We should have these in Britain, better than crappy Virgin Pendolinos. Providing we get new track built, all the way from London to Scotland and not just Birmingham!
i like to share something ,when i had conversation with an american he said he dont believe theres a train that runs 300m/h ,i said thats true in japan i was there 20 yrs. ago and i rode that train he said im a lier how can it run that fast in the curve. iwas surprised how japans technology america dont have if you go there you know and see what i mean just look at the cars and electronics.
@n1234ick Well, few reason to be happy: the Dutch HSL has become our biggest railway-fail ever: the carriages mostly run empty, the trains that now run are refurbished carriages who in theory are made for 160 km/h but generate so much noise (especially in tunnels) that I really don't want to be in those things.
And the biggest problem: the trains that will reach 250 km/h (somewhere in the future) aren't in service yet, but the supplement is already at the normal level...
@weeardguy i could see this getting into a who has the worse rail system competition. but at least you are near gemany and they have pretty damn good trains and sorry the netherlands aint very big you could be anywhere in an hour or two
we need these in europe and us. people are so selfish and individualist that they want to travel in private car alone, not interaction with other people like you do in a train. and wounder we got socialization problems. we drive alone, we work alone, we eat alone and finaly we die alone.
@catalinux007leiro In europe you dont need more train syste any more, bcause you do almost every thing alone, this is why your population is decreasing rapidly. I never saw the profession of train pusher like japan.
@macdaddy1600 The German Siemens Velaro is faster than the Shinkansen, infact the Velaro is the fastest series produced train in the world.. I wonder for how long..
@UraeusAnkhAmon There's a world record TGV made only to break the speed record but that train isn't in series production and doesn't transport any passengers on daily basis.
The Velaro on the other hand is in serial production and is faster than the serial production version of the TGV (320km/h vs 350 km/h).
The Velaro is the better and more modern train, tilting train technolodgy, pressure compansation, and passengers can sit in the first wagon.
@Raffix394 First of all you were talking about the speed, and it's 320 (TGV) vs. 300 (ICE) second this train has an operating speed of 300 too, so it's slower than the TGV.
@Raffix394 not really. is not a TGV is a special train. 75% of technologie si from AGV. a new train whit commercial speed is 360kmh.
i dont think Valero is better specially it dont have an articulated system for safety. when the ICE derailed in 1997 there has been 100 death, compare to a TGV, derailed at 294kmh only 10 slightly injured person.
@Nervantoss Yes... but did the TGV also slam into a concrete bridge after derailing? That has caused the most deaths at the Eschede crash, because all carriages behind it piled up as the first one plowed into the bridge.
Apparently this is retiring...fucking ridiculous that they are retiring trains that are better, younger, faster, and better looking than any we have in the UK. Stupid fucking country I live in.
The retirement has been driven by the jealousy the JR Tokai holds against the JR East. Tokai was given none of the real estates in the Capital, had its HQ pushed out to Nagoya, and they believe that this discriminating treatment had been masterminded by the East. Because the best Tokai can do is to delay the connection of the IC card settlement system with the East, they turns to the West to bully. Sad people.
This is the BEST looking train in the world. I had the good fortune of riding it twice. Sadly JR West has retired it from Nozomi duty and put it on Kodama duty from Osaka to Hakata. You will never see this train in Tokyo again
@pinkfreud62 yes you can invent such a useless thing. Do you know nuc plants in USA are constructed by Japanese companies such as Hitachi or Toshiba? USA cannot construct nuc plants without Japanese technologies. Pls know how to invent usefull things.
Dont forget the flux capacitor merged with a gammatron 3000 for more hyrdo-sync displacement at warp 30. Thats important when yeilding solor wind hyper tension during space travel. You know...
Yes, it does. And it is really competing airplanes. Airplanes are technically faster than Shinkansen, though you have to go all the way to the airport which is usually far from the central part of cities. However, you can get on Shinkansen in cities. I prefer Shinkansen rather than planes when I go to Tokyo from Osaka. Becasue it is easier and quicker for me. My body doesn't get tired by Shinkansen, but I'm always tired after I get on airplane for Tokyo somehow.
When Shinkansen debuted 40 years ago, there were 2 types of trains. "Hikari" (means "light") and "Kodama" ("echo" - sound). Kodama stops all stations while Hikari stops limited stations, so Hikari (light) is faster than Kodama (sound), so it makes sense, doesn't it?
At 1992, JR introduced the 3rd type of train that is faster than Hikari. But nothing can be faster than light. JR thought "hope is faster than anything, even than light." and "Nozomi" ("hope") became the name of the train.

@UraeusAnkhAmon Yes I was talking about the speed of production trains, I never said anything about the ICE.
"ICE" are different train models and it's jst the name the Deutsche Bahn gave the trains not Siemens, the current ICE 3 trains reach up to 330km/h.
That's just a sidenote I was talking about the Velaro, and for instance the version for Spanish railroads the Velaro E AVE S-103 reaches 350 km/h.
I will repeat what I said in my previous comment.

Hammeron2M 2 years ago
"Nozomi" means "Hope".
In "hiragana" it is written as "のぞみ" and using chinese character as "望み".
The Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) of the International Space Station (ISS) is called as "KIBO", "きぼう" in hiragana, and "希望" in chinese character.
This "KIBO" also means "Hope".

nozomi, hikari, akazuki names are used for trains well before Shikansen.
don't know about in Japanese main land, but in occupied Korea and Manchuria before WW2,
train running from Busan to Seoul was called Akazuki.
Busan to Bongcheon was called Hikari.
Busan to Manchuria was called Nozomi.
