@KRaikkonenSF Why rip? Su-35S (aircraft in production / service) is even more capable than Su-37. Su-37 is just Su-35(T-10M) with vector thrusting and side-stick arrangement. Su-35S is a generation ahead in avionics compared to original Su-35(T-10M), and it has vector thrusting nozzles. Keep in mind that Su-37 is merely an demonstrator, and the designation came from marketing dept., it was never considered for service. Stuff that it demonstrated, is now in service with Su-35S.

Most likely the best mass produced fighter t come out of the Cold War, only seconded to the F-15 Eagle, but most likely if the two were to meet on equal ground, the Su-27 would come out on top. It shows how all fields of aircraft design can be combined into an effective system and be very successful. The legacy of the Su-27 is carried on by the Su-35 and (If they ever make it) the Su-37.
F-22 raptor is an advance 5th generation stealth fighter but its still experimental... it has never been attempted to used in major war since the f-117 had been shot down over kossovo. its not even reliable so far... like the russian built PAK - FA is still undergoing experiments and improvements. In my opinion its good to have a dogfight with aircrafts with matched capabilities that the only makes the critical difference is nothing but the pilot's skills! without stealth or any jamming devices.

No matter what anyone here says I LOVE the looks of the Flanker series. In the air canard versions look AMAZING. The 2-seat ones have this aggressively hunched fuselage. A thing of utter beauty. The hottest Flanker to be developed, The Su-35S. Once completed, NO OTHER Gen-4 fighter will equal it.

Add the recent budget cuts to Pentagon and I doubt any will be upgraded. F-15SE is basically F-15E with RAMs, canted fins, new avionics and bomb bays in the conformal tanks. Not much new and nothing worth spending hundreds of millions on.
I don't have the link for it but read the latest "Combat fighter" magazine and they will talk a little more about the counter actions against the J-20 and pak fa using F-15's.

Its just that moron of a defence secretary decided that there is no way F-22 will be sold hence they need a cash cow that F-16 was all the years and since Gen-4 is being rapidly obsoleted by Gen-5, there needs to be gen-5 export plane. F-35 is it. It will cost, per unit, not much less then F-22. F-22 360 million price is including ALL R&D from 1980s. Fly-away cost of F-22 is 160 mil. Russian T-50 will cost much less (Russian internal price is always lower)
@Spetsnazovets The T-50 right now costs less than the F-22 but we will see how much it cost when its in active service. Keep in mind stealth is very expensive and difficult to build and put into production. I can promise that Russia will never be able to meet their production requirements by 2017 for both their own country and foreign sales. Costs will raise as production and development continues.
@vfIskullangel You are confusing FGFA and PAK-FA. They are separate programs and will be built both in Russia and India. The FGFA only just began development. PAK-FA is Russia only just like F-22 is US-only.
F-22s materials should have long ago been replaced with ones made by Northrop since they are much more durable. LM ones are sensitive and there was a plan to sue LM for fraud over RAMs but they got out of it.
I don't wanna guess how many will be made but 200 is planned.

F-15 take on J-20 and T-50? How? With a big radar? F-22 is meant to beat ground radars with WAY more power then a fighter radar. T-50 and J-20 will be just as stealthy. Don't mention RCS. Its aspect dependent with 0.0001 being from dead-head only. So X-band AESA is almost useless. It will be same as fighting F-22. F-15 will get murdered. It needs L-band radars like T-50 will have and Flankers CAN have if ordered
@Spetsnazovets Its not so much about beating ground radar now with larger radars it would be easier to detect stealthy fighters with more up to date plasma stealth which is what the airforce is actually doing to counteract the J-20. Not to mention all of its weapons, avanonics will be from the F-22. The F-15Silent Eagle is suppose to be just that.

Has Silent Eagle been ordered? I can imagine tech transfer as a block upgrade but atm JSF eats into most of USAF budget. Also to find a stealth plane in a class of F-22 even with big AESA at long range is hard. Gotta be within at least 15 miles or closer. Thats assuming it survived BVR barrage.

The F-35s jamming would depend on the band which is tracking it. Again I must defer to Carlo Kopp's article on Russian radar sets, particularly NIIP ans Tikhomirov.
@HeildemKrieg Not quite. Newer Tikhomirov radars are very powerful AESA designs which can see aircraft like the F-22. The problem is that by the time it sees it, it's too late.
AESA radars are being retro fitted to Su-27s. Google Dr Carlo Kopp and find his articles on Russian radar sets. They are very interesting. Radar range and missile range are very important. LO allows the F-22 to get much closer before firing. The F-35 would be vulnerable to this because it is not as stealthy.
Even if the Su27 itself is gettin' a lil' old, the new variants as the Su-35-37 and 34 proved that the original design was more than perfect and still state of the art!

@Camerameister They where handicapped during the fight with not being able to use Awacs AT ALL or their Asea radars BUT the Indians were allowed to use whatever they want. Thats why they came out on top. However when the odds were turned against them the F-15's won everytime.
@vfIskullangel How would it go in Cope when the Indian Su-30s are allowed to use their AESA's? That will be in two or three years. During Cope in basic 4 v 4, the MKI's did very well. That didn't include AESA's (because nobody had them) or AWACS.
@vfIskullangel That already exists. Fighters like the F-15 and the Su-27 are unlikely to ever be equipped with it. I'm saying that all things being equal in armament and *cough* rules of engagement *cough*, a Flanker should overcome an F-15. In truth, they are fairly evenly matched and it will come down to the pilots.
@Camerameister There's a reason why there's more countrys out there that use the F-15 instead of the Su-27. They are expensive to maintain even more than the typical F-15. Also Parts are becoming hard to find. Especially as time continues to progress nobody can afford these aircrafts soon which is why Russia started development of the PakFa. Also why China started developing the J-20.
@vfIskullangel Ahh...I don't think you'd find a lot of support for that argument. The F-15s in US service are getting very close to the end of their service lives. You may recall a few years ago when a couple of them literally fell apart in the air due to structural failure. There are no solutions to this and I really don't see anyone using new build F-15s to bolster their fighter fleet. The E model will continue to be produced for a while yet and retains capability advantages.
@Camerameister Apparently you haven't seen the new F-15 SE or Silent Eagle haven't you? The older C models are at the end of their service lives but the E model was originally designed to last beyond 2045. But the SE is going to fill in the gap were the C models left off.
@vfIskullangel I know about the SE but there's no guarantee it will happen. It is only really intended for second-tier airforces anyway. Thos would be new build also.
The Sukhoi is a lot more than outdated technology. They radars prove this. Again, I suggest you have a look at Kopp's analysis of the Tikhomirov radars which are expected to be retrofitted to Flankers around the world. The Russians haven't stayed still and in some areas exceed Western developments (IRST and EO).
@Camerameister That probably won't happen for another 15 to 25 years when the PAK FA(If it goes into production) hits the market and again by then the Flankers will be so old that there's no point on doing so.
@vfIskullangel The new radars will be retro fitted within the next 2-3 years, not 15-25. Kopp's articles are fairly clear about this. The Russians have long experience of AESA radars. Remember who first introduced them?
@Camerameister The Su-35 isn't even completely in production in large numbers, the PAK is many years ahead before any of this technology. Try 10-17 years. By then again the US will have something far better.

Technology development is a continuum. You seem to have discounted the possibility than the Russians could invent or develop anything new in that time themselves. History shows that would be a very dangerous assumption.

@vfIskullangel There are new build Su27s coming out all the time, mostly under different (Western) names but they are still basically the same. The engines are very supportable and their lifespans, which were once pathetic, have become much longer. Their relative simplicity has made them very servicable in the field and planned upgrades continue apace. Read Dr Carlo Kopp's articles on it for more information, including AESA radar upgrades. There are no plans to obsolete the Flanker yet.
@Camerameister I think the Su-35 is about as great as it will get just like the F-15 SE. But I can tell you now that many will take the SE over the 35 because of its F-22 technology encoperated into its design and the widely avaliable parts vs old outdated technology that the Su-35 is likely to use unless it plans on adapting from the PAK FA which leads me to question what? Thats still underdevelopment in itself. By the time that all happens the US will have developed something better.
@vfIskullangel Not true. The Su-27 will be a potent force for the next 20 years, with constant upgrades. New AESA radars are only a year r two away. The downside for the Flanker is its radar signature: about 12 sq metres vs .3 for the F-22. Against everything else it will still be a major threat but since there are only about 180 F-22s, all of which will be based in the continental US, it's unlikely to be an issue. The PAK FA is as much driven by India as Russia. Exports are key.
@Camerameister The Flanker's major problem is that they are expensive to maintain and build. Thats why russia is trying to upgrade to the Su-35's. Russia claims the PAK FA will be cheaper than the F-35 but I highly doubt that they will be successful at doing so.

Most likely the best mass produced fighter t come out of the Cold War, only seconded to the F-15 Eagle, but most likely if the two were to meet on equal ground, the Su-27 would come out on top. It shows how all fields of aircraft design can be combined into an effective system and be very successful. The legacy of the Su-27 is carried on by the Su-35 and (If they ever make it) the Su-37.

F-22 raptor is an advance 5th generation stealth fighter but its still experimental... it has never been attempted to used in major war since the f-117 had been shot down over kossovo. its not even reliable so far... like the russian built PAK - FA is still undergoing experiments and improvements. In my opinion its good to have a dogfight with aircrafts with matched capabilities that the only makes the critical difference is nothing but the pilot's skills! without stealth or any jamming devices.

No matter what anyone here says I LOVE the looks of the Flanker series. In the air canard versions look AMAZING. The 2-seat ones have this aggressively hunched fuselage. A thing of utter beauty. The hottest Flanker to be developed, The Su-35S. Once completed, NO OTHER Gen-4 fighter will equal it.

Add the recent budget cuts to Pentagon and I doubt any will be upgraded. F-15SE is basically F-15E with RAMs, canted fins, new avionics and bomb bays in the conformal tanks. Not much new and nothing worth spending hundreds of millions on.

@vfIskullangel I have read about that proposal. US laughed about Russian Su-35S and said that F-35 will be too good anyway against it and now they are going down the very same path. Except the only way to improve the detection range is go lower in operating band with longer waves.

Its just that moron of a defence secretary decided that there is no way F-22 will be sold hence they need a cash cow that F-16 was all the years and since Gen-4 is being rapidly obsoleted by Gen-5, there needs to be gen-5 export plane. F-35 is it. It will cost, per unit, not much less then F-22. F-22 360 million price is including ALL R&D from 1980s. Fly-away cost of F-22 is 160 mil. Russian T-50 will cost much less (Russian internal price is always lower)

Keep in mind stealth is very expensive and difficult to build and put into production. I can promise that Russia will never be able to meet their production requirements by 2017 for both their own country and foreign sales. Costs will raise as production and development continues.

@vfIskullangel You are confusing FGFA and PAK-FA. They are separate programs and will be built both in Russia and India. The FGFA only just began development. PAK-FA is Russia only just like F-22 is US-only.
F-22s materials should have long ago been replaced with ones made by Northrop since they are much more durable. LM ones are sensitive and there was a plan to sue LM for fraud over RAMs but they got out of it.
I don't wanna guess how many will be made but 200 is planned.

The only reason its been canned for JSF is that there is a need for a mass-exportable Gen5. Can't export F-22 hence F-35 takes its place despite being a design failure

F-15 take on J-20 and T-50? How? With a big radar? F-22 is meant to beat ground radars with WAY more power then a fighter radar. T-50 and J-20 will be just as stealthy. Don't mention RCS. Its aspect dependent with 0.0001 being from dead-head only. So X-band AESA is almost useless. It will be same as fighting F-22. F-15 will get murdered. It needs L-band radars like T-50 will have and Flankers CAN have if ordered

Not to mention all of its weapons, avanonics will be from the F-22. The F-15Silent Eagle is suppose to be just that.

The F-35s jamming would depend on the band which is tracking it. Again I must defer to Carlo Kopp's article on Russian radar sets, particularly NIIP ans Tikhomirov.

@HeildemKrieg Not quite. Newer Tikhomirov radars are very powerful AESA designs which can see aircraft like the F-22. The problem is that by the time it sees it, it's too late.
AESA radars are being retro fitted to Su-27s. Google Dr Carlo Kopp and find his articles on Russian radar sets. They are very interesting. Radar range and missile range are very important. LO allows the F-22 to get much closer before firing. The F-35 would be vulnerable to this because it is not as stealthy.

@Camerameister They where handicapped during the fight with not being able to use Awacs AT ALL or their Asea radars BUT the Indians were allowed to use whatever they want. Thats why they came out on top. However when the odds were turned against them the F-15's won everytime.

@vfIskullangel How would it go in Cope when the Indian Su-30s are allowed to use their AESA's? That will be in two or three years. During Cope in basic 4 v 4, the MKI's did very well. That didn't include AESA's (because nobody had them) or AWACS.

@vfIskullangel That already exists. Fighters like the F-15 and the Su-27 are unlikely to ever be equipped with it. I'm saying that all things being equal in armament and *cough* rules of engagement *cough*, a Flanker should overcome an F-15. In truth, they are fairly evenly matched and it will come down to the pilots.

@Camerameister Actually the Su-27 is at the end of its service life. The F-15 will probably remain in service for another 40years or longer.

@Camerameister There's a reason why there's more countrys out there that use the F-15 instead of the Su-27. They are expensive to maintain even more than the typical F-15. Also Parts are becoming hard to find. Especially as time continues to progress nobody can afford these aircrafts soon which is why Russia started development of the PakFa. Also why China started developing the J-20.

@vfIskullangel Ahh...I don't think you'd find a lot of support for that argument. The F-15s in US service are getting very close to the end of their service lives. You may recall a few years ago when a couple of them literally fell apart in the air due to structural failure. There are no solutions to this and I really don't see anyone using new build F-15s to bolster their fighter fleet. The E model will continue to be produced for a while yet and retains capability advantages.

@Camerameister Apparently you haven't seen the new F-15 SE or Silent Eagle haven't you? The older C models are at the end of their service lives but the E model was originally designed to last beyond 2045. But the SE is going to fill in the gap were the C models left off.

@vfIskullangel I know about the SE but there's no guarantee it will happen. It is only really intended for second-tier airforces anyway. Thos would be new build also.
The Sukhoi is a lot more than outdated technology. They radars prove this. Again, I suggest you have a look at Kopp's analysis of the Tikhomirov radars which are expected to be retrofitted to Flankers around the world. The Russians haven't stayed still and in some areas exceed Western developments (IRST and EO).

@Camerameister That probably won't happen for another 15 to 25 years when the PAK FA(If it goes into production) hits the market and again by then the Flankers will be so old that there's no point on doing so.

@vfIskullangel The new radars will be retro fitted within the next 2-3 years, not 15-25. Kopp's articles are fairly clear about this. The Russians have long experience of AESA radars. Remember who first introduced them?

@Camerameister The Su-35 isn't even completely in production in large numbers, the PAK is many years ahead before any of this technology. Try 10-17 years. By then again the US will have something far better.

@vfIskullangel You're missing the point. There has been more demand for Su-30s than Su-35s so it doesn't really matter because, except for export types, the technology level is the same within the series. Again, read the material I have recommended.
Technology development is a continuum. You seem to have discounted the possibility than the Russians could invent or develop anything new in that time themselves. History shows that would be a very dangerous assumption.

@vfIskullangel There are new build Su27s coming out all the time, mostly under different (Western) names but they are still basically the same. The engines are very supportable and their lifespans, which were once pathetic, have become much longer. Their relative simplicity has made them very servicable in the field and planned upgrades continue apace. Read Dr Carlo Kopp's articles on it for more information, including AESA radar upgrades. There are no plans to obsolete the Flanker yet.

@Camerameister I think the Su-35 is about as great as it will get just like the F-15 SE. But I can tell you now that many will take the SE over the 35 because of its F-22 technology encoperated into its design and the widely avaliable parts vs old outdated technology that the Su-35 is likely to use unless it plans on adapting from the PAK FA which leads me to question what? Thats still underdevelopment in itself. By the time that all happens the US will have developed something better.

@vfIskullangel Not true. The Su-27 will be a potent force for the next 20 years, with constant upgrades. New AESA radars are only a year r two away. The downside for the Flanker is its radar signature: about 12 sq metres vs .3 for the F-22. Against everything else it will still be a major threat but since there are only about 180 F-22s, all of which will be based in the continental US, it's unlikely to be an issue. The PAK FA is as much driven by India as Russia. Exports are key.

@Camerameister The Flanker's major problem is that they are expensive to maintain and build. Thats why russia is trying to upgrade to the Su-35's. Russia claims the PAK FA will be cheaper than the F-35 but I highly doubt that they will be successful at doing so.

@vfIskullangel Then it would make more sense to build the FAK FA and scrap any future Russian Flankers, wouldn't it? As for cost vs the F-35; that would depend on whether they are doing it in 2002 dollar terms...(wink, wink). It's axiomatic that new combat aircraft always cost more than planned.
