It wasn't geared right because they forgot to install the stubbie holders. Lol. It needed taller gearing. It was flat out going up the hill as well as down. If it's gearing was taller it would have started lapping everyone. But like was said lower down. They could have taken 2nd and 4th gear out of the box and it still would have won the race. The A9X Torana. Fastest car in Oz for years after.
@andcom05 I was replying to an earlier comment. They did a staggered race at Bathurst between a Supercar, a stock SS and the A9X. The A9X came straight from Goodwood or something and the gearing was not set up for the mountain which hurt its performance a lot. As for back in the day, they could have taken 2nd and 4th out of the gearbox and thing still probably would have won!
@ockaa Actually more to do with the huge increase in horsepower and downforce, than with the brakes and suspension. The A9X was sprung as stiff as a vr or vs Supercar.
@ockaa DUMB CUNTS!!!! well thanks for that, i was just stating the facts and yes they're about half the car of today's V8 Supercar, because the A9X raced in a production based category when the rule book was allot tighter than it is today. As for a car being better than me, what are u on about???????
@ockaa 4 speed box then verses 6 speed sequential shift now....means more flexability with diff ratios and faster up shifts and down shifts too. Couple of Bathursts ago, they raced a V8 Super car against Brockie's A9X and a stock as a rock VE SS Commodore. The Supercar won...no surprises there, but the stock VE SS Commodore left the A9X for dead. Same would happen with a GTHO vs, XR8 BF Falcon I'm sure.
@gzwbyc i dont think you dumb cunts understood what i was getting at.they are only half the car of what we have now,but they are still better then you.
@gzwbyc Actually, that A9X wasn't geared for bathurst. They wanted to change the ratios but never had time and in fact they said that in the commentary. Watching it was just sad, not a reflection of what the thing could do at all.
True, it wouldn't mix it with a V8 Supercar (of course not, it's thirty years older for heaven's sake) but a more interesting car to watch by pretty much any measure. Same as the old Senna Marlboro McLaren F1. If you disagree, motorsport just aint your thing..
@StaticTremor Nah...all good. Totally agree with you, Was watching a repeat episode of Top Gear last night. They has a Cosworth Escort fully loaded race car from the 70's against a bog stock Ford Focus. The Focus beat the Escort around the track by about 1 second but was boring as bat shit to watch. Old Skool racers are MY thing.
@StaticTremor How was brock's A9X not geared right for Bathurst, please explain???
It was the fastest car that weekend by taking pole, even after he left his braking late into the cutting and could have clocked a 2min 18 lap! During the race it was also the fastest car down conrod where no one else could come near him. Led from start to finish, won by a staggering 6 laps and set a new lap record on the last lap.
I've driven around Mt Panorama in a REX Sti but now they have the chase at the end of conrod straight, Imagine coming down conrod straight and jumping on the anchors to turn left onto pit straight , FREAKING WILD!!!!.
Fuck I miss Peter Brock....
