@TheJazzSwings You hardly hear it this side of the pond, it would be a welcome distraction from the usual suspects. You have to feel sorry for the shop woirkers, they have to listen to these songs day in day out for weeks. It must be torture.
@TheJazzSwings Yes, this song plays constantly and it drives me insane for the fact that I've HATED this song since I first heard it. What a terrible friggin song, the worst part being them trying to "squeeze" in lyrics at the end of the chorus. If I were a Berserker this would be the song that would trigger my blood rage UGH!!!! 3 more Days!!!!
I have only discovered this christmas song recently and love it, which is weird as last year i discovered T Rex's Christmas Bop which has also become my other fave christmas track.
This is my favourite christmas song of all time. I heard it for the first time this december since i was around 6 years old. Brought back memories from my childhood christmases :')
@moviemakersmind That would be a question best directed at the BBC. I think it was for the chorus, stating that Christmas would be nothing without L&H, M&W etc. as well as Mary and Joseph. Ironic really, as back in those days, Christmas Day's TV was judged by how good the BBC's M&W Christmas Show was. Considering what goes on nowadays it seems very tame reason for banning it.
dunno myself, other Christmad songs such as Slades sing about granny dancing etc so dunno why this would get banned. Perhaps the BBC felt that singing about M&W etc might be viewed by some as saying they were on a par with Jesus. Whereas they seem to be just singing about what a traditional Christmas in UK was. I remember buying this when I saw it simply because I liked Squeeze, but the song isnt great, though no worsethan someChristmas songs.
This sounds totally different on Youtube, it sounds its age, but we have it on the stereo at work, blaring (I work at La Senza too) and when the chorus comes on its the most depressing thing ever.
thought this was video of this song im surprised sqeezed only charted twice in the top ten in the uk i think there one off the better groups from uk then again here in states they rarly got any airplay cept for tempted which i think is there worse song
This is one of the strangest "flops" of all time. The band had reached no 2 twice in the preceding 12 months but this didn't make the top 75. Any one know why ?
It wouldn't have been helped by the BBC banning it on the grounds of blasphemy, though when they did that to other songs it had the opposite effect. I suppose it's not a typical Christmas record, you can't exactly get up and boogie to it at a party, can you? (No matter how drunk). Their previous single, "Slap and Tickle", only reached the dizzy heights of 24, so I suppose the writing was already on the wall. I've given up trying to work out why Squeeze didn't chart more often.
I actually like how retail stores like Macy's are playing this. Stick it to the atheists that want to murder Christmas.

I'll be shopping at Macy's this year, then.

@79wylie Yeah, they were played on KROQ a lot, but there was so much good music to compete with back then.

Thanks - I didn't know about the ban. I remember it being featured on "Roundtable" but they must have got cold feet afterwards.
NB. Slap and Tickle was the fourth single from the album so 24 is not that bad considering.

Perfectly timed video, Tyronne.
This song makes me laugh a little.
The beginning is so pretty and then it goes in so many crazy musical directions.
In any case, hope you are well and have a great Xmas and New Year!!
