First of all, your information is incorrect. Joseph Smith was not praying to know if a "supreme being did exist." He was praying to know his standing before The Lord, (that "supreme being"). If you want accurate information about Joseph Smith, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and what we believe, check out the official websites lds.org and mormon.org, most others are just full of balogna.
If you would like to read what actually happened that night, go to lds.org, click on scriptures, pearl of great price, joseph smith---history, click 1, and read verses 28 and 29. In fact, I invite you to read that whole page. It's Joseph's own account of the first vision and some of that stuff. Read it with an open mind and you just might learn something.

You have disingenuisly taken the quote out of context to fit your adjenda. Why don't put the quote in its context? Why don't you finish the quote? Yes. You are obviously following the Tanner line. Look at the entire quote. He says that He didn't come with the "armies of heaven, in power and great glory." In other words, He didn't come with a bunch of pomp and circumstance. And, as a matter of fact, when you look closer with the entire quote, Brigham specifically says that the Lord did come. It was the Lord who "informed him," not the angel. Read the sentence, "But He did send His angel AND [He, the Lord] informed him [Joseph]"

First of all, when Adam and Eve were first created, they had immortal bodies which were not subject to pain, death, illness, sin, etc. Second, the Adam and Eve were merely our mortal parents, being that they were the first created and all who have live or will live on the earth came after them. God the Father is the one who bore our spirits.

I am so grateful to Jeffrey R. Holland for his amazing example he has given to me, because he is a fantastic example of our Savior. He truly is a man called of God! And his words have helped me through some HUGE problems in my life. I know that he speaks of God. And I know it's true. God's words never cease, and they never will. I can feel it in my heart and know it in my mind. I don't care what other people say or think. They're being deceived if they think otherwise. I love this gospel!

In the first history of Mormonism from 1835 written under Joseph Smith's direction, it says Sept 1823 Joseph Smith began praying in his bed to learn "the all important information, if a Supreme being did exist" (LDS Messenger & Advocate Kirtland Oh Feb 1835)
How could that possibly make sense if Smith had already seen God face-to-face some three years earlier in 1820?

First of all, your information is incorrect. Joseph Smith was not praying to know if a "supreme being did exist." He was praying to know his standing before The Lord, (that "supreme being"). If you want accurate information about Joseph Smith, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and what we believe, check out the official websites lds.org and mormon.org, most others are just full of balogna.

If you would like to read what actually happened that night, go to lds.org, click on scriptures, pearl of great price, joseph smith---history, click 1, and read verses 28 and 29. In fact, I invite you to read that whole page. It's Joseph's own account of the first vision and some of that stuff. Read it with an open mind and you just might learn something.

You inserted your own question mark inside the quotes as if Joseph were praying to find that out. There is no question mark in that quote. You have disingenuisly taken the quote out of context to fit your adjenda. Why don't put the quote in its context? Why don't you finish the quote? Because that was not what Joseph Smith was praying for and you know it. He was praying (restoring the rest of the quote that you omitted) "...to have an assurance that he was accepted of Him."

Yes. You are obviously following the Tanner line. Look at the entire quote. He says that He didn't come with the "armies of heaven, in power and great glory." In other words, He didn't come with a bunch of pomp and circumstance. And, as a matter of fact, when you look closer with the entire quote, Brigham specifically says that the Lord did come. It was the Lord who "informed him," not the angel. Read the sentence, "But He did send His angel AND [He, the Lord] informed him [Joseph]"

@bdplist OK, I don't know which quote you are trying to use, but I can certainly tell by your wording that you're misconstrewing it (sp?). First of all, when Adam and Eve were first created, they had immortal bodies which were not subject to pain, death, illness, sin, etc. Second, the Adam and Eve were merely our mortal parents, being that they were the first created and all who have live or will live on the earth came after them. God the Father is the one who bore our spirits.
