  • Been wanting most my life. I'm 43, not getting any younger. My grandma raised, she's Samoan. She's 86 now. I want to take her with me to talk language and share family lineage. Who's the best and how can I get in touch? Do any come to States?

  • You cannot be a lady once you have tart art.

  • This reminds me of when I got mine done in Samoa. Most pain I have been in in my entire life, so worth it.

  • lol at ferrarom 1986

  • this is beautiful, where do i need to go and who do i need to talk to, to get something like this?

  • u samoan ...if not dont count on it

  • I know two palagis with the Malu, one done by Wilson Fitiao anfd the other done by Paulo Suluape. But a malu is of course nothing you just get cos it looks good. Both persons I know have a strong connection to Samoa.

  • great

  • Depends on where you are.. You in the states?

  • dhats dha same guy dhat came down to California and did malus fuh my cousins and uda gerls . hes tight(: aha , im gettn mine next year . loooce hellla pain ful wheni wuss watchn sum of my cousin dho itt . wooooooh . (: buh its all worth iit at dha end (:

  • do you know the name of this tattau artist? i need some one to do mine. thanks - :) alofas ..

  • uuum no i dont but i know hes in auckland. ill find out ok. cheers mate

  • Thanks to Suluape and other Tufuga's (artist) for keeping the ancient art of tatau alive in samoa...The Malu and Pe'a has so much meaning and power....Back in the days only Taupou's or village princess's could get the malu but now days a lot of girls are getting it for the looks which is nice.....but to get a malu and not fully understand the true meaning of it then you have a problem.....you have to earn the malu to wear one...give respect to our ancestors who passed this down to us....

  • ya it look like it dont hurt huh? ia aua te tangi oui loa li teine lalo? hahaha

  • painful yezzur Ive got a malu myself and i'd have to say its the knees that got me, but if youv'e got the support there you should be fine.

Put your all into it and whilst getting it done just think about it being over and done.

Your parents are right they say that once you start theres no going back. It's best to get it done in one go, instead of bit by bit everyday, its more painful that way

  • okaii

i am going to get my malu this year and my parentzs say if i start it they have to finish it.............

so is it painful and are there any later signzs of sickness should i be aware of and do yhu want to give me some tipzs..

  • that is absolutely beautiful. what i would do to get to NZ to acquire such hardcore traditional adornment. Do you have to be Samoan to get one?

  • well they will dog on you if you do get a samoan tat and your not samoan...its just a cultural thing samoans take pride in...so to see other people having it on can sometimes tick them off...but other are different

  • yeah... tis what i figured. unfortunately though, coming from mostly german, irish and scottish heritage, this leaves me with barely any idea of traditional "tribal" custom my great ancestors had. As a tattoo artist i have a great respect and love of the art and this is one of the most ancient long lived traditions in the world. I merely want something i'm so passionate about to be marked on me in a fashion that is so ancient. I wish i lived in a culture with such rich history and Pride!!

  • DAyyUUM i WAS SUPPOSt tO GEt My MALU ThiS PASt SUMMER BUt COiNCEDENtALY && SADLy My GRAMMA DiED.

SO i GUESS thAT WAS A SiGN ThAT i WASNt READy.

    && SURPRiSiNGLy.

    iM OKAy WiDD tHAT.

  • getting a malu is not something to flash or show off. It's not just any tattoo you can get. It's something you should fully understand before getting the malu. not only that but you should realize what it represents in are culture. also you as an individual should fully understand who you are as a samoan and know the fa'asamoan way!! good luck those individuals who will be getting there malu.

  • can i ask!!! do you hav a malu????

  • yes. why?

  • THE guy that is doing the your tattooo.......

  • Who is the Tufuga?

  • is this girl having it done with a soa? it should never be done alone

  • yes. always as you said.

  • oh yea...and i'm only 14 yrs old

  • all the best. hope you like it.

  • thankz..i hope the pain will be worth it in the end.. but i kinda know it will be.

  • oh hell yea! i'm getting my malu dis summer!

  • I cant get over how they get such clean work with a couple of sticks! lol It just doesnt seem possible, I HAVE to see one done in person one day.

  • lol thats a lot of hands on the poor lady. she must feel so violated, hahaha! im kidding, damn it just kidding. nice malu. k, i go back to my ava.

  • It's great to see the Samoan artists at work.

I'm glad the tradition and culture lives on.

    God bless yall.

  • malo lava le onosa'i! check out my vids of me & my sisters getting ours done recently in samoa - we had a jam session going... i reckon it's the only way to get a tatau - the music certainly helps with the pain...
