I like how he sort of trails off on a note, then catches it at the last second and BAAAAMMMMM he hits it like a runway train. Which is what he was. God bless him.
Elvis was a divine spirit who touched us all . There are two people who walked this earth who will never, ever be forgotten ..... JESUS , and Elvis. They walk together now, but Im willing to bet Jesus has just a bit more rhythm in his step now.
I know if Elvis were here today he would dedicate this song to the victims and families of 9/11/2001. REMEMBER the 343 members of FDNY lost that day. REMEMBER the passengers of united flight 93 who gave their lives in a Pennsylvania field to prevent the plane being a missile and saving countless lives somewhere on the ground. And REMEMBER all those who died in the towers and on flights AA 11 and United 175, and those who died in the pentagon and AA 77. REMEMBER to never forget who did it!
Great. Amazing performance. I still prefer the 1973 version (Hawaii/global broadcast), but either way this piece highlights why generations still stand amazed by Elvis.
Music used to be good, now I turn on my radio and hear Bruno Marz et al and their plain obvious lyrics set to weak music and I weep. I should look away... look away
In my humble opinion this should be the national anthem because, after all, we are the UNITED states and the songs message is unification. In fact it took the unification of three songs to arrange it and those three songs represent the north, the south and the suffering of the slaves upon who's backs this country was built. And before I start a race war on Youtube I am a white 49 year old male.
I just absolutely love this song. Elvis did the best he could to make everybody happy. He knew there would be some who wouldn't like him that much. But he chose to love everyone he could anyway. The most kind-hearted man that ever walked this earth. RIP Elvis..We will never forget tou.
@JJKBoston My dad wants this song played at his funeral, I was just recently told by my mom we were listening to Elvis cause she is so in love with him and she played this song and I turned to her and said when I die I want this song played at my funeral she started crying and I ask her whats wrong she tells me your dad wants the same song played at his and u, and we never talked to each other about songs for our funeral to pick the same song means alot to me.
This is his trademark song and my favorite also. I liked the later version of Elvis too. He was at his best 69-72 The International hotel. This is his best performance of American Trilogy. I had the privilege of seeing the king live in Evansville Ind Oct 1976. I was 11yrs old and will never forget it.
This is His best song in My opinion. None of his other songs brought out this much power and richness. I prefer Elvis in his later career his Voice just got better and stronger.
