You know, unless you're a pilot or you have an understanding of aviation, don't make useless comments. Fsxroflcopter is right, this is well within the operating limit of the 757, which is an EXTREMELY capable airplane. If the approach isn't executed correctly, that's what a go-around is for. Pilots flying into airports with more challenging approaches are well trained, no need to worry.
That 757 is really pushing that runway to the limit. If you fuck up that approach you're finished and so too is a suburb or three. Another example of a poorer country and it's people being put at risk for the all mighty dollar and as always without a moral or humane conscience.
This is almost not even a challenge for pilots. You do realize they get trained intensely. They practice alot. This is almost a piece of cake for pilots.
Merci.
There are many even more dangerous airports around the world than Toncontin . Honduras has a great advantage someone who is afraid about to arrive in Tegucigalpa can use the San Pedro Sula one or any other, any way there are 4 international airports in the country. aether locals and visitors enjoy those approaching, it seem to be like a kind of attraction, I have arrived to Toncontin many times and I have enjoyed too. adelante Tegucigalpa. Thanks
I was there in 2005.I was looking out the left side of the plane when it turned in to taxiway. Then I saw the end of the runway only 50 yards(sorry) meters away!!!
I remember landing from the the north in summer of 2005 looking out from the left side of the plane after my plane grinded to a stop from an unusual hard landing. it to a right turn toward the termial with only 50 feet to spare. Just a rocky hill. If the pilot hit the brakes a second later I might not be. here.
@xxx757 nice video brother i always remember my TEGUCIGALPA i love my country hopefully when i come back to Honduras it will land right there in Toncontin Lol
Toncontin MHTG is being remodeled. The runway extension to the south will help on TO, not Landing.
Gen. SOTO CANO AB is a much better field, just 25nm NW from Tegucigalpa, but it is a MILITARY (US and Honduras) field ONLY and has NO terminal. I fly into Toncontin almost every day.
Oh my god! I was born in Tegucigalpa and I know how small this airport is. The crosswinds would make this an impossible task. I've also seen women pilots bringing this AA 757 into Toncontin. Impressive!

The customs buliding go in looked more like a farm... Customs on the way out looked a bit more 'modern.'

Just another great example of how well trained Airline pilots must be....that capt. must have been an ex-bush pilot !

Deberian construir otro aeropuerto mas grande, seguro y descente.

A better airport already exists, Sotocano. But they only use it as a military field. I landed there with aid, following hurricane Mitch.
All it needs is a terminal building and a new access highway. But what fun is there in that?
frankclau 4 years ago
it has a new terminal building now! and they r trying to xpand the runway!!

i know they are saying about the enlargment, but men we are in honduras it will take them one year make this.
toapanta777 5 years ago
according to the news media , the runway is going to be increased, thereby no more exciting landings! But this has been for over 10 years.
