  • hey what kind of shades are those they look sleek and sharp

  • @anyonejackpot13 aviators

  • @fecesonfoot sorry, horrible is really a word befitting what i meant, sad is what i meant, a sorrowful job really. Full of pride i would be, for the great service that they have done for their country, but sorrow aswell, for the family and those left behing. As Stalin said "a thousand men dieing is a statistic, while one man dieing is a tradegedy". thats what i meant, sorry for the misconscrued meaning.

  • えらいな~ (英語はわからんので)アイロン掛けとか掃除とかが苦手な私としては・・・そっちに感心してしまいました・・・

  • ever since i read about these guys, i respect them so much

  • I'm in the Air Force and I have a high respect for these soldiers.

  • @GOOBANANAS

    Remember the old lie;

Dulce e decorum est pro patri mori

  • @muzza512 "Sweet and fitting it is to die for the fatherland" :)

  • Great Video, I sure miss it! Dco 1/3 INF 2005-2009 Full Honors Firing Party....

    Currently w/ C Co 2/3 INF Patriots!

  • @LeGeer1980 i envey you

  • not being a dick of nothing but how come the army is the only one that gets to guard the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier?

  • @USMCchristian1 because the army is the "fighting" branch of the millitary it is fitting that the branch that is for combat would have guard duties, not to mention that most of the soilders that the tomb is deticated to from were army soilders, and as USMCchristian1 it is also tradition

  • @USMCchristian1 Because in the beginning, there was the Continental Army.

  • the Old Guard is a Napoleonic French Regiment

  • I,m a proud veteran of the Old Guard and the U.S. Army.

Thank you for your service gentleman. You make me proud.

  • Ye guys do an AWESOME JOB! Every single person like YOU! Makes America what it is today. Hold your head up HIGH! And be PROUD! A W E S O M E!!! :)

  • Alright for the 2 morons who cant find a better place to discuss this you need to find somewhere else to fight this out. I am a part of this unit and dont appreciate people seeing this garbage below a video about some great soldiers doing a great and honorable job. Ohh and by the way all the funerals done are not active duty, most are men who served and then lived a long life that they fought to have. We dont get to choose where we go and who we fight. We do it anyway because we love America.

  • dont forget the PT belt

  • Thank You will all my heart!

  • Well done!

  • Wow, he mentioned Delaware! I didn't know they had a branch right here in Dover.

  • One who honors the fallen, honors him self.

Max respect for all you guys!

    Semper Fi.

  • Much respect for these soldiers.

  • @alanjakarta your answer is that, The Old Guard is the oldest active infantry unit in the United States of America. The Old Guard is the 3rd regiment, 1st battalian, that of which dates back to the 1840's. There is much more history behind it, which im sure you wouldnt care to hear.

  • do u have go to the front if you're in the Old Guard

  • Dawg Co. 80 - 83 - 2nd. platoon - "Casket Team"

Best years of my life. This video is the definitive Old Guard video as far as I'm concerned. I suppose more emphasis could be placed on the tactical role The Old Guard performs, but overall this one captures the patriotism and unflinching dedication of service in Old Guard.

    Well done, and thanks!

  • Thank you. I think that a lot of people do not know of traditions such as The Old Guard. I believe it is an important part that should be upheld and respected. It is also my belief that the men and women of The United States Military whatever their role, should be respected. To give ones life to protect the many, is the ultimate sacrifice. They are our heros and should be treated as such. You have the utmost respect from me. Be proud, be safe, be strong. Thank you.

  • To (ALL) my past, present and future family members of "THE OLD GUARD"! Ensure to treasure the moment. It was an HONOR to serve for Charlie Guard 3RD Platoon 1st Firing Party from 1980-1982. I am proud to have my grandparents buried in Section 25. I gave 110% each and everyday and now I have the privilege to still be able to visit and remember ALL that I gave during my tenure at "THE OLD GUARD"! I am proud of each and every person that have and will serve at 3RD INFANTRY! Thanks, Sgt Major (R)

  • I am grateful to the Old Guard for the honors they render to our fallen service members; it is just beautiful how much preparation they put into their service.

  • that last bit almost made me tear up! what a horrible job to do, handing over the flag to the next of kin! they can keep it as far as im concerned, to keep your composure must take alot of will power! these, along with the many others from other countries that lay the fallen soldiers to rest have my upmost respect !

  • THANK YOU.

  • We just buried my mother, who was an officer, next to my dad also an officer who was KIA in Korea at Arlington. I am so proud to say that the service that was done by the "Old Guard" rendered a needed closure for me that has lasted all my life. We were a small group, my wife and two daughters. I am so proud of all those serving our country but I especially give thanks from my heart to the O'd Guard. Also, CONGRATS "OLD GUARD" on finishing in the top ten teams in the "Best Ranger" competition.

  • The United States Old Guard The ultimate task of showing Discipline, Loyalty, Respect, Honor, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit, Courtesy, Integrity, Strength, Skill, Precision, and Determination. Every single one of these fine gentlemen deserve our utmost respect of the highest gratitude. Thank you all for your service.

  • Do they fight ?

  • Agreed, tax dollars well spent!!

  • Dark blue wool uniform in the middle of a Virginia summer, yeah heat casualties.

  • One reason it's good to pass their PFA test :)

  • @nubbie1944 ya talk about it lol

  • Damn those Virginia Summers. Haha

  • GOD bless you all!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! :-)

  • Tax dollars wells spent, thank you for your service

  • They can take as much out of my check as they damn well please if it gets a fallen Soldier laid to rest with the proper respect!

  • @Viking445 Not sure if this is sarcasm XD

  • @Jackson15624864 Not a damn word in it was sarcastic!

  • @MysteryManoLove maybe less on your army and more on you healthcare and economy :P

  • @NobleHerold OR WE USE OR ARMY TO TAKE YOUR COUNTRY OVER IN A WEEK AND YOU PAY FOR OUR HEALTHCARE and we will fix our economy with your money. AMERICA FUCK YEA

  • @dekota94 lol, coming from a country who couldn't even defend itself from 19 Islamic fundamentalists. Boom! 3000 dead and an entire country brought to it's knees by fear. Those hero's destroyed your ego and put you back in your place.

  • @BDFPA Yea,19 Islamic homos, please we nuked Japan killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki lets see them match that. lol, o you ever watch, shock an ahh, we took Sadams military in a week. We were saden by our lost but we shocked their world with unstopable power. Those homos only wish they were heros no one knows their names no one remabers them some hero. Lol, and our ego is untouchable. get over yourself Lol.

  • @BDFPA Hmmm seems like we did a hell of a job turning your world upside down after your 19 "heroes" launched a cowardly attack at innocent men women and children.

  • @odbrew my world? i'm an atheist and i live in the UK. But lets not forget the millions of innocent people that the western world have killed since 1900.

  • @MysteryManoLove especially the ironing device at 0:02 and the fine button at 1:27

altough I dont agree a bit with the first part of your comment. I still think I respect their service

  • damn I'm not six feet tall D':

  • @IAmFr33Xp actually the height requirement, unless it has changed since I was there in the early 70's is between 5'10" and 6'2". At the tomb, they group the reliefs according to height so that everyone looks pretty much the same.

  • God Bless each one of them!

  • When the military, along with most marching bands march, they roll their feet(heel to toe). keeping your upper body still while your legs move. the advantage to band is you can keep your ombisure and for the military, of course, you dont bounce.

  • what kind of shoes do they get issued? I noticed that when a tomb guard went by, his head wasn't bobbing up and down.

  • It's the way they walk, look up some other videos and you'll know what I mean...

  • they are standard issue shoes, but the soles are evened out so they can walk smoothly without bouncing

  • They also walk a certain way. Their steps are precise, and they are taught to march a certain way. You will notice with any branch of the military when they march, most of the militants do not bob their heads.

  • You are taught to walk that way. You roll your hips. Its easy.

  • they have a select pair called Bates they are dress uniform issued most of the old guard shoes use plastic ruber soles which allows them to shine more than the standard old black boots and standard dress uniform

  • @SoceitysDeathMarch OMG I sorta hate Bates but LOVE it too. Hate it cause it is painful at first, LOVE it because the material is perfect

  • God bless you, Old Guard, and God bless the United States of America.

  • @TavernWenchBlog Hooah to that.

  • @TavernWenchBlog No God bless us all

  • I would love to be in the old guard, my JROTC AI was but i feel that i couldn't for some reason. They are skilled.

  • Look, I am but a normal red-blooded American woman, so allow me a moment of indulgence when I say "damn, I love a man in uniform!"

  • This sucks I dont meet the height requirements. I wanted to atleast have a chance at this .

  • hmm i did not know that last was really lastes at 0:50

  • Can only enlisted join the Old Guard and/or the other military Drill Teams? Or can Officers join as well?

  • nco's only

  • Yes officers can join too, google their website and it'll tell you every requirement officers and nco's

  • served in the usmc, scout sniper with my own rifle. 22-250. star light scope.

  • Old Guard 1979-1983!!! Keep kicking it boys!!!

  • wow even a height requirement

  • Yes I got picked for it. I was thinking I wanted to be Ranger/ Special Forces and got pulled Old Guard

  • don't lie. if you were in the old guard at all then you volunteered for it just like everyone else.

  • well I was young stupid scard cause I was no longer a CIVVY but not yet a real Soldier and this SGT "Old Guard Recruiter" got me in-processing threw his rank around and I was felt forced cause I guess he was low on his numbers. No I am not sorry about it but that is how it ]happend . I guess he knew he could get fresh fish from Reception where they just do anything NCO's tell them and don't know the Army outside of "TRADOC" eeew I hate that word

  • holly hell its roscoe he was my plt sgt years ago so who ever it is that has this video please get in contact with me

  • I have to admire the Americans for the way they tret the families of soldiers who have passed away, over here they get treated like shit, in fact soldiers are treated like shit by the public

  • marines are the sharpest ALWAYS!

  • Don't forget that Marines are the sharpest but also the rest of our millitary. Yes the Marines are the best of the best that our nation has. But our other sister branches are a part of us too

  • they're the sharpest too! BEAST

  • Marines the sharpest?? Not!!! The U.S. Army's Old Guard is by far the sharpest bunch of soldiers to walk in Arlington. No Marine "Walks the Mat" at The Tomb!!! I served in The Old Guard from 1979 through 1983 and I can tell you the standards for us were as high as they come. The Marines, Navy, and Air Force were all excellent as well. I would say we are all equal in what we do.

  • Marines are not "the sharpest" or "the best of the best." lol, do your research on history before you make a ridiculous comment like that. Army has the best units, and is the oldest branch of the military. Look at history. The Army basically made this country what it is today

  • @paratrooperdan949 the best of the best is the USAF. Army, Marines, and Navy all yell for airsupport. But USAF did start out with the army, but still. Nobody beats the "mosquito winged" men

  • @austinjd1 Haha you must be stupid the best of the best which can be proven is the Navy, they do most of the air support and they have ground infantry which we know as marines. I my self am joining the army but i have the most respect for the Navy an Air force pilot can land on a runway it takes skill for a navy flyboy to land on a moving object in the ocean and the airforce DID NOT start WITH the Army they WERE part of the army

  • @paratrooperdan949 thank you , Finally someone else who believes the marines are NOT the best . But technically the US Coast Guard is the oldest US branch because the army started as the Continental army not the US army but they are the oldest

  • Ok then Army don't call for USMC when they aren't there to land first and take out the hard resistance so ur companies are left with pussy-ass jobs

  • @Xemnasissuperawesome HEY WHY DONT U STFU ARMY IS ONE OF THE OLDEST DAMN MILITARY BRANCHES THERE IS THEVE BEEN THROUGH MORE THEN THE MARINES YEA I GOT REPSECT FOR THE MILITARY PERSONL BUT WHEN U START TO DIS 1 BRANCH IT MAKES IT SOUND LIKE U OUTCASTING IT IM ENLISTED IN THE ARMY IM A CPL. MY DAD WAS IN THE MARINES AND STORMED BEACHES OF NORMANDY DONT DISS IF U CANT TAKE SHIT BACK

  • @BlaizTheMarine It always comes back to that Army is is the oldest if u look up history Continental/US Army isn't that much older than the Continental/US Marines. Furthermore the Navy is the oldest cause wasn't it THE NAVY who had to come to the US to drop off the colonists so that THEY CAN CREATE THE ARMY. Besides from that, point being is just cause The Army is the oldest it doesn't mean it's the best branch. There are times when the younger brother surpasses the older.

  • @Xemnasissuperawesome i hate how it always omes to a marine saying hes better. just pure immature if u ask me, i joined the Army because i wanted to, if i wanted to join the marines i could have, But thankfully thhis country gained its independence (from the Army) and is now the land of the free so i willingly joined the ARMY. learn respect, i know the marines teach it.

    -hooah

  • @Xemnasissuperawesome the NAVY didnt drop off the colonists. The marines, air force and navy also have their own honor guards and the marines also have a presidential escort, a more tactical escort.

  • @Xemnasissuperawesome Yep. Just look at all those Marines storming the Normandy beaches. Jeez! Where was the Army in all that?

  • @retadsdd Actually, the US order of battle during Operation Overlord consisted entirely of Army/Army Air Forces units. The Marines were tasked in the Pacific theater.

  • @Xemnasissuperawesome your just dumb, Marines have their jobs, Army has their jobs. Marines are all infantry, the Army has some Infantry. Basically the marines have more grunts then the infantry.

  • typical marine ego

  • my parents are buried here. 1982 i had the honor of viewing them for the first time ( old guard ) .. I STAND TO SALUTE YOU..this is a job that deserves the highest honor.. thank you for posting

  • Where did they get those stiff/adonized medals from?

  • They are specially authorized for ceremonial settings. Anyone can buy them online. However, Congress made it a Federal crime to claim to be a US Military Veteran when one is not, or to claim awards that one is not authorized. It's called the "Stolen Valor" act.

  • If you're suggesting that I need to steal valor, I don't. I know you can get adonized medals because they're everywhere, but the ribbon part on their's was solid and very crisp looking. Those, I haven't seen.

  • Bravo Co baby 07-

  • zomg at 3:09 i know the far guard.

  • does the old guard hold responsibility for all funerals, all branches?

  • No every branch has their own honor guard. But they are the only branch to guard the unknows.

  • no, each branch has its own.... honor guard.

  • I was a member of Charlie Guard 3rd Platoon First Firing Party from Feb 80/Feb 82. As I recall, when I was in basic down in Ft. Benning Ga., we were asked if we wanted to be stationed at Ft. Myer and after reading up on it I took the opportunity. Glad I did. I was in the Firing Party at the Battalion Funeral of General O.N.Bradley and the boxer Joe Louis Barrow. Both were three perfect cracks. I am now a retired Sergeant Major and works as a Federal Police Officer in DC. HOOAH!!

  • What an honor that must have been to perform at those funerals. From a firefighter-paramedic, and former army grunt 81-85, thanks for your service in and out of the military.

  • Thank you both for your service and patriotism... from a former Navy Petty Officer, Vietnam War, Cold War

  • Unless it has changed, the requirement is 5' 10" or taller but they can give a wiever if you meet all other requirements. A guy in my firing party was only 5' 8"

    D co. 3rd US INF 97-00

  • The requirements change based on need and availability. It was >5'10", 110+ GT score, clean criminal background, 3 or 4 year infantry contract when I was recruited out of Benning.

I know of waivers issued for height, GT score, and background checks while I was there in the 1990's.

  • this goes out to the soldier of the 1st Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment.

    Ahem... HOOAH!!!

  • i wonder who knows when soilders kick and spin there rifles is that a type of drill or what becuase my neighbour is a reeanactor of the WW2 us army 1st infantry division and i saw him at one of his days and did this thing where his rifle was grounded then he did a side kick and span it so the barrel was in his hand then brough it back what the hell is that in aid of?

  • It's just a fancier way of assuming Port Arms or Present Arms.

    DrillMaster

  • Really well made video. Beautifully shot and edited. Touching story as well.

  • good luck to your son and your brother at benning god hates the infantry during basic it will be the hardest thing they will ever do but god loves the infantry after basic thats why the sky is blue

  • These men are so amazing to me. How they can be so dicipline is beyond me. If only I could be as strict and dicipline as them.

  • It takes a lot. The stress is hell, but I loved that job. I miss it.

  • I bet. I was a grunt for 4 years, and would have loved to be in the Old Guard. I always thought the rest of the Army should have been more strict on drill and ceremony. I have a question, do they issue the dress blues? I always wondered why marines get issued them but army soldiers dont'.

  • They're issued at the Old Guard (must return them though, they're made of Wool, not cotton and are VERY VERY expensive). I still have all my shoes and gloves, and even a couple spare hats and pants and such, but my jacket was returned with all the usual stuff. Wouldn't want to wear it many places though. I did get married in my blues though.

  • I was a grunt for 4 yrs, now a firefighter/paramedic. Rookie firemen are amazing at how shiny i can make my boots. I am wondering what method Old Guard members use to shine. I never could figure out how to keep the shine on the leather where it bends. I hate the cracking. Go infantry!

  • well that machine for the pants looks usefull! Still doing it with old flatiron!

Those guys deserve our respect just for standing tall and proud at every temperature. That's not as easy as it seems...

  • My brother is currently in BCT at Fort Benning. He is still in reception, but already knows that he will go to TOG after BCT and AIT.

  • my son is also at Fort Benning in reception as a layover...BCT was "overbooked". He will start the 20th. He was also chosen for the Old Guard.

  • Awesome! My brother started the 20th, also.

  • heat casualties?! People die?

  • casualty means someone gets hurt or dies, not just dies.

  • Chapel to 60.. oh yes, I remember those. C Co '02-04

  • Chapel to 60, I remember too, Charlie Company '92-'94. The best times of my life. Did they still have the Gig Pit across the offices?

  • Its awesome to see someone put this video up. Very few people know all the things that we do here at Arlington, or all of the time and effort we put into each and every service. This is the most accurate video I've ever seen. SFC Robinson is the man.

  • Good job you guys. Keep it up, Infantry! 11B all the way.
