  • i dont really understand why people need to buy mp3 players when u can buy a nokia xpressMusic and use it as mp3 and phone (and also u can acces a memory card without installing a software (as 2wireg says)

  • @sasafeda For me personally, it's the fact that I can listen to music or watch videos without fear that I'm draining the battery on my phone. When I travel, I need to have my phone with plenty of charge.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia logical, but u can have a car charger or usb charger

  • I PODS are so friggen annoying to use man espcially doing something simple as putting music on it pisses me right off i tunes is CRAP and im forced to download another file because when i plug in the crap pod it doesnt show up in my computer as a removable disc....when you plug this in your pc and go to my computer does it show up as a removable disc?? thanks for your time and the great vid

  • No, the Zune does not show up as a removable drive - you need to install the Zune software to move content to and from it. The software is really nice though, much better than iTunes.

    - Jason

  • I dont think the zune software is better, because they dont have movies or alot of music compared to itunes but it is easier to put stuff on.

  • i feel your pain out Itunes and Apple, i now use Winamp to sync my Ipod, i kinda wish i bought a Zune or somethin. Winamp sees your Ipod, but you have to change all your Song titles, like, i have alot of the Artist name in Title. but o well, you can also sync your videos but Winamp doesnt give you the Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos etc filters.

  • @2WIREG it only means you have a gay shit PC, get a new one

  • Comment removed

  • @2WIREG wow you havbe problems in your head kid go home and cry do your mommy to get you a ZUNE HD, retarded 14 year old Emo kid

  • @Alestor10 ? wow ur comment was so stupid........ grow some balls and then start posting shit on youtube. otherwise, ur just making urself look dumber and dumber "14 year old emo kid" come on man this isn't 3rd grade u moron

  • Scince my whole Family Owns a Zune Whoo hoo! Im Dying to hear more News About the New Zune HD!!!!!!

  • 60 minutes after I get my hands on a Zune HD, you'll probably see a video about it here, so subscribe to my channel. :-)

    - Jason

  • Sure! I would love to Subscribe!

  • can you surf the internet on the zune?

  • No, it doesn't have a Web browser. The Zune HD will have a Web browser.

    - Jason

  • another question:

When you bought ur zune in Canada, did u get free zune pass or not?

  • The Zune Marketplace STILL isn't available to Canadians, so no, there's no Zune Pass for us here. :-(

    - Jason

  • just go to your computer settings and claim to be in America

  • JUST AN SIDE NOTE TO ALL THE PEOPLE WATCHING THIS VID:

ZUNE HD IS COMING!!! W00t..i may just get that one..ill try to hold my desire to buy a zune right now -_-

  • Yup, the Zune HD was confirmed last night. Please check out Zune Thoughts for my story with all the details...

    - Jason

  • u dont need to reply on this one...Thank You for answering back..and im happy that ive finally found a reliable youtuber...especially when it comes to zune =D

  • Question about Zunes:

1)Im planning on getting the ipod nano or the new ipod shuffle..but i think i prefer zune over them...which one shud i get the 8gb, 16, 4 etc?

2)I downloaded the software..but the buy music option doesn't seem to work...when i click on zune pts..nope. I'm from Canada btw so does that have anything to do with that?

3)Lets say i already have my zune and zune software really dont work, can i just buy off itunes and use my zune software to transfer my music to my zune?

  • 1) It depends on your budget. Can you afford the 16 GB? Do you have enough music/photos/videos to fill it? Then that's the one to get.

    2) Go to Zune Thoughts (link is in the sidebar) and look at the Featured Article called "An International Zune User's Guide" and you'll have all your answers. I'm in Canada as well.

    3) Yes, the Zune can play non-DRM protected AAC files, which is what you buy from iTunes now (I think they're 100% DRM-free now).

    - Jason

  • hahahah this isnt touch screen hahaha the zune SUCK!!! ipod touch's rule!!!!!!!

  • Haha the iPod Touch can't store 120 GB of music/videos/photos Haha the iPod Touch suck haha Zune rule!!!

That looks pretty stupid when you see someone says it back to you, doesn't it? The iPod Touch and Zune 80/120 are completely different solutions - people buying the Zune 80/120 are buying it because they want to store a lot of stuff on it...and that's not something that the iPod Touch can do. The Zune can't do what the iPod Touch can do either - browse the Web, download games, etc.

    - Jason

  • 16 Mb key...lol...just downloaded the software today and it was 135 Mb

  • This video was posted a year ago - things change.

    - Jason

  • how easy does the zune scratch, do you NEED a case like you do an ipod...im liking the zune but alot of cases dont look very good

  • The Zune is quite tough. I've never used a case for any of mine - the Zune 30, Zune 8, Zune 80 - and they all still look great. They're 500% less scratch-prone then those silly iPods. ;-)

    - Jason

  • Eek! 4:44

    *Slides Zune across table*

    Have you gone mad?!

    lol ouch

  • The shooting table I use is very soft plastic - no Zunes were harmed in the making of this video. ;-)

    - Jason

  • Lol you kind of sound like my last year's Albebra teacher.

  • Looks like someone didn't listen to his English teacher :3

  • the thing u said "the best of both worlds" sounds familar

    really

  • I'm not trying to sound like a jerk or anything, but you need to work on the lighting in your videos.

At certain points it was hard to see the screen and Zunes. The Zunes are darker colors and the backgound is white.

Anywho, thanks for uploading this. I found it really helpful and I plan on buying a Zune as my next mp3 player.

  • It's OK, I appreciate constructive criticism. This video is almost two years old, so I've had more practice since then. :-) Check out one of my newer videos where I have a different camera, and different encoding of the videos - I think you'll find the quality to be significantly better even though the lighting hasn't changed.

    - Jason

  • So when does your Zune just run out of power? I ran a test and it lasted well beyond 6 hours. I guess I touch the pad too much during use.

  • I've never been able to use it long enough for music to have it run out of power. Video is much harder on the battery of course and I've seen it die after about 4 hours of use total, but it varies. If you're listening to music and using the screen a lot, yeah, it's not going to last as long. Charge it fully and run a test and see how long it lasts only playing music...I bet you it's more than six hours.

    - Jason

  • After about 3 hours of uninterrupted playing the music stops, but the bar barely drops, so it must have been the touching the pad.

  • Question about battery: My zune gets to about 1/5 of the bar and then automatically shuts down. It is really hard to gauge how much power I have left. Does yours do the same?

I get about 6 hours in 1 charge for music.

  • Nope, mine doesn't do that, and I definitely get more than six hours of music out of it - seems like you might have a defective Zune. If it's still under warranty, call Zune tech support and report the issue.

    - Jason

  • Say you have had the $15 a month plan for 5 months and you want to cancel, they take away all the songs you downloaded?

  • Yes, that's correct. If they didn't do that, people would sign up for a month, download thousands of songs, then cancel their subscription. Not a very good business model, is it? However, here's one really nice thing: each month you get 10 song credits that can be used to permanently buy the songs. So basically you get 10 free songs a month keep, and you're paying $5 for the subscription part. It's pretty sweet!

    - Jason

  • Then they force you to pay $15 more for the Zune adapter software :P

Subscriptions are not very good imo :\

I wish someone would open up a company and sell songs for 25 cents ea :D

  • Zune adapter software? I'm not sure what you're referring to, but the Zune desktop software is free. You can rip your CDs and put your own music on the Zune, free. Nobody "forces" you to pay $15 for the Zune Pass - it's completely optional.

    - Jason

  • Oh, I thought you had to have the Zune Pass to put songs on your Zune =o

I guess I got things mixed up. Thanks for clearing that up :]

What does the Zune Pass do?

  • The Zune Pass is unlimited access to all the music in the Zune library. All you can download, all you can listen to.

    - Jason

  • Unlimited access to just a few songs in Zune library... wow.. nice.

  • hows the zune sotre. does it have a lot of music and videos like itunes???????

  • It's quite good, but it's USA-only.

    - Jason

  • you need software to put stuff on the zune? wtf? i can't just put videos/ music/ pictures from my computer straight onto the device?

and what kind of music/ video/ picture files can it recognise?

  • Yeah, unfortunately the Zune isn't a mass-storage device that you can just push stuff onto - you need to use the Zune software to load it up. It can read MP3, ACC, WMA for audio, WMV and MPEG4/h.264 for video, and JPEGs for photos.

    - Jason

  • if it can read all that stuff then what happens if i just copy paste the stuff straight onto the zune. have you tried it? what happened?

  • Copy and paste? Via what mechanism? The Zune isn't a removable storage device remember...

    - Jason

  • zune all the way!

  • kmart had the zune for the entirety of 2008 and they sat there collecting dust, the ipods we couldn't keep on the shelves. eventually we just discontinued carrying the zune altogether. and mind you this is with it's own endcap and massive billboards/signs to let everyone know. the ipod had no advertisements in-store at all and was selling like hotcakes

  • i'm not saying there is anything wrong with zune.but if i tell anyone that i have a zune at school they will have no idea what i'm talking about.and do you have to call a number or something bcuz i don't see a zune at any stores not even best buy

  • In terms of retail stores in the USA, the Zune should be in Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, and a few other stores. They're sold online at Amazon and many other stores.

    - Jason

  • Can you please explain the music store? is it unlimited downloads per month? Or is it 15$ a month for a certain amount of downloads then $1 a song each? The zune website is a little misleading

  • You can buy music in the Zune Marketplace just like iTunes, one song or one album at a time. Or you can subscribe to the Zune Pass if you live in the USA, which is $15/month, and you can download as much music as you want. You get 10 credits a month to spend on music to keep as well, so if you cancel your Zune Pass, you'll get to keep the music that you bought with these credits.

    - Jason

  • can you play games on it??

  • Yes, the v3 firmware (which is free) adds a few games to it.

    - Jason

  • Almost makes me want to give up on ipods. I like how you don't have to go around in circles.

i don't like how it needs to load though.

  • *&@#(@ing YouTube didn't post my comment. Grrr. Anyway, what do you mean "needs to load". Do you mean the full boot up? That only happens if the device has been turned off for 24+ hours. Otherwise it just resumes from standby, and quite quickly.

    - Jason

  • Its a good review.

But come on...Ipod interface a little bit difficult to use?...are you serious?..i dont even have an ipod touch or iphone or whatever. Just tested my ipod's friend its hella easy to use.

  • The iPod Touch and iPhone are quite easy to use, but if you've never picked up an iPod before, the twitchy scroll wheel is irritating. And the UI on the iPod Nano and Classic is pretty lame - I'm sure I can find and play things faster on my Zune than on any iPod.

    - Jason

  • That's great to hear! Enjoy it! :-)

    - Jason

  • i got the new zune 120, way better then the ipod

  • 16mb is too small for softwares, cause the zune software takes about 45 MB

  • Would you like to re-post your question using English that makes sense?

    - Jason

  • Hey great video jason! You have given me many things to think about.. but i will probably buy a zune! thanks again!

  • I'm glad I could help. :-)

    - Jason

  • for zune music player, do you just pay $14 a month and you can download as many songs as you want, and put those songs on your zune?

  • The Zune can either be loaded up with your own music, or the Zune Pass ($15/month), or a combination of the two. The Zune Pass lets you keep up to 10 songs per month, so it's kind of like only having to pay $5/month for the subscription service. Pretty sweet!

    - Jason

  • What shade of red is the red zune?

  • Shade is kind of hard to describe...but it's a fairly deep red, not a bright cherry red. It's not a "dark" red though. Check out the photos online and you'll see for yourself. :-)

    - Jason

  • ipod nano 4G is better

  • Better for who, you? Cool. Better for me? No, not at all. Buy what you want and I'll do the same ok?

    - Jason

  • Yo, Jason. Don't you just hate people that go to your videos and talk about how the iPod Touch it much better than the Zune? Man, stupid, stupid people.

  • Yes, it's rather irritating - but I can't figure out why iPod owners are watching Zune videos...if you like your iPod, cool, go enjoy it. Why come here and bitch about a product you don't even own? It's very lame.

    - Jason

  • Does Microsoft think we are blind are something?

  • I don't know if you're blind, but you are vague. Are you referring to the physical hardware design of the 2nd Gen Zune?

    - Jason

  • No, software design, I mean, why did they make that font so big? They could better have gone with a smaller font so it could fit on the screen. That would be a bit nicer, at least, I think so... ^.^

  • The v1 font was much smaller, and they made it bigger for v2. I personally prefer the bigger font, but you're not alone in preferring the smaller one. You can't please everyone I guess. :-)

    - Jason

  • I don't like it if it's too small too, but I think this is a bit too large. Too small, too large, they should have made it just right: so it fits in the screen.

  • ipod touch completley owns any zune

  • Oh yeah? Please tell me how I could cram 120 GB worth of content for $234 - the cost of a Zune 120 - into a 32 GB iPod Touch, which costs $369, 57% more than the Zune? Look, the iPod Touch is a PDA more than anything else - apps, games, Web browsing, etc. If that's what you want, cool, buy one. But if you're looking for a media player first and foremost, and need a lot of storage, the Zune and the iPod Touch don't compare to each other.

    - Jason

  • yeah, zunes are better for poor people who like to carry around bricks that hold their music! apps, games, web browsing, music, video, and more is in the sleek curved ultra thin ipod! unless your poor, and like brics, i still go for the ipod 100%!

  • Your profile says you're 13 years old, so I'm going to be nice here because verbally beating up a kid isn't something I like doing: different people want different things, so if you like your iPod Touch, great, but don't assume that what you want is the same as what I or anyone else wants. I like the hardware design of the iPod Touch a lot, but I hate iTunes, so I don't want to purchase an iPod. That's why the Zune makes sense to me. Buy what you want.

    - Jason

  • Zune is a good MP4 player. iPod touch is an overhyped device created by Apple who has never made anything that was actually good ever. It's not that big. It's not a brick. An 80 gig Zune 2 is 5.6 ounces, less than 3/8 of a pound. How weak are you that you can't carry it around? It's not that big either. So apparently you are insanely weak and have minuscule hands and only like MP4 players that do 9000000 other things and are basically small, crappy computers that crash constantly. Good for you.

  • true :), i gotan iphone

  • yea i got my zune and it needs a software i downloaded it it said error wat should i do?

  • Phone Zune tech support and get professional help: 1-877-438-9863.

    - Jason

  • I bought the Zune 120 Gb version and on the 3rd day i got an error with it, looked it up and it says Device Cannot Start (Code 10), it ran fine and i really enjoyed it on the first 2 days but on the 3rd it was a nightmare to try to repair it, but still i couldnt repair it=(, any suggestions plz

  • My suggestion is to phone Zune tech support: 1-877-438-9863.

    - Jason

  • how do u charge it?

  • With the included USB cable, just like basically every other MP3 player and phone on the planet.

    - Jason

  • this is kind of a stupid question but can u take vids and music from the xbox 2 the zune?

  • That's not a stupid question at all - you'd think that they'd work together, wouldn't you? They don't - you can't move anything from the Xbox to the Zune.

    - Jason

  • question, im getting a zune 4gig soon, can you drag music from itunes to the zune?

  • it will automatically transfer the songs to the zune

  • No, the Zune doesn't work with iTunes. You need to use the Zune desktop software to manage the Zune. If your iTunes songs are not FairPlay protected (the Apple DRM) then the Zune can play the AAC files.

    - Jason

  • I got a question if anyone can help me. I hate my ipod so much... Can you just drag music to the zune from other peoples computer and your own without a program like the ipod uses? I hate the ipod program... I want to be free again... haha... Please let me know... I want to buy it if thats a case

  • No, the Zune doesn't mount as a portable hard drive - you need to use the Zune desktop software to move stuff to and from it. You want something that mounts as a removable storage drive, and no Zune can do that currently.

    - Jason

  • good job

  • yea im going to get a zune and get rid of my ipod. My friend showed me this......WAY better than a ipod

  • hey will the old usb cable work on the new zune?

  • Yes, they didn't change the port, so the V1 cables, chargers, etc. still work.

    - Jason

  • on the zune 30 is the screen bigger than the zune 80 or is the zune 80 screen bigger than the zune 30 or r they the same size

  • The Zune 30 has a three inch screen, the Zune 80 has a 3.2 inch screen. Both facts are available many places online...

    - Jason

  • ok thanks i am thinking bout getting the zune 80

  • finally ppl are talking bout the zune, not the ipod

  • you know you can put pictures on you backround it is awesome

  • i like how u can put ur own pics on the zune instead of a ugly bg

  • Hey man thanks for this rating series, I really appreciate it :D I bought an 8gb Ipod Nano 4g (the newest one) the other day and it was fantastic, but the curved screen is so annoying, and the buttons feel so fragile. Also, I'm not digging the way Apple rereleases their nanos every year, makes it hard when I'm trying to buy a protective case, and by the time I find one, my nano is "out of style." Well screw those elitist jerks, I'm returning my nano for a black 8gb zune.

  • do a video on you ipod just to see how they look

  • is the reselution good?

  • Very good

  • After you done that. all music you add to the created folder will be put on ur Zune collection.

The same can be done videos and pictures.

  • Hey some people been asking how can you get music to your zune with the software without having to buy the music from the marketplace.

    The simplest way is this

    ____________________________

First you will need to create a new folder somewhere you can find it. I chose Zune music on my desktop.

Then you need start up the Zune Software, and click settings on the top right corner.

Under music remove all folders from the list.

Then click browse and find and select the folder you made.

  • the only thing i don't like about the zune is those big words in the screen, but i don't know wat to buy, the zune r i pod nano tommrow.

and zune holds wmv files which is good cuz it doens't take musch space like the mp3 files types,

  • It bothers me to touch the middle of the pad...i like the 30 gig more idk why??

  • you can disable the touch so if you prefer clicking more than sliding your thumb up and down then you can do that.

  • my 80 came with music and videos and pictures . hahahaha

  • They all do. What's so funny about that? :-)

    - Jason

  • Could anyone tell me when does it comes to Europe.because i m bying this all the way.

  • There's no word yet on when it will come to Europe...hopefully this year, but who knows. The Zune team is moving very, very slowly. :-(

    - Jason

  • is there any fake zunes that is out today??

  • What are you talking about? Fake Zunes?

    - Jason

  • i think he means like they look like zunes but they are like knockoffs and all...

  • i got a zune 30 for christmas last year... im upgrading to an 80 for this chrsitmas.. i want that wheel

  • I want one so badly! Yo Microsoft - release the zune in Australia!!! This is *the* player for me

  • om actully that software for the picture stuff make a folder and save it to zunes home thingy or just drag and drop!! =)

  • i just got my new zune 3 days ago for my birthday.

    its awsome.

    80G-black

    5/5

  • I too Got a Zune for my birthday a couple of weeks ago it is amazing way better than ipod

  • My creative Zen broke so Im trying to decide what player to buy next: Zune 8/4 Samsung YP-T10

    can u help me?

  • Sure. Buy a Zune! :-)

    - Jason

  • just one question. Is there anything else different between the Zune 4/8GB and the Zune 80GB aside from the space and the screen?

  • The only other difference is that the Zune 4/8 doesn't do video out over a cable. That's it.

    - Jason

  • Thank you so much for making so much video tutorials for the Zune. I am planning to get one, and I have this thing where when I want to buy something I really like, I research all about it, to find out all the good things and the bad things about it, so I won't be making any mistakes by buying something that doesn't even work. Your videos explained a lot, and I can't be more grateful.

  • Yup! That's what I do too.

  • I'm glad I could assist you - thanks for watching. If you like my videos, please subscribe and rate them. Thanks!

    - Jason

  • Zune 2 UI seems to be a big improvement over the past generation. I prefer the flash-based model

  • BEA-UTIFUL. I can't wait to get mine.

  • OK, in the unboxing video, you pulle dout a MS CD and said somethign like, "...and here is the zune software..."

and now you said that it doesn't actually come with software???

    Care to elaborate on that?

I'm actually considering buying a zune and selling my 30G iPod, because I can't handle how ridiculously STUPID itunes is.

  • They gave me a copy of the software on a burned CD because it was a review prior to the release of the product. You can download the same software from zune *dot* net.

    - Jason

  • can zune work on mac computers

  • No, it can't - it only runs on Windows. If you run Windows on your Mac, via Boot Camp or via Parallels, then you can use the Zune..

    - Jason

  • what do you mean by flash based?

  • It's flash memory. Not a harddrive. Flash memory takes less space, but can't be as big as harddrives.

  • hey how do you put movies on to it i need help

  • Point the Zune software at the folder that has your movies, then drag > drop onto the Zune. Check out the official Zune forums for more help, or stop by Zune Thoughts and ask questions.

    - Jason

  • I bought an entire season of a TV show from iTunes. If I get a zune, I for sure wont be ale to put those on a zune?

Does the Zune shop have vids for purchase?

  • Unfortunately that TV show season you bought will only work on an iPod - that's how they get you to stay with their hardware, they make their content only work on their players. The Zune marketplace has music videos for purchase so far, but not TV shows. Hopefully soon...

    - Jason

  • God, those bastards.

I seriously am thinking about selling my 30G and getting a 30G Zune.

Any recommendations of wheres the best place to get them?

    I live in Seattle.

  • Yeah, DRM sucks - but to be fair, the Zune does the same thing with its music videos - the video you buy has DRM on it and wouldn't work on an iPod. DRM is just horrible and best avoided.

Regarding where to buy a Zune, it varies - most retail stores (Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.) will have the same or similar prices. I'd encourage you to check out the Zune 80 though instead of the Zune 30 - the hardware is SO much nicer...

    - Jason

  • Is it like, WAY more pricey?

    What's better about it?

I mean, I know it's the new version and all, but what makes it so much better?

I don't even think I could ever fill that up even if I tried...

But I was considering it, since I don't want a huge BRICK in my pocket when I could use the same size (in gigs) iPod.

It's just that iTunes totally refuses to work all together now...

so hopefully I'll be able to get a zune.

  • The MSRP retail is $249. The hardware is quite a bit thinner, the screen is a bit bigger, it has the Zune pad (the touch pad), and it just generally feels better in your hand. Don't be afraid of the 80 GB capacity, buy the better hardware. ;-)

    - Jason

  • Hmm...this definetaly makes me want one.

    Your a pretty convincing dude.

Can you trade songs around with other zunes, no matter what kind they have, and then keep those songs on your Zune forever?

Or is there some kind of limit on the song or picture someone sends you?

  • Yes, you can trade songs with other Zunes - I haven't tried sending a song from a new Zune to an old Zune with the old firmware, but most people will be running the latest firmware (it's hard to avoid updating). The songs you send to another Zune will last for three plays - as in, you can listen to each song three times before they time out, but that could take months. Pictures are kept forever and can be moved off the Zune onto your PC.

    - Jason

  • You can only listen to that song three times?

Then what? It's just gone forever?

You can't run home to your computer and quickly to try sync it to your computer?

  • That's correct - it times out and then is removed from your Zune the next time you sync it. The idea of song sharing is to allow friends to send each other music to check out, and after three plays you know if you like something or not, and you can then buy it (or not). You have to keep in mind here that Microsoft would never release a product that would encourage blatant piracy. ;-)

    - Jason

  • Ahhh...good point.

    :D

    Thanks for all your help.

I can't wait to try and get my hands on one of these things!

  • You're quite welcome. I'd encourage you to stop by Zune Thoughts and join our community once you get your Zune (or before)! :-)

    - Jason

  • I shall.

I noticed your last name is Dunn.

    Any relation to Ryan Dunn?

  • Wow, you check your email fast like I do. ;-) No relation to Ryan Dunn - there are a lot of Dunn's in the world, just check your local phone book (most people don't realize how common my last name is).

    - Jason

  • Haha, just had to check.

I'm a big fan of Ryan Dunn.

    Thanks again.

    :D

  • You can listen to the song three times, or it will last three days on the zune :(

  • No, that's changed with v2: it's not three plays, but unlimited days. So that's pretty reasonable I think!

    - Jason

  • i wonder if zune takes ipod format videos...

i know it supports ipod format songs

  • yeah it does
