hey ive been watching your videos, and your doing a great job. i was wondering if you could give me a few guitarist who play with this style. i know Eric Johnson does it but who else?
@guitarlordification easiest way to do this is to play the chords in the key of G major for the rythm and the Em pentatonic for the lead. it works really well cos you dont need move any further down the guitar neck then the 3rd fret, plus all the open strings are in key to so you cant go wrong really and if you do go wrong it will still sound ok ( the listener wont notice).
hes been saying acapella guitar playing for a while. at 6:20 he says acapella chords and lead playing. even if he said fashion that still doesnt make any sense. it means without instrument accompanyment
@DAbears5 You're kidding right? If we took everything that literally in music we wouldn't get anywhere. You're missing the entire point of this awesome and educational video because you're picky about how Dave words something? Honestly...
@DAbears5 because the phrase solo guitar means something different to people than the real meaning, he could have said arranging for solo guitar but we still know what he means and he is more than qualified to show how
I really liked how you explained the rhythm using just the bass notes. Is that something you do alot in writiing?
In other words, do you write stuff that way then transpose it later?
Could you do more examples of that? Perhaps how you approach doing such a thing. You'd think after many years that concept would have hit me, but it never did until today.
How long did it take for you to actually compose that? 10 minutes? Or did it take you a couple days of messing with it?
I guess I was assuming since you were making a video lesson that you had an idea what you were going to play before you played it, or have played it before. It was just implied by your comment at 1:50.
Dave, GREAT LESSON as ALWAYS! LOVING the Fenders' (Strats, Teles, etc!) tones! Your sound is always GREAT!
This is also some of your best playing IMO!
I remember (long ago!) Paul Gilbert mentioning a similar sort of "call-and-response" approach, (although PG played more of a "Hendrix-meets-Trower" A-minor sort of riff droning the open-A string) and he (like you) felt it was a very musical way to practice/improve!
I also love how you ALWAYS emphasize the importance of GREAT TIMING!
Hi Dave... thanks for another excellent video. One question though... No more 7's? Specifically, no more Ibanez? Or are you just showcasing classic guitars?
Been thinking of saving up some cash to get some lessons from you online. Somestimes I have questions about a Riff of the Week at is too hard to ask/form in a comment.
I'd love to be able to improve my playing as I want to get into the music business sometime soon. Young and dreamin'. :)
You look like John Travolta

@riffoftheweek would a part of the tone be from the strat itself? It's a beautiful tone and sounds similar to Eric Johnson.
Talico12 1 year ago
is that a custom shop fender? What pickups are those? Can you paraphrase the lesson in such a way that can sound just as nice with a clean tone?

No.
Samarium Cobalt Noiseless.
Yes, will work with clean.
