jazzstep? i hear some steppy elements on the drums so the jam is sorta related to dubstep yet its still different. post-post-dubstep or something. its new
dude, this is great stuff, but not dubstep. However, its would be a perfect background track for dubstep. I see where you are going with this; and if the right dubstep got a hold of this, it would be the sickest thing.
Okay, so I`m a bass player too, but, obviously, not this good. I just wanted to ask, what scales ar you using? And maybe can you suggest some books for noobs? I would like to learn music theory, but ya know, I`m still a teenager and I don`t have time to go to private classes. BTW, wicked skills. Loving your compositions, specially "Was it a Car or a Cat I Saw?"
Well, it depends on how high you set your ramp. If you set it high, its a huge adjustment from what you're normally used to, but worth it if you're into playing like this. It took me about a year taking the ramp on and off to finally decide I liked it.
Basically what it does is prevent your fingers from going a certain distance beyond the strings. This doesn't seem like much, but it forces you to play with a much lighter touch and (theoretically anyway) lets you play faster. That's obviously debatable, but some techniques like matt garrison 4-finger plucking almost require a ramp. It's a feel thing more than anything else. I'd suggest trying a bass with a ramp and see what you think.
It's a laminated slab of wood I sawed off a desk my roommate was throwing away. Probably not the most precise way to do it, but definitely the cheapest, haha.
Cool. Also, is it radiused? and is the height equal to that of your two pickups? People are always saying radiused ramps are the best way to go...do you find it ok?
Haha, no, its just flat. A radiused pickup would be awesome, but that would be costly to have made versus just a flat piece of wood. I use double sided tape to stick it to the bass, and i have enough wedged in there to equal the height of my pickups. It's a very ad hoc job. I find the flat ramp perfectly fine.
Cool that you're using a ramp. When I bought my last bass one came with it, also put it on and took it off a hundred times untill I realized I liked it. For me it affects tone too, not so much "bump" on the front of the note.
do you have piccolo bass strings on that bas if so sweet

I can see why he related it to dubstep, because of the scale he used, either phrygian or harmonic minor.

What does a ramp do?
