg diet [80/10/10 low-fat high-carb raw vegan ], eat as much as you want. I hope this helped clear up some confusion. Sorry if i was misleading.

FruitarianSwimster 1 month ago
@ReniLariH Lower met. intake:
Lower levels of insulin --> lower IGF-1, glucose, and thyroid hormones
Delayed onset of clouding of the lens in the eye (cataracts)
Livers more resistant to oxidative stress
Decreased levels of mitochondrial oxidative damage
Encourages hormesis which leads to less corticosteroids (stress hormone)
Changes in glutathione (glutathione is protective against oxidative damage)
General decline in protein synthesis (may be protective against age-related decline)
FruitarianSwimster 1 month ago
@ReniLariH In other words, calorie-restrictors cut their methionine intake simply by eating fewer calories...
Which means, when we eat enough calories of fruit and veg, we get low methionine and don't have to calorie restrict.
Of course, methionine is essential, as its biosynthesis provides for non-essential amino acids such as cysteine, carnitine, taurine, and lecithin.
