I was five in 1957 when this was on TV .. I had that Kenner Girder and Panel set. After watching this, i found a few on ebay.and bought the one i had. What an incredible feeling it was opening the box and touching the red girders ,that i havent had in my hands for over 50 years. What was surprising was the amount of time and care i needed to build a stucture as an adult. Then i remembered how we wanted toys back then to take alot of time up in winter, like building models.
As someone who wasn't even born when this was on television, can somebody tell me how long this show ran on TV in NY? It looked like a great show to find out what types of toys you can get.
Toy City seems like a lot of fun--the opportunity of my life!
And the Christmas drink looks delicious!
It just seems like Christmas was a lot more fun back then. Of course that was long before the advent of personal computers and gaming consoles.
It's a shame that young people today don't take advantage of actually using their imaginations and exercising (rather than allowing themselves to lay around and choose to let entertainment seek them out, instead of the other way around).
Bamberger's (Newark) used to also produce a 20 minute TV promotional spot beginning on Thanksgiving afterrnon (the traditional start of the holiday season) featuring all of the year's newest and most popular toys for Christmas. It was called "Toyland Express" then "Santa's Workshop" and was usually seen on WOR-TV,, WPIX, and WNEW during the afternnon and early evening hours right up until Christmas Eve.
Dear WayneScott,When you appeared on "The Sandy Becker Show"..was this his weekday morning or weekday evening series?

The theme music for Mr.Herb Sheldon's version of Wonderama was also used on The Uncle Al Lewis Show.

I remember hearing that music on The Uncle Al Show.
Pop quiz--Sometime in the late 1960's or early 1970's, a young boy appeared on this show. Put on your scrubs and name that actor.

I remember watching Herb Sheldon's last NYC based
kids tv shows on WOR TV Ch.9 from 1959 to 1962. Even then..he really knew how to entertain and
inform the kids.
