Thanks for posting this . Hopefully people will look at it and feel the spirit of this great man and not believe the mess people put on youtube about us.
I'm curious what the doctrinal differences there are between the Gospels & the book of Mormon.
My issue with Mormonism (of what I know) is the forced & expected tithing. (Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing). Also, I do not agree with polygamy. I know it is controversial, but I believe in "husband and wife" "becoming one". (not multiple) Because Jesus himself made and drank wine I do not see how wine can be banned. Other than those things, what is the difference?
The Book of Mormon not only harmonizes with the Bible, part of its function is to testify to the world of The Bible's message. The LDS canon magnify it and restore lost truths to it. As to the NWT, before you give it any credit, compare the JW purple Interlinear of the New testament to a reputable interlinear text. They did more than insert Jehovah... And neither the society or the translator claimed revelation from GOD was involved in it. Joseph Smith Did. "Well There's Your Problem" :)
So who then is to give the correct interpretation of the Bible? You? Me? A pastor or priest? The fact remains that there is tremendous confusion in Christianity because of it. The Bible's message is interpreted differently by all the Christian sects.
Thus the need for authority, Thus the need for a prophet to end the confusion under the direction of the Lord. Because He (the Lord) surely knew how His word is to be interpreted!
In the different translations I've seen, there are often more than "marginal differences."
"The bibles message always stays the same." Well, it depends on who you ask, right? If it weren't so, there wouldn't be thousands of different Christian sects. All believe the message is a little bit different than others.
If a prophet of God can clarify passages to take away some of that confusion, amen to that.
Our faith is not based on others' testimony. I think that's what the confusion is. In fact, we are taught NOT to rely on others testimonies (e.g. our parents), but rather to seek out truth for ourselves. To pray and ask God if it is true after careful study. God can answer those prayers, through His Spirit, and that is how we can gain a testimony for ourselves of Jesus Christ and His gospel.
Well that's actually the 8th article of faith. :) In all seriousness though, don't you think that the translation of the Bible is important. There are dozens and dozens of translations now--some with significant differences. This example isn't meant to put any religion down, but as an example, would you be fine using only the Jehovah's Witnesses version of the Bible?
Obviously I disagree that the D&C and the Bible don't harmonize, because I think they do.
You can try to twist my words all you like--I've seen from your videos that's what you like to do. I trust the Bible, I trust the Book of Mormon, and above all, I trust God.
Of course I'm not fighting the Bible. I love the Bible, I cherish the Bible.
Your point was ALL that we have is testimony, and I agree, that is all we have-that's what the Bible is.
The gospels are describing personal witnesses of Jesus Christ. It's a 2000 year old testimony of Him.
In YOUR attempt to discredit testimony, you discredit the Bible--that's my point. I believe testimony and faith are true, are valid, and are the ways that God can bless us. That is why I love the Bible.
And what "evidence" do you have of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ? The writings of men in the Bible--wait, those are just "testimonies", so you must have other evidence that you are sure of to "prove" such a defining moment in Christianity?
I believe that God can reveal truth through the Holy Spirit (John 14:26) to prophets, to apostles, and to you and me if we seek with a pure heart. It is also only by faith that one could believe that Jesus is the Christ.
