I've never "pulled the race card" but find it interesting that two people (Chang and Eng) who would be considered by most to be enslaved to themselves and their "owners" would own slaves in the American south. (A few blacks owned slaves as well.) Talk of life imitating art. Go figure??
P.S. Thank you for the tasteful video. It was informative but yet not exploitive. I find it amazing how we all go through life "conjoined" in some way or capacity.
@freacls Being Asian, anyone of the same last name as mine, I am forbid to date such a person due to our possible linked lineage (total stranger), but to Westerners, because of the varied ways of spelling one's surname (from Smiths to Smits), the probability that Paris Hilton could be a relative of Violet and Daisy will be more like a removed fourth cousins or something like that. Hehe :-D
@freacls As a teen I read a book about P.T. Barnum and thought that he exploited those poor "freaks". Until I thought about how the people in his show looked handicapped but were actually able to do the mundane things that we all take for granted only they were forced by nature to do them with a different set of tools. They also shared bonds in their circus community that we would have been jealous of. Browning's movie showed them not as victims but productive people.
Mille-Christine or the Hilton Sisters story is soooo sad I read it before. They say one was alive up to 4 days why the other was died before they found them. SAD!!!!!!
Mille-Christine died of tuberculoses, The Hilton Sisters of the Hong Kong Flu while the Bunkers, according to TIMES' report, Chang died of cerebral clot and Eng of fright from Chang's Death in 1874.
If you look at the sets of them in the past 30 years most died in separate or atleast one did....I can understand family leaving them as they are....How do u pick who will die or live in your kids? :(
You have done a magnificent job of creating this informative, fascinating, and compassionate video from a collage of stills. Your beautiful narration completes this most exciting presentation. Many thanks for your contribution!
You have made a magnificent, dignified, compassionate video with just still photos. Thank you for presenting this fantastic presentation, which you have so beautifully narrated!
Thanks. It was just interesting that I lived in Thailand and then here in NC and not far from Chang & Eng's settlement. Plus, the other two sets of conjoined twins were a total surprised find. Note interesting coincidences of the three sets of twins:
All three sets are buried here in NC. All three have been a part of P.T. Barnum Circus, and Chang & Eng is have Chinese and Daisy & Violet died of the influenza called the Hong Kong flu. It's a full circle and another interesting note- is that all three races are represented.
The background music ruined this whole video.

All 3 sets could have been easily separated nowadays. But back in those days, no doctor/surgeon would ever attempt it, because it was dangerous.

Did I hear you right that Daisy & Violet worked with Bob Hope and either Chang or Eng's son or sons fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War?
