i always wondered what chevy was gonna do about the cobras...love the cobras but i am impressed and kind of sad that it wasnt raced very long. Serious battles would of took place...and i think Ferrari would be so pissed that us Americans would be taking 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and 6th place every race.
it wasted the Cobra in every race. The factory "mysteriously" burned to the ground. Probably cry baby Shelby or Ford, they didnt like an "all American" car kicking his English car's ass with a Ford engine in it.

@1988montecarloss No kidding. All the C3 and C4 corvettes sitting around, you'd think they'd jump all over that stock of cheap donor cars for a kit that would obviously sell. Perhaps since the body chassis, and engine is all GM developed vs. the Cobra being an MG body and Chassis and Ford derived engine makes it more risky to copy.
The Cobra was a kit car from day 1, this was a purpose made car designed and built from scratch.
@leloodallasmultipass This is true, but that's just the starting bid for an auction. FFR builds kits anyway so they don't need anything but the body, everything else they'd develop from the ground up since they don't even do replica chassis. Sad as it is, I don't think FFR has the money for that, they are knee-deep in developing thier subaru based kit at the moment.
That's not a bad deal though. Go in 50/50 with me?
@BrandoWRX VERY tempting. this time next year I might be able to do it, but right now... too much going on. actually, they tried to sell before and the reserve was not met. it IS possible that this could happen again so maybe it will be available next year.
I am waiting to see what FFR does with the 818 design... if it looks anything like the winner's rendering, I won't be buying. the mid-scoobie idea is flawless, though. I really hope they pull it off. otherwise, locost for me.
This car is so HARD ROCK, i love it. NO driveshaft gearbox attached direct to diff...& it disliked having doors so much it blew them off!...jesus lord.
I have a funny feeling my uncle had this car as a scalextrix in the 70's or did I see it in a popular mechanics mag i used to borrow from the library as a kid? either way it's a rocketship...it's actually more exciting to look at than a same era Ferrari.
@xcracer2008 I like Chevy, and your Mustang dick sucking, holier than thou, single-minded and fact selective attitude is SHIT! So, how about YOU STFU! Go prove it on the track somewhere, hotshot! ,,|,,
@xcracer2008 what dont you get about shut up ?,it means stop acting like you know everything when clearly you dont , your only making yourself look like an even bigger idiot, the difference between you and a poser is nothing.get back to me when you have been pulling wrenches for 20 years, p.s im not 27
Yes, in a lot of ways Chevy starved racing teams then, and it's interesting that Cheetahs came up short in numbers and money backing and Jim Hall with a totally unconventional approach could be successful. Fascinating!
I think I saw this exact car at a car show at the Dreher Park Zoo in WPB FL,they used to put on an awesome show,it was also the first time I saw a Lamborghini LM
10mak...Support wasn't withdrawn becasue of handling. GM pulled out of almost everything including NASCAR. Even Smokey Yunnick had to survive with personal contacts within Chevrolet. The government was on their backs as a near monopoply and threatening to do to them what they had done to AT &T. The theme song around GM then was, "We don't race and we don;t win, 'casue racing is a mortal sin." There were problems with rigidity but they got fixed after a quick review and about 30 inches were added
Fantastic footage of my favourite car, thanks for posting this. Shame that the narrator thinks it's a Bill Thompson Cheetah rather than a Bill Thomas Cheetah but you can't have everything!
@richuar He (narrator) also stated great handling which isn't correct. In fact I think that because of the lack of torsional rigidity which caused erratic handling as determined by Chevrolet on their skid pad was probably why support was pulled.
Also the production numbers stated here (27) look high. I thought only 16 were produced.
@10mak01 You're quite right 27 is a bit of an overestimate, the car in this video is chassis number 16 and supposed to be the last built by Thomas. Yeh the handling was apparently most diplomatically described as "interesting", I'll stick to my slot car Cheetahs, not quite the same noise but less scary on the track!

@LordSamuelJ not really just a bunch of idiot big wigs running GM and not letting people like Zora develop more into racing
zman6033 1 month ago
@LordSamuelJ Maybe, but Cheetahs would be worth alot more due to their rarity (and thats coming from a Ford guy). I love the looks of these cars...
