I have a mac and it crashes. I don't get why people paint this rosy picture of macs like they're the gods of all OSes. I have computers with Windows, Macintonsh, Linux and even Solaris and I can tell you that Macs aren't profoundly brilliant like people make them out to be. My Windows computer works equally well - particularly Windows 7, which works at light speed - much faster than my mac.
I'm not claiming one to be better than the other. These arguments must stop.

I work in the industry - and keep up with the current trends. Windows 2003 was a hyper leap - it can use up to 2048 CPU's and 32 terabytes of memory - on a SAN system - linking 2 million drives together - each drive holding 2.5 terabytes - storage and speed is no longer a problem. MAC's do not have anything even close to this.
And AGAIN - DELL outsells MACs for home use!!. Doesn't matter - Gates owns about 15% of Apple anyhow!!!
Simple Answer: Windows has NEVER crashed on me. Can't tell about MAC - don't own one!

MS than did what they do best to this day COPY!!! For that and the MONOPOLY they had in the 90s (check the ruling again) I give credit. But when It comes to products that have great customer service and its software is made to run optimized with its feature set. Apple's Mac OS X gets that one hands down. Apple is a PC made of the same branded internals as others. OS X and the external build quality is way better.

The linux guis that look like windows are there just to make windows users switch to linux and not be scared of the command line. Plus only 10-20% of the GUIs actually look like Windows, there are copies of OS X and OS 9 and then there are GUIs that don't look like anything else.
As far as GUIs go, first there was the Xerox Star (1979), then the Mac (1984) and then Windows (1985).... X (which is the windowing Linux uses) was originally created in 1984, predating Windows 1.0.... So who's copying who?
The idea of having a taskbar, a start button and the buttons "minimize, maximize and close" in the right corner are made by Microsoft. Now show me a Linux GUI which hasn't copied that...
Firstly, the GUIs (desktop environments) to which you refer are probably Gnome and KDE, which are completely separate projects from Linux, they just happen to run on Linux as well as several other operating systems (unlike Windows, GUIs in Linux are detached from the operating system). Also, in Gnome and KDE, the 'task bar' is optional and vastly more configurable than in Windows. There are plenty of Desktop environments that will run on Linux that don't have a task bar (FVWM etc.)..
On another note, minimize/maximize buttons are not a Microsoft invention, they were present before Windows 1.0 was released. There is much more to judge an operating system on than a few elements of whatever GUI it happens to be using. Your statement that 'without Windows there wouldn't be any Linux GUIs' is just plain wrong, because there were GUIs for UNIX operating systems before Windows was even on the scene!
Unix was the first. Started in 1969, while Mac OS came at 1984 and Winblows at 1985.
And how on earth is Linux based on the same principles of windows? Linux just wants to exist, not make the worlds richest man even richer or get an enormous user base.

But after having windows all my life and buying an apple just last december, I can say osx is much better. Ever noticed how windows will have 6 or 7 different versions of their software with each realease? Apple has ONE each time and eliminates the need to guess if it's what you need. Apple cares about the consumer.

For EVERY MAC sold - roughly 89 people buy a PC with Windows already installed. DELL sells more Windows PC's in a month than MAC sells in a year!!! You can hype it all day - the business world runs on Windows - and it ain't changing anytime soon!!!

WRONG again - 84% of DELL's sales are to people - NOT companies.
I work in the industry - and keep up with the current trends. Windows 2003 was a hyper leap - it can use up to 2048 CPU's and 32 terabytes of memory - on a SAN system - linking 2 million drives together - each drive holding 2.5 terabytes - storage and speed is no longer a problem. MAC's do not have anything even close to this.
And AGAIN - DELL outsells MACs for home use!!. Doesn't matter - Gates owns about 15% of Apple anyhow!!!

@Earthlinked lol Apples GUI OS (First With a Mouse) was purchased with stock options from Xerox and MS made a program to run on the GUI called Office. MS than did what they do best to this day COPY!!! But instead of monolithic kernel MS bought a Disk OS (DOS) from a coder and sold the rights to use it to IBM Based PCs and after years of trying MS finally got a GUI to run over MS-DOS. Windows was plagued with crashes before NT became ready in 2000. Is it me or does 7 have a Linux/ Mac feel. lol

@Earthlinked Windows is a product that is cheap and is just good enough. It has to work with every imaginable hardware configuration. For that and the MONOPOLY they had in the 90s (check the ruling again) I give credit. But when It comes to products that have great customer service and its software is made to run optimized with its feature set. Apple's Mac OS X gets that one hands down. Apple is a PC made of the same branded internals as others. OS X and the external build quality is way better.

The linux guis that look like windows are there just to make windows users switch to linux and not be scared of the command line. Plus only 10-20% of the GUIs actually look like Windows, there are copies of OS X and OS 9 and then there are GUIs that don't look like anything else.

As far as GUIs go, first there was the Xerox Star (1979), then the Mac (1984) and then Windows (1985).... X (which is the windowing Linux uses) was originally created in 1984, predating Windows 1.0.... So who's copying who?

The idea of having a taskbar, a start button and the buttons "minimize, maximize and close" in the right corner are made by Microsoft. Now show me a Linux GUI which hasn't copied that...

Firstly, the GUIs (desktop environments) to which you refer are probably Gnome and KDE, which are completely separate projects from Linux, they just happen to run on Linux as well as several other operating systems (unlike Windows, GUIs in Linux are detached from the operating system). Also, in Gnome and KDE, the 'task bar' is optional and vastly more configurable than in Windows. There are plenty of Desktop environments that will run on Linux that don't have a task bar (FVWM etc.)..

On another note, minimize/maximize buttons are not a Microsoft invention, they were present before Windows 1.0 was released. There is much more to judge an operating system on than a few elements of whatever GUI it happens to be using. Your statement that 'without Windows there wouldn't be any Linux GUIs' is just plain wrong, because there were GUIs for UNIX operating systems before Windows was even on the scene!
