  • Your demos are always really good man. My only constructive criticism is that the room mics don't really make sense, because that room isn't very good sounding. It has a backwards, bathroom-ish kind of sound.

  • You made me laugh when you said "I don't like complicated really big set-ups". Dude you are a tone chaser, and perfectionist. you live for this shit! If you wanted to make it easy on yourself, you would get a Fractal Audio Ax-Fx.

  • @orbithesun1 my old band's singer has one. I've used it at my house for a couple of weeks and really liked it for recording purposes but did not like it at all for live use (even when used with a good tube power amp). There's also a pretty steep learning curve with the axefx.

I'll eventually have the new version but not until I get back into recording.

  • @FastRedPonyCar Have you ever tried using an isolation cabinet, something like the Randall Isolation 12 Speaker Cab or the AxeTrak. I have both of types and I like the focused bass response I get with the units. I use a THD HotPate in conjunction with isolation cabs, to keep the sound pressure levels down.

  • @silvercelli It's good enough that people send me free products.

  • @FastRedPonyCar haha love it

  • Wanna 3rd part!

  • @666SeeR999 too many things are done different to do a solid part 3. I'm still actually refining the process myself so doing one at this point would be obsolete within a month :(

  • @FastRedPonyCar

Do you run through effects loop?

  • @Alanlovesguitar14 almost always.

  • ok, i now love you. ;)

for a year i've been messing around with layering guitars and using two mics trying to get this big sound.

today i used two mics on the cab and two room mics. straight away, the exact sound i've been after.

    rock on!

  • nice guitar, man.

  • If I record with only one or two mics what mic should they be and where?

I can't find part 3, Is it uploaded?

  • @guysapire I haven't done part 3 yet. I got tied up with other stuff. The 3rd video I think will take a long time to put together.

if you're using 2 mics, I would say direct mic a speaker with one and do room audio capture with the other.

  • @FastRedPonyCar OK. and what type mic should I get, because I saw lots of types like condensers and stuff like that.

  • @guysapire An SM57 on the speaker combined with an Avantone CK1 in the room would be a great combo. I LOVE the CK1. It's inexpensive and sounds good. If you have more cash to play with, a cascade fathead ribbon mic would be a killer option also. Make sure your mic preamp or interface has phantom power though as the avantone and most other condensers won't work without it.

  • Great video and well explained, this is extremely helpful to me. thanks for posting.

  • great demo! it was really cool to to listen to the different sounds of mics combined ect... fyi don't forget to listen to it in 480+ for stereo
