  • OMG, i am Ghanian, and this brings back so many memories from my childhood. I never realized it could create a style for my natural hair! thank you :*

  • Your skits are always wonderful...funny how our experiences aren't much different tho I live in the US and have multiracial parents...girls who felt my hair always commented on how straight my hair felt at the roots but said I still needed to get a relaxer. I don't have a much of a curl pattern but my hair is not straight or silky, and relaxers were the devil to my hair because my hair would never turn out straight without becoming a big bush or much too thin looking.

  • Wonderful. Love the skit. Is this the style she had before the children played in it?

  • @punky298705 Thank you. No, her hair was stretched and she wore it all out with a headband. A free flowing head of natural hair is irresistible to children :).

  • I am going to try this on my girls' hair. When I am in a rut I can always watch your vids and get the inspiration again. Thank you so much!!!

  • @jazelle831 Awesome! Thank you :) x

  • OMg! That skit was the best! You are so funny! Love it!

  • @velvetwallpaper :D! Lol Thank you :) xx

  • i love your videos can you do one on african kinky twist i saw some videos and they arnt that clear and then when i do them they dont turn out right

  • @ThecuteSarah09 Sorry love, I don't do extensions, so I'm not expert at them either.x

  • do you use the same shampoo or do you switch it up, do you use kinky curling custerd in your daughters hair,if you flat iron theyr how do you use the same routine

  • @ThecuteSarah09 I usually use a mild baby shampoo, like Berts Bees or California baby. I have used Kinky Curling Custard, but it didn't work for us. It was really sticky and locked up their hair. I've never flat ironed their hair, so we don't have a routine for that. I hope I answered your questions. If not let me know :) x

  • does the oils act as a moisturiser, did you add more shea butter to the ends so it can stay moisturized how often do you do it,do you also get the roots and put oil 0on it or just the hair

  • @ThecuteSarah09 If the ends are dry, I'll mist the ends with a little water and add shea butter. I use it on their hair and on the odd occasion, if there is a dry spot on their scalp, I'll use a little on that dry area. :)

  • was her hair blow dried???

  • @UmmMahirah Hey hon, no just supper streched using African Threading x

  • I love your videos and the skits are soo cute and funny

  • @missfashunoitall Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed watching :)..

  • i wish u could come do my daughters hair like this. so that's just sew in hair thread and your just wrapping around the hair. because it looked like the hair is twisted but it's not?

  • @tiffanyssweets Yes it's just sew-in weave thread. It's easier than you think. Chick out video ♥ 9 ♥ Braiding Technique #6, it gives you a step by step breakdown on how to do it. :)

  • LMAO... I freakin' love your videos!!!

  • @S1MNICITY Ha! Thanks :) x

  • are you from england

  • @ThecuteSarah09 Yes, I was born and raised in England and my parents are Ghanaian.

  • The threading, such an African practice. I would always break out with bumps.

  • @cumensu Yes :). You get bumps when it's done too tightly.

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls, my skin is naturally sensitive to being tied up. So even when done loosely, I can break out with scalp bumps.

  • AAAWWW MY MUM USED TO DO THIS FOR ME

  • @RedBullDrinker5000 :). We took for granted how much of a great protective style it was back then. x

  • I love it. I will do it next styling day. Thanks!

  • @lyotaswa Great! Let me know how it went :) x

  • I love this!!!

  • @nikjohn77 Thank you! :)

I just happen to stumble across it!

  • @AKIYIAKELLY Thank you so much :) x

  • I like that style can I use regular thread?

  • @VIBlackBerri Thanks. You can but you may have to double it up so it doesn't break when trying to braid.

  • Love yr channel, yr girls r just adorable! Reminds me of my mum threading my hair as a child; she used silk thread. :-)

  • @38moons Thank you so much! x

  • What a great channel!!! Thanks for posting all these great videos x

  • @QueenChezabelle Aww, you're welcome! Thanks for watching :) x

  • I remember when I was younger, my mom used to do my hair like this and I absolutely hated it! But now that I look back on it, it was actually good for me and my hair. I'm 15 now and I braid my own hair and my two younger sisters' hair so I'll probably be doing this on my youngest sister. Great tutorial!

  • @naijababe95 Thank you! It's amazing how much length is retained using this is a protective style. I took that for granted when I was young, but it really worked! Thanks for watching :) x

  • I'm a Ghanaian lady and recently stumbled on ypur videos and I love, love it. Funny. I have a 3 year old daughter who has lovely hair but can't cornrow but I can do the Ghana plait. Your ideas are fantastic. more videos pls.

Like I am a touch and feel museum exhibit :-\ I put the fear of Mom in my poor child about kids touching her hair in school. I'm so mean. But dem kids be havin cooties, plus all they do is knot up her hair. Sheewwt. LOL Lady, you are my inspiration. My girls have different hair types. I can see myself doing this with my younger one when her hair is longer. Thanks for sharing. Blessings...

  • YOU ARE MY HERO! lol....I absolutly love your video's & wonderful hairstyles for children. Your acting skills makes me laugh all the time. Keep Up The Great Work! You're the best.

  • Ok, I know you made this a really long time ago, but I was laughing so hard at that skit, I literally had to press pause, visit the kitchen to re-collect myself. All this aside, I am loving your videos. I don't have kids, but I plan to employ some of your techniques on myself. So thank you! I love it when vloggers show us their sense of humor. :) Kudos! And I am a new subbie.

  • @shonesters Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy the vids and decided to sub and then took the time to leave the comment. Keeps me going :).

  • Love the videos. If you're taking requests, can you do more protective styles, especially after it's stretched? Thanks.

  • @sandnsea212 Thanks! Most of the styles I do can be done on stretched or unscratched hair. Did you mean loser type of protective styles, where you can tell the hair is stretched? I don't get to do many of those these days. Now of baby is here I need styles that last at least a week or two and those styles usually don't, but when I do them I will defiantly make a video on them. Thanks for the suggestion. :) (Hope I answered your request. Let me know if I misunderstood your request).

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls Sorry for asking the same question twice. You didn't misunderstand. I was just curious about what you do with their stretched hair.

  • Thanks for all the information! I am wondering if you put ghana plaits on your own hair and if so what tips to you have for those wanting to try.

  • @snuffy0612 You are so welcome! Yes, I do. It's so versatile that you can use it in a number of ways! It can be used as an alternative to single box braids, by using the cork screw method. I'm wearing my hair like that in video ♥2♥. I also like to mix it with two strand twist bangs that I can style in the front (I curl mine) and then pull the African braids into a high or low bun. Sometimes I'll African braid a head full of 2 strand twists overnight to stretch them out.

  • lol I'm Ghanaian and my mom always did this hairstyle for my sister and I when we were growing up :) really does help the hair grow quickly.

  • Still happens to me at work! They are so surprised when they realise the hair is actually soft! lol

  • Love your little skits. You're such a great actress

  • I'm black British (Ghanaian) and my mum used to thread my hair all the time when I was younger. I'm 15 now and I'm natural again so I'm learning how to take care of my hair but I still let my mum thread my hair occasionally. Brings back memories xx You have an inspirational channel so keep it up and God Bless :D

  • I love love love the skits in your vids! Keep up the great work :)

  • i feel like u all just have alot of hair. what can ppl like me who are not so hairy do to grow longer hair?

  • @maasweetie Follow her advice. And subscribe to haircrush. Keep it simple.

  • @maasweetie Hi! The key to long hair is to retain length. This is defiantly harder for some than others! The key is to focus on keeping hair healthy, so we can retain its length as it grows. My youngest daughter’s hair is extremely resilient. It doesn't break easily, so it's easier to retain her length. My oldest daughter and I have porous hair that tends to be dry & more fragile, so it takes more TLC to retain our length. We use protective styling, gentle manipulation and lots of moisture. :)

  • My mom use to do that for me when i was little.. may i ask which part of Africa you are from??

  • @jenny12233 She grew up in England but her parents are Ghanian.

  • @soyeleye

oh cool i knew she had to have some kinda of Ghanian in her lol because I'm also Ghanian but living in the U.S.A

  • Great Video. I have been looking for new protective styling techniques for my daughter. I'll will have to try this one. Thanks for posting.

  • Funny vid. Are you an actress professionally/ever considered it? You'd be very good!

  • @MonkeymagicsMum Thank you! No I'm not. I love to laugh and see the funny side of life. :). Thinking about it now, I actually got an 'A' in drama class at school and I even did a little work as an extra, to help pay for college. But coming from a Ghanaian household, pursuing acting as a profession never even crossed my mind! (Love the username by the way. I used to watch that as a kid) :)

  • Love the hairstyle. Great directions. I just dont understand the need for the use of the thread. Why not just do a two strand twist since thats what it ends up looking like anyway. Please forgive my ignorance.

  • @flutturi Hi! Great question. If I were to make the same size section and do a two strand twist, it would be very chunky and wouldn't say neat for very long. I would have to do about 5 two strand twists per same section for sturdier twists. So for me African threading is much faster. Also when you use the thread it binds hairs together very tightly, so hair is tangle free upon takedown. African threading hold in moisture a lot better and better protects hair from the elements. Hope this helped.

  • ok thanks for the reply i'll see if i can find some strong regular black thread and double it

  • im not sure if ill be able to find that thick weave thread were im currently at(saudi arabia) but i have seen the regular sewing thread , do you have any alternative options of thread that can be used instead of the thick weave thread.

  • @shamael002 I know wat u mean! I was in Saudi and I could not find anything for black hair!! but maybe you can order it online :)

  • @shamael002 Yes, my mum used to by a particular thread to braid our hair in London, but it was sometimes hard to come by, so she would buy the strongest black sewing thread she could find and double it up by folding it in half before using. You could try that. Hope this helps. :)

  • @GirlsLoveYourCurls What about the thick thread used for sewing buttons on a coat?

  • @shamael002 my mother would used regular black thread that you use when you sew clothes if she didn't have the other thread

  • Firstly, this is probably the BEST hair vid I've ever seen (and I've watched 100's)!

Very entertaining, totally relevant, completely articulate and very unique. I've seen this technique before but your styling adds an extra touch :)

A few questions: Is this faster than doing a 2-strand twist or just longer lasting? When u take down, is the hair in wearable "free" condition?

Lastly, your daughter is BEATIFUL, and you are HILARIOUS!

  • @mrsprimo999 Thank you so much for watching and for your comments! Knowing the vids actually help is what keeps me going. :). Answer to your first question - is defiantly a yes for me. It is a lot quicker than doing two strand twists. Question 2: I'm not sure how long you keep twists in for, but I can usually keep an African threaded style in for two weeks. Question 3: When I take their hair down it looks stretched and blow dried and my girls enjoy wearing their hair free after take down :)

  • This is an AWESOME video! I have been wondering how African threading was done. Can you use "any" thread for this technique or is there a specific kind for it? Thanks!

  • @20pearlsNcurls Thank you! I find that the best thread to use is the same weave thread used for sew-in weaves. You should be able to find it at any beauty supply store that sells hair extensions. They sometimes keep them behind the counter so be sure to ask. :)

  • Cute style, I'm going to try this on my little girl.

  • @curlsandcoils That's great! Let me know how you get on. :)

  • so beautiful. you little girls look happy.

  • @adassa Thank you! I dreaded hair sessions when I was a kid, but they actually look forward to it, which is so lovely to see. :)

  • Very nice!!

  • @qochemist Thank you! :)

  • You are like the perfect mom, I don't know any mother who prepped there daughter with snacks a movie coloring books or nada like that when I was growing up. The one thing we know was to sit still. lol

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Ahhh, thank you so much! Perfect, no, but I do my best to make our hair sessions enjoyable and not like the 'dread fest' it was when we were growing up!...lol :)

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Ditto! Watching that hair style took me back to my childhood in Africa hahaha. Needless, the say my mother was not as gentle with my hair. Kuddos to you for being so gentle with your daughter's hair :-)

  • @PalaisCristalLLC lmao!!! aint that the truth! the good ole days.. haha

  • LOL, you are a riot...!!! You're more English then the white people I met in London... lol

  • @PalaisCristalLLC Do you think so? lol.

  • @PalaisCristalLLC I usually like hearing Brit English on children only, but after hearing you speak WOW, your English is the POSHest of the Posh!!!

  • omg you took me right back to grade 6! My neighbour used to braid my hair in time for school every week. If you caught her in a bad mood, you knew you would not be laughing for the next three days - them things were tight! Yeah I miss those days of vaseline, black thread and tears lol. One thing for sure - we were always groomed. How I miss Africa! Your hand is very light and you are very gentle and clear in your tutorial.

  • @FikiNom Ha ha! Thank you so much. Yes, our parents didn't play. Hair was always on-point. :) Glad you enjoyed the vid. Thanks for watching! :)

  • Glad I found you, your amazing!

  • @Jadison03 Becasue you found me I also found you, so thank you and welcome! :) x

  • you girls got long hair.l'm jealous l cant wait untill my relaxer grows out hun

  • thank you so much for this video. I just finished dooing this style on my daughter. She loves it! And she is a hard to please 4 year old :)

  • @Bronxsweety Oh how lovely! I wish I could see it. I just started a Girls Love Your Curls page on Facebook, so I people can share their African Threading results. Feel free to post pics of your creations :). X

  • I am doing this!!

  • @OmoItsekiri Great! Let me know how you get on! :)

  • I love your video intros Funny!!!

  • @klarisseable Thank you! :D

  • Thank u 4 showing me that My Husband Is from Nigeria but his mother Is from Ghana and he says his mother used 2 take his sister 2 get her hair threaded, Now I see ur girls are older than my own(10mos). How did u do their hair when they were that little babies? and 2 get It to grow that length without their hair or ends breaking off? I need a style that I won't need 2 bother her hair 4 awhile, that protect her ends, Oh and that's quick she won't sit 4 long. Thank u n advance 4 ne help. Gr8 kids

  • @BItuification Hello! Well, when their hair was short, I would wash their hair in the tub, slather it with olive oil, pick it out and add small accessories. At 2 inches long I would part their hair into 1 inch squares and African braid each section. I would knot then ends and either wrap it into mini Bantu buns or bend it in half, and tie the top to the root of the braid (forming a loop). Then decorate with a few small accessories. These would stay in for around 5 days. Hope this helped. :)

  • Hi I wanted to ask how do you prepare your daughters hair when they go to bed is there anything special that you do? Would you let them go to sleep without braids on their hair?

  • @Goldniz Hi! If their hair is in Ghana plaits/African braids, I'll just put on a satin bonnet. If their hair is in two strand twists, I'll probably put in a little leave in conditioner and braid it, or put it in Bantu buns for curls. Every now and then, when their hair was shorter, I would let them sleep without braids, but it would get very tangled, if I did that now. If their hair has been out and it gets too late to do anything with it, I'll put it in 4 big Ghana plaits to sleep in.

  • cool video!!

  • @RegrowingRene101 Thank you! :)

  • wow never seen this method before. thnx

  • @OnyxKajal You're welcome! :)

  • Great vid! That's not the threading I'm used to (used to it completely wrapping the hair), but it looks good! Your daughter is so cute! :-D

  • @PackofDiscos Thank you! Yes, that's a popular way to do it in Ghana and it looks beautiful when done that way too.. Thanks for watching. :)

  • i wanted to find out if you moisturise daily with the shemix when your girl's hair is in this protective style?

  • @vibrantaHi! If I braid their hair right after washing I do a deep moisture/conditioning treatment, so their hair stays moisturized really well. With this type of style I don't usually have to do anything to it for at least a week. When her hair is in twists (and so not as protected), I use Giovanni’s direct 10 leave in conditioner in a spray bottle with some oil and water and spray it on for moisture, whenever I feel it needs it.

  • Hi, How was your daughter's hair stretched prior to this style? Was it blow dried? Thank you

  • @AhhUMbeijo Hi, No, I didn't blow dry. Her hair had been in another African braided protective style for a week prior to making this video, which stretched the hair. I took out the braids, brushed it out and then did this style.

  • ahahahaha, you are hilarious. this method is great, i'm 21 and plan to do this

  • @jaynelldessert :) Thank you! Thanks for watching and let me know how you get on.

  • Love it! What a great protective style!

  • @skraprchik Thank you! It really does wonders for the hair. :)
