I was only 6 or 7 when I used to listen to this album. I remember being mesmerized by the music and the album art. They definitely don't make 'em like they used to. ReStartMusic you ROCK for putting this up...I've been waiting for about 30 years to hear this song again.
I ACTUALLY saw this band at my old high school. What a great show. They had two members of Max Webster playing with them. Very odd, and enjoyable music. Many thought they were the Beatles, just using another name. Turns out they were four potheads from just north of Toronto.
@roguedrums That is just so friggin awesome!...You must give me details...I'm a big Beatlehead, and have followed Klaatu since the beginnings....just the fact that you even got to see them is amazing to me,and a lot of other fans as well...thanks for sharing the story....
Here's MY story....Me and Tom always spent $10 on new music (albums) each payday...two young Air Force pukes in Phx , AZ. On one excursion to Rainbow Records, we saw Klaatu, the first album. If y'all remember, this first release had no words on the album cover or spine...just artwork. We had no idea who it was, what kind of music it was, nothing...so we bought it. What a chance, but what a result. I love KLAATU ! We bought all the first 4 albums...then kind of lost track..nice to see them here.
I actually saw these guys in the late 70's or very early 80's. They were fantastic! They opened with Little Neutrino......the whole thing! Gawd, that was such a great night.
I still have the old albums...won't ever part with them :)
A cunningly addictive album. Jawdropping - all of it.
Most songs that anybody wants to hear on youtube are just there and sufficient for the music fix the listener needs.
But this album is different.
You'll find this album translated from youtube will bear you some relief, but just not good enough for your listening pleasure. I am pretty sure that for most, they'll end up wanting the best remastered CD of it available.
I bought 2 Klaatu albums on a trip to Boston in the 70s and I played them to death until I lost them in a burglary. Haven't heard this for 30 years or more, but still just air-conducted the orchestra! LOVE IT. I will be getting the remastered version today! If not sooner. Like many, I never knew who was in the band- but was and am in awe of the talent.
For some time the CD of Hope was out of print. It was released by the now long since defunct Attic Records of Canada.
It remains a cult-classic album with a newer (2002) remastering that anyone interested in getting the best version should own.
While ELP, ELO, Alan Parsons, Moody Blues etc. have experimented extensively with these ideas in their own right - Hope stands alone as project of considerable depth captivating the listener from beginning to end.
This is an incredible song, varied and complex, but the best part is the anthem. If only more people had been exposed to this. Long live Politzania!!!
Childhood memories, heard this a lot at home as a kid and loved it even though I didnt understand the lyrics and didnt have the ear for music I have now.
But in 30 years time, this piece of music still doesnt bore me. Absolutely brilliant.
Cembalo, violins and electric guitars - really cool!. You describe the stages of the fall of our world in one sound. The happy tunes (carelesness) along with canons and overdrive guitars (desperation)!
CANADA - 1977 - LP "Hope"
Merci Denis :o)

@MisterEvasion Funny you should say that! They were remastered in 2005 and sound INCREDIBLE!! Amazing sound from an amazing, 'undiscovered' band!
This song and Around The Universe in 80 Days are so, so visual - put on your headphones (or earbuds), close your eyes and listen at 4:20!!!

This album gives me loads of idea for science fiction stories. Hopefully have one in the cinema in the next couple of years.
