  • Thanks man. This helped me better understand find and of course mplayer for that matter, along with creating playlist. Real awesome thanks.

  • what version of linux do you use?

  • @guitarlacrosseguy19: Depends on what I'm doing :)

Mostly on desktops I use Linux Mint. But, at heart I'm a Debian man and run that on a lot of other things (Cell Phone, Tablet, Server).

If you are looking for an out of the box solution that is just ready to go, Mint is my recommendation. If you are looking to put some time into it and start with a very basic system and work your way up, but don't want to get as involved as Gentoo or Arch, I recommend Debian.

  • Hi. Very useful explanation. Thanks. Can You please show how to make playlist for mplayer but for many diferent music files like flac, mp3, m4a, wav etc which are in the same folder eg. Music.

  • Thanks a lot! Using this technique I made a playlist of all my music files, around 14,000, and use mplayer to randomly play them. So much easier than opening a gui and wasting all that memory on my old box to do exactly the same thing. Also it uses virtually no cpu, unlike nvlc or cmus (in my case, anyway). So thanks again :)

  • @Brutus1581: That's Great to hear. Glad I could help :)
