  • Does anyone know what song is playing while they are at the restaurant?

  • Great movie, full of deep meanings! And Rupert Everett is so charming!

  • Great movie. I saw it when i was in Secondary school I was 17... I recorded it. I remember it whid melancholics

  • i love how blatantly obvious they are!

  • A lesbian small video store owner recommended this to me back in the late 80's, when she figured out I was interested in gay-themed films. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen the entire thing. Both as a film and for sheer eye candy value, too. i sort of went around for a while saying "i love food, and drink."

  • I would hate to be in an English Boarding School. I do not know if I could date my own classmates...

  • how did we not know all those people were gay in the 80s(i was a teenager i suppose)...everett, mercury, george michael, elton john and even boy george denied it publicly for a while....how things have changed so much for the better in 20 odd years....i still love rupert everett - he was fantastic as oberon. another strange thing, being a tall woman, ive often felt like a gay man trapped in a womans body!

  • LOL that's one way to look at it! :P

  • Rupert? Cary, more like!!

He is so dreamy, then and now, but I still can't help laugh that he has the exact same haircut here as he does now!

  • I agree. Cary Elwes is one of the best looking actors of all time. I believe this was his first role in a feature film, just 3 years before The Princess Bride.

  • Still hoping someday I'll have a romantic meeting like this, instead of the usual jaded pickups.

  • Rupert Everett is impossibly gorgeous

  • This film was avail. two weeks ago as a 4 film freebie in the Sunday Telegraph newspaper. The Eagle Has Landed, being another.

  • god, pleeeaase someone post the whole thing. its brilliant.

  • have you read "Red Carpets" by Rupert? i'm halfway through it, and it's wonderful.

  • Based years of my life attempting to replicate this sort of romanticism in my own life..alas, it was to no avail-save for an affectation reflected in dressing for dinner and an addiction to Earl Grey tea. "Brideshead" had the same effect! Ah me...perhaps I was born at the wrong time......

  • i didn't know he acted with Cary Elwes..cary was brilliant in princess bride as westley!

  • I think I'm in love with you, but don't dare to say so.

    Miss you...

    Kiss Andreas.x

  • You don't have to be gay to love this film...

  • rupert is beautiful, I have to sse this movie...

  • OMG Cary is so gorgeous in this! How long ago was this made?

  • A little more than twenty years, I think.

  • @hoffmiester1029 - Made in 1983, I think.

  • i have heard that a new film of this one is comming but im not sure....

  • Yes, there is, Daniel Radcliffe auditioned for Guy.

  • Oh Gosh! I remember this from many years ago...what an old bitch I am...

  • This film along with "Beautiful Thing" are the best gay films from the UK..there is also "My Beautiful Launderette" and "The Fruit Machine"...there are two US films - "Parting Glances" and Chuck Solomon's "In the Pink" and finally as an interesting epitaph to the German Democratic Republic the film "Coming Out" produced by DEFA.

  • Maurice (1984) is a really nice film gay themed, too...I think from the UK, too.

  • I love Maurice as well. One of my all-time favorites. The book was amazing also.

  • @Soremepalak - Indeed. There's a lot of similarities between the two.

  • I loved this movie so much in my adoloscent...it ve been so important in my personal love conception....

  • *sigh* One of my favourite films. Rupert was so beautiful in this one. So was Colin Firth, by the way!

  • Look how young and adorable they both look! God they are sexy, even if they are playing gay and one is gay ha...Muhahaha! Cary & Rupert 4 ever (not togeher lol)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, I love this film so much - it's brilliant.

  • Wow I watched this movie say about 15 years ago when I was in junior hight school. And this is the first film I loved. Thank you for uploading.

  • Script, scenery, story, cast, direction.... speechlessly exquisite! English film at its best.

  • sometimes..I just hate why he(Rupert) is so pretty, beautiful and also has a voice kissed by angel

  • i know what u mean...

  • please more! ^^ i love to Cary elwes

  • One of my favourite films of all time. How romantic, if only life was still like this ? Excellent, still moves me

  • hello, im trying to get a copy of thid from the internet but i cant find it. do you know where i can get a copy of the same? i badly want to watch this film.

  • 660003

have you looked on ebay and amazon is where i got my copy but it was region one

  • ok, I know that that's not funny at all, but it's funny

"i heard the most peculiar squeaking sound"

the way british people talk about death is quite possibly the most wonderfully surreal and proper thing ever

  • ah how i remember this.. i used to rent it regularly from the local video shop back in the day.. It is visually stunning and melancholic. I echo gringott's plea to hear the title music again; extraordinarily haunting and beautiful. I will never forget it....

  • o and i have a website dedicated to cary elwes too lol

    www(dot)caryelwes(dot)fusiveweb(dot)co(dot)uk

  • And Upload it all!!!! please!!! ^-^

i need to see it! lol

  • This looks like a great film, its the only one i havnt seen with cary elwes in ^-^

Could someone tell me please what the storys about?

    thanks

  • The film's Another Country (1985) and was Rupert Everett's first and (I think) Cary Elwes. It's a beautiful film and the acting's top-notch. That scene is probably one of the most romantic in gay cinema. Clandestine's a good word. At the age of 15, I fell for Cary Elwes after seeing him in that (yes, I know everyone loves him in Princess Bride) but he looks so beautiful throughout that scene. Thanks for posting.

  • @JackEastend - I think it was Colin Firth's first too.

  • please please please post more of this film, please post the opening credits, i havent heard the music in years and years and i love it to bits

  • Ooh! What is this film - what's it about? It looks delightfully pretty and gay and english - my favourite things! I thought I'd seen most rupert everett films - I'm thrilled to discover there's another gem somewhere...

  • Ohh it's the cambridge spies-colin firth one, isn't it? Never mind...

  • yes it is!

  • Oh, I love this movie! Thanks! :D
