@karlstade Nah, Kraftwerks version is unique, and the Rammstein version is a cover. In my opinion, but I think my opinion is correct and yours is wrong :-)
If you read Wolfgang Flurs book; 'I was a robot', he states that the 'Korrekt' part was infact not said by Ralf. It was said by a man (A waiter I think) the group knew quite well. Becuase everytime the man saw the group he would greet them with "Hallochen, Seckt? Korrrrekt" (I don't know what it means in German) He apparently loved selling champagne to guests who came often...So the group asked him to say it for this song.
Rammstein has many influences from different bands including the ones that some of the members previously came from. When a band does a cover, they are not trying to inult the original creator of the song, they like the song enough to do it in their own style, its a tribute, nothing more, for that reason and the fact that Rammstein is my favorite band, I enjoy the Rammstein version more, that and I also like the newer styles of music versus the older
You are being very naive. Doing covers of popular songs are first and foremost a cheap and easy way to secure income.Sure, you can always call it "paying tribute" to the original, but in the end, if there would be any kind of respect for the original work, you wouldn't want to change it. You like the Rammstein version more, because it appeals to your "modern" music tastes. Which exactly proves the point I am making.
@porcorosso81 You said that Till did the cover to secure his income... Do you really think that Rammstein ever needed to do a cover to secure an income? No. They did pay it tribute. They released a musik video that gets the true point of this song across than lyrics alone ever will. Rammstein band is getting close to 20 years old and takes after even older bands so do not call it a modern style as though it just came into being.
Look, you insist on calling covers an "homage", I play the devil's advocate and say: most covers are parasitic because they are set out to remake popular songs, and therefore are set out to replicate a formula proven to be succesful.
Call it "modern" or "newer styles of music" like you did, I think you get my point. ;)
Besides, I never made any statement about Rammstein in general or any other of their songs. Just this one here which was covered by them.
i love the keybord. when was 6 i had a game and in 2room it were playing the keybord sound, and its first now i have found the song, and im 14years old now.
@DSHPD I think it's a great shtick, one guy looks pissed to be up there. The others refuse to look in the camera, the singer looks like he's on H. They are the robots right? -or is it us?
I think the Rammstein cover totally misses the point of the original. Through the use of electronic music, the listener is embedded into a cool, dispassionate atmosphere, highlighting the dehumanization of a female who is only judged and succesful by selling her looks (and probably herself?). It's a comment on pop and commercialism, how it turns us all into robots. The Rammstein version is exactly that: a commercial product for people who like to bang their heads.
You do realize that you just confirmed my point? Sex sells. A Model is selling her body. Rammstein is selling the remake by emphasising the sexual aspects. The point of the original Kraftwerk version however is emphasizing the process of DEHUMANIZATION when a human being is reduced to her looks. You do know that "The Model" is part of the Kraftwerk Album "The Man Machine" also containing the song "We are the Robots"?
Has nothing to do with stupid labels like "old" and "new".
And why electronic? Isn't this obvious? It's a contrast between the subject matter (a sexy model) and the mechanics of how the human brain reacts to looks, our instincts turning us into robots.
It also goes along with the dispassionate way the lyrics are spoken.
You people all forget that this song is from 1977, the era of disco songs. This here is pure anti-commercialism, while the Rammstein version is exactly that: a commercial product for people who like to bang heads.
@porcorosso81 I like both version of the song. But both songs are totally different, because Rammstein plays with the words (like "Du hast" ... in german: "Du ... Du ha(s)t ... Du has(s)t mich ... Du hast mich gefragt and in english doesnt work this constallation of this word because - "You ... You haVe/haTe ... You have/hate me ... You have asked me". And Kraftwerk plays with the instruments.
@porcorosso81 i beg you to take into consideration that Rammstein version is still valuable as far as the message is concerned, as they put the lyrics into a frenetic hammering rhythm, which is dehumanizing and alienating as well.
i like this version more than rammstein's though.
@porcorosso81 Not true, Rammstein just covered a song, which influenced them in their style of music. You wouldn't believe how many of the Rammstein songs are actually poetic and have a deeper meaning.
The Rammstein version makes it's own point. How everyone looks at the model in a sexist way, in a way that everyone wants her because she is famous and "beautiful" ... that is what a cover is about! Making your own point ... ;)
Um, that's exactly the point the original was making. If there was any intention other than "let's cash in on a popular Kraftwerk song", then I am afraid that the Rammstein version adds nothing new. On the contrary, it turns exactly into the kind of pulp that Kraftwerk was critizising.
@porcorosso81 But the focus of the original is rather the robot like "worship" of the model by the masses because of what the media tells them to believe! The focus lies on the media telling the people what to believe.
In the Rammstein version it's the same "theme" seen from a different angle. We have an individual in the masses, apart from the robot-like- "followers" who plainly see's the model from a very sexist point of view, longing to "own" the model. The focus is in the sexual tension!
What exactly is not sexual/sexist about "Ich nähm sie heut gerne mit zu mir nach Haus" ? Isn't this also the desire of ownership and sexual tension? Again, the Rammstein cover adds nothing new the original already has. Instead, it eradicates most of its subtle points, especially the coldness and cynicism. But I guess I am starting to repeat myself.
it is sexual, obviously, but i don't think that it is sexistic. I mean, what is wrong with having sex with a model? :D
I think that: "Sie stellt sich zur schau für das Konsumprodukt und wird von Millionen Augen angeguckt" is way more sexistic because it puts "the model" into a very female role, wich, by the way, she chooses for herself, I guess, so there is nothing wrong with that either.
although, must add I don't see Rammstein's version as a commercial thing, rather as a "hommage" due to the Kraftwerk . Their version isn't bad at all, just coming from another time, and sounding like that.
@wwwsandro To add my 2 cents worth to the Rammstein cover debate: For me Rammstein was always about German cliches and taking them "over the top". As such I think this song was a good choice to cover, as it is not only one of the most widely known German songs internationally, but it also embodies the kind of "cold" and "effective" vibe that is often attributed to Germans. Rammstein added their own agressive and militaristic style to that, and I think it works quite well.
@porcorosso81 rammstein version of das modell is better then this...they dont covered in for commerce...they have other really good songs....they needn´t das modell for more fans and money.... :)
It doesn't matter if they "needed" to cover Das Model, or if they have other good songs. My opinion still remains that the original of this particular song is a carefully crafted piece of art, while the cover is a xerox of a xerox of a xerox, like most post-modernistic works.
Still, if you are truly believing that covering Das Model had absolutely no commercial value for Rammstein, then you are being extremely naive, if not to say blind. ;-)
@porcorosso81 come on now, the Rammstein version was done as a tribute to Kraftwerk. Rammstein has said that they are big fans of Kraftwerk. If Rammstein's style is too "catchy" and "commercial" for you, then don't buy it.
Also was meint Ihr wäre die Musik heute wenns Kraftwerk nicht gegeben hätte? genau, nämlich langweilig.
@TheLundsby but it is a fact that Rammstein's music would not have been like that if there were no Kraftwerk. Rammstein members are fans of Kraftwerk.
I love their unassuming style they have, nowadays great music stars are always pushing themselves to the front, Kraftwerk never has done that, they excell and love being as unassuming and trying to hide themselves to bring out the music. Robots is one of those songs where they play backstage nowadays, with just dummies as robots on stage.
I don't think many of you understand that Rammstein paid a tribute to this song and this band. I like both versions, but ultimately they are incomparable, they are different styles.

09CookieDude - yes, the word 'korrekt' was said by waiter in group's favourite local in Dusseldorf. In German: Sekt = Champagne,
so it used to be like that: "Hello, champagne?" and he always gave the answer: "Corect!" His voice can be hearing in this song.

good point. Ialso find in the Karfttwerk's version, the idea of kind of inevitability of all this.
Kind of..uderstanding the trick and nevertheless "living" it, that's what I get but that's of course IMHO...

@wwwsandro
although, must add I don't see Rammstein's version as a commercial thing, rather as a "hommage" due to the Kraftwerk . Their version isn't bad at all, just coming from another time, and sounding like that.
wwwsandro 11 months ago

@EpicLifeStudio
It doesn't matter if they "needed" to cover Das Model, or if they have other good songs. My opinion still remains that the original of this particular song is a carefully crafted piece of art, while the cover is a xerox of a xerox of a xerox, like most post-modernistic works.
Still, if you are truly believing that covering Das Model had absolutely no commercial value for Rammstein, then you are being extremely naive, if not to say blind. ;-)

@porcorosso81 exactly. well said.

@porcorosso81 I assume you don't listen to Rammstein much then.
EMYDreadnaught 9 months ago
@porcorosso81 come on now, the Rammstein version was done as a tribute to Kraftwerk. Rammstein has said that they are big fans of Kraftwerk. If Rammstein's style is too "catchy" and "commercial" for you, then don't buy it.

@wolfmanjacksaid
as far as i know "the model" gets published as a SP (maxi) CD which isn't available any more

allen respekt gegenueber kraftwerk.

Also was meint Ihr wäre die Musik heute wenns Kraftwerk nicht gegeben hätte? genau, nämlich langweilig.

@limbolollie you can't compare Rammstein and Kraftwerk just because they're both german
TheLundsby 1 year ago 77
@TheLundsby but it is a fact that Rammstein's music would not have been like that if there were no Kraftwerk. Rammstein members are fans of Kraftwerk.
deathmare88 1 year ago
@TheLundsby he doesn't compare the two bands just because they're german, but because they have this song in common

@limbolollie das ist das Original. Rammstein ist Kitsch!
