Not sure what people aren't getting about this. Ra was always Ra. Seems like everybody wants Monk to be this sacred Monk thing; Ra didn't do that. Ra was always Ra, and that's why this is is great.
ugh this would b good but theres wayy 2 much goin on... the musicians cant/arent listening 2 each other. plus that keyboard is really annoying, and whatever is making that squeaking sound just irritates my ears
Yeah, I really do like Sun Ra, his various bands, his music, and his record covers. But sometimes he went off the deep end, that's all! But, when he was "on", he was on league with Ellington & Mingus (well, almost), and some of his more unusual or rhythmic oriented pieces were on par with the wonderful Moondog. His later funky stuff was George Clinton if he didn't want to sell merchandise. But the far out spacey stuff was like The Dead's "Dark Star" on a bad night (even if Ra maybe did it first)
