  • After I clean my brushes I wrap the brush ends in paper towels or toilet paper and then when the paper is dry, like the next day, I take it off and that's how I keep my brushes in good shape. Also, never dry your brushes standing straight up because the water will get down into the metal of the brush and disturb the glue and the hairs will fall out =0

  • I learn so much from you!

  • YAY ! I WAS USING THEM THE RIGHT WAY ....

  • I agree..buy good brushes & take care of them! recently I found a very soft angled brush that is amazing for foundation & it`s very affordable .it`s one third of the price for a 217 mac brush. The cheapest I ever bought & I one of my favorite ones!

could you do a tutorial on you favorite brushes?

  • @srbXOXOgirl93 What brush is that? I'd love to know! By the way, I use EcoTools brushes and I love them so much! They're so soft :)

  • @RoseBrilliante it doesn`t have a brand..I bought it in a store where you can find everything lol it`s a supermarket/drugstore/clothing/travel/kitchen/office..well if you ever visit switzerland go to "coop"..& I don`t think they have an online shop

    sry I couldn`t help

  • @srbXOXOgirl93 Ehh, it's ok; I'm sure I can find lots of good cheap brushes anyway :)

  • Great video..

  • Great, now i have to find thesamantha3529's comment...

  • i said it and i'll say it again: you are amazing. that's exactly what i'm looking for in a guru on the internet. i mean, who cares to see the amazing makeup tutorials they can do... after a while, i have learned myself how to combine colors and textures. no, what i need is a person that knows what he's talking about, telling me about how i am KILLING my brushes. THANK YOU.

  • Omg I love this guy..he's so nice and cute when he blinks at the end

  • Hey! This video helped me a lot! Usually I focus mostly on the condition of my makeup and I ignore my brushes, but you've definitely helped me change the way I use my brushes!

  • You even abuse your brushes just to show us. Wow you are dedicated :)

  • This was the best tip for me by far! Thanks!

  • Omg! I'm killing my brushes!!!!!

    Thanks!

  • you are a life saver. i have learned more from you in the last 20 minutes than 3 years of following countless of gurus on the internet! thank you so much!

  • day 83, still no sign on thesamantha3529's comment, i am running low on food and water supply. it isn't looking to good right now, i may need to find a place to rest, perhaps find some wild pillows, perfect for a setup bed.

  • @nerii98 lolol go to "view all comments" and use the find function. xD

  • you're so handsome!damn!!!

  • i love that kabuki ^_^

  • @twinparty2 Walmart sells them now! :)

  • @MrsRia79 Do they? I've looked for them there and I have never seen them. I also checked online at walmart.com and still didnt see anything :/

  • thanks for addressing the brush guard splaying issue... and this video? point taken. *guilty look*

  • When is saw the title to this I knew I had to click!

  • no one is better or worse depending on their gender. and i find the people saying he is better than all female makeup artists just as offensive as the ones that say he shouldn't be doing makeup. are you all stuck in the fucking past? just enjoy the individuals talent regardless on whether they have a penis.

  • @leccah Agreed. I find it very strange when I see a top rated comment that's "you give better advice than most female gurus" or something like that. Both men and women are more comfortable taking advice from men, because of this deeply ingrained belief about how men and women should act. For this same reason, it is hard for women to give advice without seeming "bitchy" or "snobby". There are some amazing female gurus on youtube and amazing male ones.

  • Where could i buy the brush guards?

  • @VisualKei1VampireV1 You can get them on Amazon.com

  • @twinparty2 Thank you so much!

  • I just bought some expensive eye brushes from MAC. My blending technique was all wrong even though I was using the right brushes. So I went to the MAC store and asked the makeup artist there and showed him what I was doing, and guess what? I was too heavy handed. Then I see this vid! Thanks for the heads up about how to protect our beloved brushes!

  • @xxEMILY2011xx Are you fucking stupid? Does anything about him seem gay? For God's sake, men do better makeup and hair then women do, and I am a woman. If you don't like him, why the fuck are you here? Move on bitchy emily and get out of here.

  • @xxEMILY2011xx why does it matter?

  • I flinched when you bent the hairs of the brush >.<

  • What brush is the fluffy one? With the odd handle...he demonstrated it in one of those sleeves? Does anyone know?

  • @Brendy10510 nars kubokie brush

  • It makes me cringe when when people dig into eyeshadow, wastes the eyeshadow as well :S

  • Thank you

  • At least I do something right when it comes to makeup. Excellent video.

  • Im 13 not even i bend brushes like that? I didnt realise people older than 5 did thatO.o

  • My mac brushes are over ten years old. The 242 is like the day I got it, and the 224 is just starting to shed. The 116 is a goner but I can't bring myself to let go. My 213 is only 3 years old but still looks new. Well worth the investment!

  • You are SO talented. You jam-pack my brain with new knowledge with every single video!

  • THANK YOU! very helpful information.

  • Where is the best place to purchase the type of fluid you recommend? And will it clean my foundation from my stippling brush?

  • @LondonMrsA he jst talked about Alcholol for cleaning his brush. For a stippling brush, I honeslty wash it after every use, cus they just dont work good "dirty" I think the Bare Minerals Brush Shampoo is the BEST, I put a pea size on my brush and swirl it in my hands and gently squeeze out the excess water/foundation build up. I find when I do it more frequently Im not workin as hard to get the product out of the brush. Also EVOV is great for deep cleaning & something I do Monthly

  • Guilty as charged! Lol. I definitely need to take it easier on my brushes. Thanks for all your great makeup advice! :0)

  • @sasha29622

I don't really wear makeup but my mom does use baby shampoo and her brushes are in great condition. It's great to wash them after every use so they're nice and clean the next time you use them. You can wash them before every use if you want, just make sure they are COMPLETELY dry before use. Hope this helps ^.^

  • how often should we be washing our brushes?? i don't use mine every SINGLE day, mostly eye makeup on when i go out or have more time... i've heard to wash them with baby shampoo once a week or once a month? in this video you mentioned alcohol... is baby shampoo okay?!!?!

  • I see what you mean. I studied art in school (well I am a Potter but I did take painting classes). I would NEVER do that stuff to the brushes!!!!! It damages them and also pressing them onto the canvas like that would cause brisles to come out.

  • TIN TIN

  • I guess I am just naturally light handed or something. Because I NEVER press down hard like that. I know in my head that that damages the bristles, even though i didn't necessarily know it before now, it just seemed obvious. I'm always very gentle with my brushes, and take as best care of them as I can. I guess that all came naturally to me. It seems ridiculous not to wash them, and to be almost violent with them. I know how to treat brushes. But I guess this was just reassurance. Thanks!

  • Ive only just discovered you on YT & im totally addicted. your advise is amazing & straight to the point which i love!!! im learning so much THANK YOU!! x

  • I don't know which one is October video but I would defo love to win makeup forever makeup

  • Thank you, i've learn't a lot from this video:D Please make more videos :)

  • Wow @ your 5 yo kabuki brush! I

  • i learned how to take care of my makeup brushes because i compare them to my paint brushes

i paint a lot and a lot of my brushes would get all :/ nasty looking because i was so harsh but when i learned to be more gentle. the painting brush would last so much longer, and i use the same [technic?] with my makeup brushes. they have lasted me a long while now.

  • Excellent video! Great tips..but could you please comment on Hakuhodo brushes as well? I've been hearing a lot about these brushes lately and I just wanted to know why they're so different....How I am supposed to use and take care of them???THANKS!!!! PLEASE<PLEASE

  • excelent video :)

  • Thank you for your tips ... I've been watching video after video from you ~ learning so much !

  • Sorry i did'nt catch the name of the small make up brush u said you had for five years where did you get it?

  • Okay. This doesn't have anything to do with the video but it needs to be said. When he does that little wink at the end of the video, my stomach flutters a bit.

  • Your a great teacher.

  • Where can I get a Kabuki brush like that. I want one plz.

  • @cakecatering he said it was a NARS brush... try narscosmetics. com

  • Great Tips! I think I know what I need to buy myself for Christmas...brush guards!

  • THANKS! I've tried a lighter hand (using the tip) over the past few days and the difference in application has been ENORMOUS.

It's actually easier to blend by lightly brushing rather than the "window washer" all of the "gurus" recommend.

Can you believe, 54 yearss of doing it wrong--its amazing that my eyelids haven't been torn away! Please keep reminding people in every application video. Thanks again!

  • This is genuinely so useful as sometime heavy handy me can not only ruin my makeup but also the blushes! Thx for that tip~ love ya

  • Kind of funny, I found that I was light handed after I took up painting, really helped me.

  • @thesamantha3529 HOW THE FUCK DID MY DOCTER PERFORM SURGERY!?!? SHE'S A WOMAN!!!!! :/

  • @cairalice BRILLIANT :')

  • @cairalice nice language, real lady like and charming.

  • @thesamantha3529 he is a professional makeup artist. welcome to the twenty first century. professions dont have a gender attached to them.

  • @thesamantha3529 & your point is?????

  • @thesamantha3529 wow thts not low @ all...guys and girls cn do whatever they want. Guys can do makeup and girls can work in construction

  • @thesamantha3529 ...... Have you been locked in a cave for all your life? Or what,

  • great video..anythng els to disinfect and clean ur brushes with apart from alcohol

  • @aysh765 I use brush cleaners from Sephora but a natural shampoo & conditioner will work on brushes too but i would only use that if your brushes are real hair fibers.

  • love your videos :)

  • OMG! I'm a horrible makeup brushes owner!! lol

  • are YOU wearing make up? because your skin is flawless x

  • Thank you for this tip. I love the work you do.

  • Thanks for the help I just started using brushes your tips will help alot

  • i never realized how hard I was on my makeup brushes..

  • How do you use alcohol to clean brushes I use baby shampoo please do a tutorial on cleaning and drying brushes thanks

  • @Ljstutor I think most people use alcohol on a towel, paper or cloth, and wipe back and forth until visibly clean. So it's kind of just a spot clean, not a proper clean with baby shampoo :)

  • @Ljstutor he has a video on it, where he actually cleans the brushes with alcohol i do it too now

  • @finessence808 Thanks i found it.

  • Thanks for the tips! May you show us some time how you clean your brushes?

  • I use the brush guards too! :)

  • i would love to know how to properly use buffing brushes on the face so that they don't get damaged! xo

  • Thank you, your videos are always useful!

  • Thank you for making this video. Your videos are very informative. I enjoy watching them!!! :)

  • Excellent tips. I am pretty gentle with my brushes (not quite as gentle when washing though) but this is a very good reminder!

  • U r marvelous!

  • U r wonderful! Thank u for this

  • U r wonderful! Thank u for this

  • I wish you could show us how to deep clean the brushes, because when I deep clean, I definately wear out my brushes...as I keep putting a lot of pressure on them.

  • i wish my little sister would watch this video... she treats her brushes like crap! :(

  • Oh the horror!!!!

  • I'm very happy to say that i treat my brushes nicely.

  • Personally, I think the Brush Guards are so overpriced for what little they are. I use the black "Non-Fray Expandable Braided Sleeving" sold at cableorganizers dot com. It's the same woven design as the brush guards, but it's an expandable stretch material (think fabric, not plastic) which is 2x as thick. It's sold by the foot & dirt cheap. After I cut it to size, I cinch the cut end with a lighter to seal the cut end (it doesn't ever fray). The material never frays or wears. Highly recommend!

  • @summerblu Great suggestion!

  • What are your best tips about eyeshadow fallout? No matter how I seem to apply eyeshadow(with primer too), it always comes off and makes my face a glittery mess. Any advice?

  • i truly believe your knowledge is infinite!

  • Do we have a "How to clean your makeup brush" video? If not can we please? thanks babe :-) lol

  • @MissKayfad1 its the first link in his description box x

  • I prefer to lay down the shadow on my lid with those cheap little spongy things that come with the shadows. It's a lot faster, and IMHO they work better than brushes with the shimmery/metallic/glittery shadows.

  • Thank you so much for this video, great information.

  • your sooo informative clearly this is what you were born to do

  • Could i use aquarelle brus for a blending brush, they really look the same and are really gentle. I just don't have the money to buy all the brushes.

  • Great tips. Makes me realize I need to relax ;-) Thank you!

  • Thank you for the vid. :) Could you please do a video sometime on the types of makeup brushes we should have for everyday makeup? (ie basics )

  • @bshinigami Basic Brushes, A great crease brush for UR eyeshape, a blending brush (MAC 217 is a STAPLE and a pencil Brush. Thats really all u need for eyes.U can get Craft store brushes at Michaels for angled Liner and all that other detail stuff, for puttin down color, I really perfer my fingers or a 239

  • I watched a different tutorial and saw all of the jamming eye shadows and bending bristles. I thought, "hey! Go watch Wayne's video and learn something!"

  • You clean your brushes with alcohol? Video pleeeease ;D

  • @itzihuariquintero

do a search, i believe he's got a video on that two years ago. something to do with hygeine or something similar. caring for your makeup? sanitizing? something like that.

  • So helpful thanks Wayne - I bought the brush guards and love them - can you do a video showing how you clean your brushes?

  • oh man, you are so awesome

  • I like your perception of affordable. Put money into something good and then make it last. Hey, you're great! Are you comingo to Mexico sometime? I'd love to meet you and be on a seminar with you!

  • great tips as always. I def have to ease up on the heaviness of my application :)

  • That's one of the things I really admire in the Pixiwoo sisters, how they apply make up so precise & light handedly. It looks so effortless & elegant.

  • this is quite true! i've had a couple of MAC brushes for over 15 years because i take care of them! also what you said about good brushes make even the cheapest makeup go on well!

    thanks again! :)

  • I'm learning this the hard way! People really need to heed this advice!

Wayne, I remember a video you did quite some time ago showing the industrial strength cleanser you use on your brushes, which dries really fast. I cannot figure out how/where in the world I would by that. I'm still relying on a hydrating drugstore shampoo to clean my brushes, and it's NOT ideal - also, it doesn't disinfect them or kill bacteria. Any suggestions on where I can buy the same type of stuff you use? Thanks! xoxo

  • @jessical5683 I got my Isopropyl Alcohol (93%) at Walgreens. Just go to any Pharmacy/Drugstore and go to the pharmacy and ask them where they keep it. I think it's usually by first aid stuff. I LOVE IT!!! I wish I would've known about this yrs ago!!! I keep my brushes clean all the time now and it's so fast!

    Good Luck!

  • @emdelity Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it! I'm going out right away to find this stuff.....

  • you save me so much money

  • You are brilliant! Thanks for uploading xx

  • I love the very last brush u were holding. What brand is it or where can i get it from?

  • @allicando1 under wat name.?? All i was able to find was a fan page

  • great video. nice job,,,

  • omg..it's so embarrassing, but i'm guilty of both of the above! so shame!!! gonna take it easy n clean them more often..thank you!!!

  • thank you so much for all your tips, i love all your videos they are very helpful :)

  • Does this also apply to mineral foundation application? I mean I swirl my brush in the mineral powder and do have to put some pressure on?! :-)

  • I dont know why but i like looking at your face ha sorry if thats weird'

  • You'd think this would be common sense. Hmm I think I'll use alcohol to clean them now. I usually use dish soap bwcause of it's oil removing properties

  • Love your tutorials!!

  • Wayne u shuld make a facebook page where we can follow u daily an u can give us more tips and advice :)

  • @ccmurillo91 he has one!

  • wow, didn't know i was endangering my own brush! nice tips! =)

  • Thank you for my daily dose of your wisdom!

  • Eeeeeek i cringed when you manhandled those brushes! I truly thought i was hard on my brushes..... Seems i'm doing all the right things :D Woohoo

  • I'm definity not heavy handed with my mac brushes, but the only thing that concerns me is the products I use to wash them. I use Dawn soap when I do a deep clean, because its cheap and really cleans them, but scared its drying them out causing them to splay. Could this be true?

  • @classytips27 use olive oil with it it conditions the bristles its like conditioning for ur hair :)

  • I bow down to you Wayne.

  • can i ask u something do u own airbrush if yes plzzz show us some tips and tricks so we can learn more coz i find u always with good tips .thanks

  • I'm so excited. I've ordered the Nars brush you showed and I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

  • Thx for the info!

  • Thanks for the tips.

I heard ppl saying not to use alchool for brushes cleaning.

You already did a video explaining the way you clean them, but are you sure they'll not destroy with alchool?

  • thanks for the tip...i really have been destroying my brushes all along...lol...

  • Would you Please always get closer to us ? *wink*

  • Wow.... watching you makes me realize why my makeup never looks good. Thankyou!!!!

  • thanks

  • Love you and love my brushes.... I am OCD when it comes to my brushes. I found that the farther out I hold my brush (farthest from the bristles) the softer my application is. Just a hint at what helped me be more gentle =) Thank you for the info! ♥♥♥

  • well itz gd for the brushes and itz gd for ur own skin too...

  • I´m stop buying cheap brushes last year. I can only buy one brush every 4-5 months, but it makes a huge difference

  • I used the tips in this video this morning and very happy with my makeup. Looks smooth and natural. Thank you very much!

  • thats soo truth i have a soft hand but im goingq 2oo put more atention... thanks =)

  • Can you give a list of best (most expensive) to good (least expensive) brushes you would recommend,if you haven't already. How do you clean your brushes? I tried some of the brush cleaners out there, but always seems to leave some kind of residue on them. I have to clean them twice to get it right.

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom! :)

  • OH MYYY you just helped me save my expensive brushes!!! I never knew having heavy hands could ruin them. THANK YOU SUPER MUCH!

  • Great tip. I'm going to pay attention to how I use my brushes from now on. :)

  • Thank you x

  • can u use paintbrushes lol? cuz some of the paint brushes look the same as makeup brushes and even softer. XDDD and cheaper!

  • @dannobakprincess of course you can! if they don't feel too rough for your skin, go ahead an use them. the synthetic paintbrushes are great for applying eyeliner.

  • @dannobakprincess I have some paint brushes in my kit :-) I use some for eyeliner and applying eyeshadow. I also found the most beautiful brush for blending! There are some great ones out there that are perfect for makeup and more affordable then some makeup brush brands :-)

  • @dannobakprincess ooh gosh, i always wanted to know thiss! hahaha

  • @dannobakprincess yes, you can. they are made of the same materials

  • @dannobakprincess I'm going to be honest, I've used cheap, soft paint brushes i had lying around for eye makeup, they're life savers hahah
